FYI you didn't actually need to use those two red fairies in order to get across. It is sufficient to just jump across at full speed, which makes it across the final gap.
As much as 2:47 was a bit silly, I'd say it's not entirely unfair because the game did give you minute hints that something was fishy about that fairy. Being green and stationary instead of red and moving are pretty big ones, in my opinion. Of course, being on Lunatic doesn't help either.
