Hey everyone the reason i gave a lot of tips how to do the kick serve and not so many tips on the other 2 is because i believe the kick serve is important to have the right technique to ensure quality of the serve where on the other 2serves the quality is not as important but its much more important to have an idea what options your opponent has on those serves, hope you can use them and if you have any questions make sure to just ask :)
Hey man I love you am a fan from India i request you to make a similar video on receiving these same serves like flicks, what is the best receive and how do you continue ahead in the rally. Its cause I really struggle with receives being an amateur player. Thanks man also for these amazing vids
Hola Anders! if you can hear me, i have something genuine to say to you man! i stopped playing table tennis since 4 n half years ago. due to demotivation, stagnant improvement and bad tournaments. i have always endorsed and has been fascinated with this creative, unorthodox mix style of play. like xu Xin, koki niwa, Zhou qihao, Alexis lebrun, truls moregard, etc. but its because of you! and watching your gameplay, of course your UA-cam channel too, that i have cleaned my old bat and started playing all over again. and man i have been flying since! THANK YOU! THANK YOU VERY MUCH! you have no idea how much influence you have with your playstyle. its so refreshing and fun to watch. players like you make the game fun and broaden the horizon. unlike the robotic conventional mainstream only attacking playing style. your slices, chopblocks, seatbelt counters, inverted backhands and the sweet sweet strawberries are breathtaking to watch. KEEP INSPIRING CHAMP!
Great stuff, Anders! Very useful, short and precise. I appreciate a lot your work, and you are also a humble guy with a lot of talent. I really like your game system where creativity is the key. Cheers from Italy.
I actually try to mix in empty serves with my other ones and it usually throws the opponent off allowing me to attack! So you are totally right. I'll have to practice the kicker serve, I've seen people use it and always wanted to learn it. Thanks for this awesome video!
Can you do a video just on footwork. Personally i feel that after you can perform the technique this is the next step. If im not able to attack the ball from the right place technique means nothing. For me as an older player I'd love a solution to bring this together. Great videos as always i feel privileged to watch a world beater share so much
The trick with the empty/floater serve is to make your opponent think it has spin (doesn't matter which one). To do that takes practice, generally you make flat contact with the ball and then pretend to put the spin on the ball. This can be well hidden in all serves, but for me I've best utilized it using the reverse pendulum and backhand backspin serve. Of course with reverse pendulum you get better options with kicker serve which can also be hidden well so you get more options. But I've had more success with the backhand backspin serve. Perhaps it is time to practice reverse pendulum serve.
I’m doing a few things that always help me in matches: When I plan a fast long serve, I prepare to the service slower I mix up the flat serve and with a spinny one When opponent had a bad receive of the 1st serve I assume he’s going to try and compensate. So the next service looks similar but uses an opposite spin. Works at an amateur level for sure
thank you anders for anothr great series of video❤ please more😅, i would love to hear your take on modern tactics and how to overcome them😊 maybe in the next series ❤
There are many videos on various serves but hardly any good ones on receiving serves. Could you please make a couple of videos on serve receives against popular serves? Thank you!
Thanks Anders. I've really enjoyed the last few videos you've put out. Question for you: What do you think of the current state of service legality in professional play? It seems like refs barely ever call it. Would something like the EagleEye system solve the problem? Do pros even care about hidden serve or are they so good at reading the ball that it doesn't bother them?

Nice video, I do all of these serves already however instead of the pendulum kick serve i most of the time rather do it with slight underspin (like going equally fast but instead of pulling up i pull down a bit) and it makes it hard for the opponent to recieve coz just blocking/countering the ball usually makes it go into the net right away, what do u think of it?
It might be tricky to give exact answer but What should be the direction of the kick or empty serve in terms of percentage? pivot or wide forhand or backhand ? btw nice video, would love more videos about service return
Hi, Anders, can you make a tutorial for left handed players about tactics. Many of us are left handed and for advanced-pro levels are few leftie tutorial videos. Ex. Where to serve , push, open up..(ok i know its coplex.. but some basic ideas) thx for your recent videos.
In the 80‘s we were punished for long serves, we were also forced to focus on spinny serves. I can hardly adopt to the big ball and all the youth players playing with almost no spin. What I really, really hate in „New-Pong“ - is empty serves 😢 Should be easy, but it’s not (for me) Go on, tell‘em how to destroy those old dudes like me
Actually both. For the kick serve You wanna take it as high as possible to shoot it directly into the table. Also you wanna touch the ball as near your fingers as possible. Then there is more racket surface to create spin
Didn't try yet but I already use the empty no spin serve, and if the opponent pushes, it's an easy attack on third ball. Mixing it with the other ones works wonders.
I always use the empty serve as a trick serve every now and then after let’s say, three time serving with backspin That little problem with the serve That it’s easy to receive if it was absorbed by the opponent Because the ball has almost no spin at all , the opponents an not only receive it aggressively, but also wherever he wants on the table due to the lack of spin
Hi Anders, thank you so much for the videos! I have a question about "using your wrist" on the serve. I have heard advice that you don't actively flick your wrist, but rather it acts as a whip by moving your forearm back and foreward. When you serve, are you actively flicking your wrist, or is it just relaxed and moves naturally? Thanks :)
I’m left handed too and 75% of the times when I do an empty serve low and half long I’m always ready to pivot and play on wide forehand of right handed , in case they reach the ball (not easy) also with a topspin i stay in pivot position and I topspin that ball easily on Their backhand cos is too wide to recover
Im left handed like you, what are the best types of serve for an easy 3rd ball attack? Sometimes I just want to make a powerfull attack to end the point but the ball don't go where I want and for that reason I just push.
They are very very basic. and how you do them ( regarding the technique and quality ) is not so important. its more that you have a plan for the recieve that comes back after :)

I couldn't agree more, nowadays, serve is not about the amount of spin, but the arc, deception and placement.
yes.. most players learned spin.. its about giving them less time to make a decision.. it makes opponents stressed = worse quality shots
Just saw you use the short side-topspin serve to the VH against Daniel Habesohn in the 5th game in Busan. Worked perfectly, I would say 🙂
