Let's figure out how to properly pot this nagami kumquat up, discuss the basic do's and don’ts, and even take a field trip to a hidden gem pot store in this video.

I eat them with salads and mostly fragment them into super salty kumquat. After the fresh kumquats are dried from washings. Put 1inch of salt at the bottom of a clean jar. Place the kumquat on top of the salt. And put another 1 inch salt on top of the kumquats. That’s how it’s done in traditional Chinese way. No need to add water just the salt don’t use it till after a year. It’s normal to see it turn watery, it’s because the salt sweating the juices from kumquats. It’s great for cold and sore throat. A Chinese housewife remedies. Put one salty kumquat in a 6 or 8 oz cup add little honey and thin slice of ginger (optional with the ginger) with hot water.

My kumquat of 8 years made sticky sap everywhere inside in the winter, but a grow light (boosting our windows) has nearly eliminated that issue -- not completely sapless, but the effect goes away in summer once it's outside again, zone 6. Also, more fruit has reached full ripeness as a bright deep orange instead of yellowish.

I love kumquats! We have one in a pot, but I need more kumquats so I took a cutting which rooted nicely and now I have it planted in the ground in front of the south side of the house. I'm hoping with kumquats being one of the most cold-hardy citrus that it will do well there. I also have two growing from seed already in the ground which survived the winter without much issue so it'll be interesting to see how the fruit turns out on those since of course it won't be exactly like the parent. And another reason I like kumquats is because they need so little work to grow - I haven't had any real pest issues and basically all I do is water and fertilize it.

I have a couple lemons grown from seed, a few thornless limes from hard cuttings, and one kumquat (I think nagami) that was shipped as a small tree. The limes are the only ones that have flowered. I feed a few times a year from spring to fall in zone 7. It goes from chilly to blistering heat in one day sometimes in Georgia. It's a gamble, I guess!

Maybe??....I don’t knowif I really did that though ---anyway it made my plants really really happy.
Obviously I had to rinse off in the sea weed that I might have got tangled in my hair in the sand that came home on my feet 😐 I didn’t mean to bring home hitchhikers in my car by mistake…
And I wasn’t sure what kind of effect it would have on my plants but I know they sell seaweed fertilizer and my planTs werent doing great so.... i tried it and it made em really really happy for once! uhhhh part 2??? haha I loved this vid and I have a kumquat tree myself. also can you include tips if u have any about getting the plant to grow instead of flower lmao, mine just wants to flower and does not get bigger. like should I pull the fruit and buds off? its a small plant about one foot tall and bushy. two main branches each with 3 smaller branches sticking up and they mirror each other like deer antlers its honestly really nice looking. but its stayed that size and hasn't put out new growth in a long time. Also how long does it take for your specific plant in your San Diego climate to go from the flower blooming to you being able to pick the fruit? much love Kevin sorry for the essay !! :)

How large will the kumquat grow in a pot and does it need to be pruned? Can it be permanently kept in a pot, how often does it need organic fertilizer?

Epic Gardening nice! I’m still on the fence about buying a blueberry and a raspberry plant. Just worried as we have super hot summers here on the south Texas coast.

@@themarkjr A couple of blueberry species are native down to around Houston - not sure where you are exactly or how the weather differs but you may want to see if you can find anyone local growing them. Rabbiteye (Vaccinium virgatum) and Highbush (Vaccinium corymbosum) bluberries are two commercially grown southern species that grow in hot areas. For raspberries Dorman Red is supposed to be a good heat, drought, and disease resistant variety, though I haven't personally grown them. And a nice layer of wood mulch will of course help regulate temperatures and retain moisture.

I have a kumquat that got rust, then I over did the neem oil, ruined it. Cut off all the dead leaves, now have only the main branch and off shoot (No leaves) the roots are great, i'm cutting off lots of suckers. QUESTION: shall I cut down those leaveless branches where nothing is happening?

Hey Keven, I have a kumquat tree also from fast growing trees. I’m stuck on knowing when to water it. The soil is made for citrus, I have it in a terracotta pot. Anyway, the soil never stays wet for long and dries out pretty fast. Anyway the soil always dries out faster than the root ball. I stick my finger down about 3 inches and the soil is dry but the root ball is damp. So should I water or hold off on watering until the root ball dries out faster??
