Manitowoc Minute host Charlie Berens teaches you how to make a casserole and/or hotdish with the help of his mom. Make sure you have hamburger (or meat from the meat raffle), corn, green beans, and don't forget the tater tots. Also don't forget the beer. You'll need a couple two tree. #KeepErMovin

This guy is impossible to not like.
@GamesterX I think you may be right; as a native Illinoisan we used to vacation in Wisconsin at the Dells.
@It's Okay Funnily enough back in the 80s as an undergrad at the University of Illinois, I would often see the football players wearing "Muck Fichigan" tshirts.
GamesterX F@CK YOU GO CHARLIE
I just liked this comment because I didn’t want the likes to remain on 666 👍
Yeah but imagine he was her only child!
I adore all these community PSA recipe videos he's been making during the pandemic. It's like watching a Captain America of the Midwest, he fills me with such hope (and beer)
EpicalHappenings Thanks to his videos I did have a drink while I filled out the census data online. It wasn’t a brandy old fashioned though.
Captain America of the Midwest😂😂 I love this
I could cook this the Charlie way.
One of six girls. We grew up on casseroles, stews, chili, soups, big pots of spaghetti, homemade bread.....basically homemade everything.
His mom is funny!
Roast beef on Sunday.
Leftovers on Monday. But with homemade dinner rolls.
Roast beef sandwiches on Tues lunch. Chicken for dinner.
What's left of the roast beef and chicken...Casserole...NO RAISINS MOM!
Spaghetti Thursday and Friday.
Sat??? Homemade Pizza or Mexican. Hmmm Good!
Summer was good/bad. Lots of gardening...But lots of fresh veggies!
My mom spent all her money on beer (and something she smokes out of a pipe idk what it was, I was 7 at the time) so we had Hamburger Helper on good days. She did sell Enchiladas that I am told were delicious though me and my sisters wouldn't know she never made them for us.
@@lqg4395 😢
Yes homemade cassaroles or stovetop pots of food that other people went to the store and bought that ended in helper.
@@lqg4395 omg thats aweful. You never stole any from her while she made them before she sold them or was that while you were at school?
My guy this is what good humor is. Quality entertainment.
Got ice cream
Not sure who was funnier, Charlie or his Mother! I love how she deals with him!!!!!!!
"mom, are you going to be part of the problem, or part of the solution" was great!
I have never laughed so hard at his videos before
This is the only person who has ever made me homesick for the midwest.
Go, Packers!
no go vikings
@@ps92809 how many SB ring :)
Charlie...
1) Your mom is a saint for dealing with you
2) more cheese.. you should be ashamed of yourself
3) I hate canned green beans too
4) I gave blood 3 weeks ago. PRO-TIP: give Power Red (it takes about 30 minutes longer but you don't have to donate again for 4 months.
Thanks for the laughs. I'd eat it.
Just when i thought this guy couldn't become more of a dreamboat. He's in the kitchen.
Heck yes
In one video he even has a puppy that he adopted!
"I was mass produced." Lol.
Mom said watch your language. So watch your language.
His Mom is Captain America.
After 12 kids, "Mom" must be tired. Very tired.
Barbara T 12 kids .... mass produced , so as you may have heard at mass on Sunday .... keep er moving
I remember the first time I was told that. I was like in my head, "what, you WANT me to WATCH my language WITH MY OWN EYES? 🙄" I knew what they meant.
Charlie, every time you post a quarantine kitchen video, my boyfriend says "I would watch a regular series of Charlie in the kitchen." What I'm saying is there's at least one Midwest boi who wants more cooking content
I love love this ! The fact his mother knows him so well is hilarious.. she’s not getting one put over on her !
Charlie, highlight of the video, when your mom said "oh my gosh". You should do a video to see how many times you can get her to say that.
Funnier than any late night tv host without their staff of writers, producers, etc. Charlie proves he’s da man.
OMG we need to see more of Mom!
Ground moose in a casserole is a whole new level of yum!
Even from Illinois I can see you didn’t bake that casserole. The cheese isn’t melted. Thanks for the laughs and say hi to your folks for me.
Your relationship with your mom is absolutely adorable
Thanks for plugging the Red Cross. They do good work, especially now.
You're keepin us movin in these hard times Charlie, thanks for that. Tell your folks I says hi!
man if you think theese are hard times .....
@@williamcutrell7456 *Man, *these
LOVE the clips with Charlie’s Mom! The oven buzzer ….. 😂
God bless your mom! She is a very strong lady 💕
Being a Bears fan raised in SW Michigan, I have a real Love/Hate appreciation for this video. Keep up the good work 👍 Go Bears!!!
I like how he disses Minnesotans and then proceeds to say "hotdish" for the rest of the video. #Skol
Yah...but what I dont understand...once you put dat "hot dish" on da table...IT AIN'T HOT NO MORE!
In Wisconsin it is a hotdish only when you take it into church. It is a casserole when you eat it at home.
@@rrider3946 Never heard da term hotdish on Wisconsin's "East Coast". But probably on Wisconsin's "West Coast"..near Minnesota...dat's da way its used!
@@badguy1481 I'm in Madison no one says Hotdish here that I've heard. Even my family in Rhinelander/ Eagle River says Casserole.
@@MrZane777 looks like your family is wrong
I find your lack of cheese disturbing.
As a wisconsinite it is indeed very disappointing.
I laughed too much at that.
More CHEESE!! wth
In MN we don't put cheese on it. We somehow believe that not everything has to have cheese, you can actually eat some things without it. I had a friend from WI that had to have cheese on everything. We went to a Greek restaurant and she ordered a gyro with cheese. I wanted to crawl under the table.
Just comedy- I don't think he actually cooked it- cheese wasn't melted after 1 1/2 hours
I worked at a super target in woodbury minnesota over the holidays. We sold thousands of tater tot hot dish ingredients during thanksgiving. They are actually a great place to work with awesome managers who have worked there way up.
Bless your mother and father raising 12 children. They must be parental gods
I have a feeling Charlie bears the bulk of responsibility for that frown line between Mama Berens’ eyebrows.
Just my opinion, but I don't think you used nearly enough cheese
Yup
I don’t think there is enough cheese in the world to be enough
There is no such thing as too much cheese.
LMAO!! I said the same thing!! I'd put about a 1lb or so on that thing!!
The Wisconsin Motto: When in doubt, add cheese.
You put the word “fun” in Covid-19. The best one yet. Bless your mom.
"...beware of your mother's attempt to kill you with green beans."
When I tell you that I DIED, I mean I laughed for a good 3 minutes straight 😂😂😂
Plot twist, it'd be me killing my mom with the green beans
“I don’t see the green beans”
“Ahhh you better grab your readers”
Love it
I'm so glad I stumbled across Charlie's channel a couple months ago. He hasn't made a video I didn't laugh *with* yet. Thanks for your service, Mr. Berens.
Same. It was his Disney World video while I was in Florida😂
“I’m one of 12 children, I was mass produced.” 🤣😆🤣
Charlie is addictive. Love the regional comedy!
I like the one he does regarding whether one says pop, soda, or Coke.
He gets that skit right; but as a person from Southwest Georgia (USA), I’d like to add that many of us down here for sure grew up (is grew up correct grammar?- idk) saying Coke to mean any sort of soda. Now just know that as a full grown adult, there’s no way a self-respecting southerner is ever going to just call it “pop”.
I live in Milwaukee and this is SO true. The stereo tyres are so hilarious!
Tuna Surprise, the only surprise is the noodles, depends on what the hoarders left on the shelf !
My college buddy and I shared an apartment together after graduation. He taught me how to make tuna surprise with potato chips on top instead of tater tots. I never really was a fan of tuna fish, but I survived to tell about this.
My mom used to tell us it was ‘chicken’ casserole and hide the tuna cans at the very bottom of outdoor garbage to hide reality of label and smell. 😁. But it was topped with either box of corn flake crumbs or can of Durkee fried onions, never tried tater tots.
Hahaha!
Fun fact: the term hotdish in the midwest was coined during the great depression. People used whatever meat, cheese, starch- basically whatever was in the fridge- then baked it all together in a dish, so that whatever they had in their kitchens, they could at least have a hot dish to eat.
Very good way to use up leftovers.
@@kimberlychodur3508My youngest bro & his kids REFUSE to eat ANY leftovers. NONE. As well as most veggies and fruit. Meats, though? Break out the BBQ!
@@Deborita777 ya unfortunately there are people that refuse to eat leftovers.
@@kimberlychodur3508Yeah they’re called “overly privileged”
@@TokyoBlue587 that’s for sure.
Here's one for ya that will be edible..
1 bag frozen cubed potatoes
1 large family size can cream of 🐔 chicken
1 small diced onion
4 cups shredded cheddar..of any kind you like
1 16oz container of sour cream
1 stick of butter melted
- put the potatoes in a cake pan
-top with all the other ingredients
-add some salt and pepper
-bake at 375 til a nice brown and potatoes done
-serve with beer and brats, burgers or fish on the side if desired
Love your videos!💚💛💚🧀
Sounds intriguing
Hahaha! Mrs. Berens, you did the best you could with this one (Charlie). You can’t win ‘em all. 😂
Charlie, you're such a gem when we're living in a sea of negativity and fear! Much appreciated!
Charlie, I couldn't get thru this quarantine without ya! You're the best!!!!!
People outside the Midwest don’t make casseroles?!! I can’t imagine being American without making a casserole. 🇺🇸
I make casseroles and I'm Australian... but I don't make them like that
We eat them in the southwest. Oftentimes made in ethnic dish like enchilada caserole.
Never lived in the Midwest and I grew up eating casseroles. Still do.
Has the Midwest even met the South!?
We're long lost cousins to each other!
@@TheOReport1994 do you guys have farmers and like a bunch of wheat or corn fields
We love you so much Charlie! God bless you sir!
LOL! I adore your Mother!
Love this channel! Thank you for bringing awareness during this Covid pandemic. Healthcare workers are grateful! ❤
“1 of 12 kids, I was mass produce.” I have never heard this. I am 1 of 12 too. This is great.
Charlie, you’re the best! Thanks for always making me smile! I love when you cook with your Mom & your Grandma! Bless your Mom for having 12!❤️🎈👏🏻👀👏🏻🇨🇦🎈💥✨💫🎊💥🎉🎈❤️
been through Wisconson once. CHEESE CURDS!!!!! Instant addiction. 🤠 P.S. When his lady is done with him; I want to ADOPT! 😍
Alright Charlie, here's the deal. I'm a Southside Chicago girl, born and raised. I'm a die hard Bears fan. I'm a lifelong vegetarian who finds hunting and fishing morally repulsive. And I fucking love you and your videos.
This gives me hope for humanity. 👏👌😂
Moms “oh my gosh” is everything!
Lol im dying when he said “people argue over which is right and who’s a vikings fan”😂 as a Minnesotan this is so true.
“Get your readers” 🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is hysterical! Almost forwarded this to my wife, but I remembered she is from Chicago 😅
Like Charlie says, “F🍺🍺K da Bears”. Too funny to not laugh at it.
Funny on so many levels
Define "dumped" LOL keep em coming Charlie
Your mama was great!!! I would totally watch more with her.
Thank you it looks delicious and Hi to your beautiful Mom !
Yes the first step in making hotdish is crack open a beer. And mushroom soup is required!!
I once made a casserole with cream of chicken soup. It was transformative!
Cream of something is a must 😉
If allergic to mushrooms, use cream of chicken or cream of celery. It all works out in the end.
I know it may be Sacrilidge, but, accidentally spilling a good portion of beer (about 1/4...ish) into the mushroom soup makes the dish so much better! Wine works too, but Im rather careful with my glass.....🍷
OMG, now I know where you got your sense of humor! You should put your Mom on more often!🤣
Dude I’m from Wisconsin and was raised Catholic… and I’ve never seen anyone eat this. This seems like something I’d make when I was drunk and then not eat it.
Your Mom is a hoot. More cheese there dude to be a real Wisconsin hot dish. Ladysmith says keep her moving.
I just made Tator Tot HOTDISH tonight 😂😂😂 Go Vikings! 😅
Grew up in Milwaukee... Dad from Eau Claire...Always Tatertot hotdish....Now, Tuna casserole... that’s somethin else...
Keep’er movin...
Pure gold here! Good job Charlie. And Go Packers and !!!! Da Bears
First Letterkenny, now Charlie Berens. God is good.
I just had my first hot dish/casserole because of this video. It was amazing! Also, sorry Charlie, but the green beans were amazing!
I have been binge watching this channel & You Betcha, & as I grew up in Chicago & Decatur, IL it does my soul good to hear the Midwestern Accent again, to be reminded of our simple & hobest values so much so, Charlie, I will happily forgive you for your shirt in this video.
I just wish my wife could get enough time off so we could go back to Chicago for Thanksgiving this year.
#Bearsrule&packersdrool
Cheers as the oven is still going off 🤣🤣
love you charlie!
You look so much like your mom! Btw, love casseroles. Especially, tuna noodle casserole! Also, as someone who has family from Chicago love the t-shirt. I appreciate the humor!
My ol’lady thanks you Charlie.
I made her that hot dish with your help. Keep’er movin with those cooking videos. Next beef pot roast with a beer two or tree while it cooks!
Your mom is great!
As others note, you didn't cook that, the cheese didn't melt. Your mom's a good lady, and a great sport. Love your work!
Go learn to cook.
TEAM CASSEROLE!
I'm on team casserole and I live in WI (the southeastern part of it).
100% correct on canned green beans. Now frozen or fresh is another story.
Love your mom!!!
I'm Minnesotan and am proud of Hotdish (despite some of the recipes being nasty).
Love your show, love the midwest and all its contents, ESPECIALLY all the GREAT LAKES!!! So beautiful! So amazing! Like the Pacific Ocean, but no surf or sharks. However, I am moving to Maine next :D Lived in CA, the SW, The Rockies as well... Time to see how the other half lives while enjoying the deep forest, the East Coast, and lobstah!
Super funny but also super compassionate!
Loved Mom's "oh my gosh" at 2:29
“ohmigosh just put your tater tots neatly on top of the dish” love you momma Berens!
A true Wisconsin/Iowa recipe; cream of mushroom soup or ketchup in EVERYTHING!
Your mom is awesome!
Thanks for the laughs! I hope your mom will do more videos with you! She's awesome!
This is especially fun to watch considering i'm somewhat new to casseroles myself
Its so crazy!! that casserole was so much easier than the 2 i made for thanksgiving
Tip...fry up some mushrooms for a few minutes and mix em in before adding the tots and cheese 😉
Step one: “Crack a beer!” Outstanding!! 🍺
Tell your mom we says good job on her cameo appearance der guy.
Yes she's awesome! ,
You mom seems awesome. Tell her I says hi :)
Love you Charlie!
Very entertaining, I lost my brother cos Covid yesterday and your videos really help me to be happier.
So sorry for your loss!
Thank you for making us laugh...
Born and raised in north central Wisconsin and I've used both casserole and hotdish. Some things are casseroles, like green bean casserole, and some things are hotdishes, like hamburger hotdish.
I think the only difference between the two in my experience is the ratio of starches (potatoes or noodles) to binding liquids (Cream of _____ soup).
Hot dish is semi solid, casserole spreads out a bit on the plate.
Mom!!! You have an awesome son. But then again, you already know that🥰
Thanks for da cooking tips Charlie! After watching you I always feel smarter. 😂
I'm going to start using my jacket for an oven mitt. Who knew?
Little tip: I got a bunch of complaints when I used my socks don cha'know! 😂
its a hot dish! from Minnesota.
I like the cast iron skillet idea
Well, I know what I'm having for dinner tonight now! (and da rest of da week). Tanks da Charlie! 😁 (and da Charlie's mom!) Also, who else here couldn't figure out which one was Charlie in da photo? 🤔
As a single guy, the "oh I'll just use my coat" is relatable. My sleeves tend to be my oven mitta
Nice video Charlie Berens
