Manitowoc Minute host Charlie Berens teaches you how to make a Wisconsin style brandy old fashioned sour (although sweet and press are also options). And while you're drinking it you can fill out your 2020 Census at 2020census.gov. Ingredients for the brandy old fashioned include oranges, cherries, sugar, bitters, ice and love. And by love I mean brandy...It's the perfect Midwest concoction for supper clubs, weddings and/or funerals. - Комедії
Please make a whole series from your kitchen and invite the Target Dads to share their recipes as well.
I second that and think it deserves another drink! Real WI old fashions are a beautiful thing.

YES

My cousins and I learned how to make brandy old fashioned in 3rd grade one summer with my grandma, gotta love WI
Charlie: *Sticks fingers in cherry jar*
Also Charlie: "And by the way we have a virus goin' around so remember to disinfect your hammer"
I was born and raised in WI, and I can tell all you non-Wisconsinites, this is 110% legit. Try it. This guy is a treasure. Thanks for sharing the WI love with the world, Charlie!
Now this is the kinda public service announcement we need!
As a Census worker, this makes me happy.
Creack open yer census
I struggle making mac n cheese sometimes, but after watching this I feel pretty confident I can now start my profession as a bar tender.

Right?! 😂
“If anyone tells you to use whiskey in an old fashioned tell them to go back to Illinois” 😂😂Keep’er Movin
I live in Illinois. I only drink old fashions with brandy. One of my favorite dining establishments uses only Korbel brandy.
By the way, I've been to the Korbel winery in California. According to the tour guide, 50% of Korbel's brandy production is shipped to Wisconsin.
@tony jaimes Ha Ha! Too true!😂
I remember reading somewhere that the Korbel brothers introduced their brandy at the Columbian Exhibition of 1893 in Chicago. Wisconsin visitors though it would be great in an old fashion. The rest is history.
Still the biggest brandy consumption. Only in wiconsin.
Cathy Wagner Are you drunk?
This is the most accurate "How to Make" Wisconsin (Brandy) Old Fashioned on UA-cam. Thank you Charlie!
I want to second this thank you... Brings back memories of drinking Brandy Old-Fashions back in High School at Cherry Lanes in Sturgeon Bay (back in the days when 18 was the legal drinking age)
@@samshogrenmpa.leadassoc.5590 the best old Fashioned of my life was in Algoma!
As someone from Green Bay, this is accurate.
Is it normal to stirr in the floater as well?
Not only the ingredients but the process is solid
I need to remember the hammer next time I make a drink. What a simple and elegant solution.
Just make sure you don't have rust on it. Keep er movin

We don't have an ice maker and the bags of ice end up as one singular block after a week. Personally, I've chosen a socket wrench.
I've been known to use the back of the ice cream scoop. 💁🏼♀️
Sanitizes hammer to avoid sickness, also sticks fingers straight into cherry jar
Nah...da cherry juice kills everything!
Cripes alfrighty you just talked me into filling out da census.
I thought it was cripes almighty. I have been saying it wrong!
This was one of the most important videos of this entire damn Pandemic! You sir are doing the lords work.
Thanks for tutorializing the importance of not only filling out your census but also the importance of doing it right.
Census: 8 min
Old fashions consumed: 4
Bedtime: early
Use a beer stein-geeze
Tim Buktu 😝
This is going straight to my "Real Life Important Stuff" playlist.
This morning I threw out my census. Now I'm gonna have to dig it out and make a Brandy Old Fashioned.
If you don't fill it out, you'll get a numerator at your door.
I hope you're joking. I'm sure you are but for those who think it is OK to throw it out... remember we have a pandemic right now and the last thing we need is for older people to be going door-to-door to get information from you so they can turn it into the census but that's what's going to happen and that's some scary shit.
@@sweetboo1022 I was. I did it on line a day earlier. I just wanted an excuse to have an fashioned

I'm a health care worker and a country gal from waaaay back. When you said that, I laughed so hard, I think I might have spavined myself!
Thank you SOOO much for making these videos! A lot of us could use all of the funny stuff we can find! :-)
O my gosh!! I asked my husband to make this Charlies’s way and I barely made it to the supper table!!
😂🤣
Wisco pouring: "two, tree, let's make it four fingers" 😆
At the last family Christmas party I got yelled at by my wife's family for using a jigger while making drinks. Then my wife yelled at me when I switched to a straight pour.
You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar.
Squirt is by far the best floater
Plz keep these up after quarantine ends. More young adults need this message w this humor
Where was this video yesterday when I filled out my census? Oh well! I'm still gonna go make that brandy ol fashioned! Lightbulb it's my reward for doing it yesterday! Thanks Charlie!
Erinne Fessler
Gotta have two der guy!
My first thought "who makes an old fashioned with brandy". Then you answered my question, I'm from Illinois. LOL
Yeah if you live in Wisconsin you drink brandy instead of whiskey
Being from Wisconsin, I knew it would be Korbel brandy.
Thanks Charlie, we need your humor these days! Fantastic as always
I lost my toothpicks in the junk drawer to, turns out it was so full they fell down in the cupboard behind the pots and pans
Well, at least you found them,,,,,, eventually. 😉
I ADORE YOU Charlie Berens!!! You are a WI STATE TREASURE!
Damn it Charlie I’m from Illinois and a Bears fan and I reluctantly like your videos. Actually they’re great. Fell down a rabbit hole while in quarantine. Thanks for the content keeper movin eh?
Nah man, I don't know. When I was a bartender in Milwaukee I had a few customers that wanted me to muddle the shit outta their old fashioneds. I muddled the rinds and people came back for more. But then again after a couple old fashioneds people are buzzed enough maybe they can't taste the bitter as much 😂
Ya wanna know what'll really upset people? (Or at least upset me), I once had some crazy person order a whiskey old fashioned with club soda. Club soda. If ya don't want the sugar don't order an old fashioned man, why don't you order a bud light like all the other business majors buddy, it's basically club soda.
Dat crazy person was probably a FIB. I thought, wit dis virus, we don't allow dem to cross da border?
This is better than the real cooking channels😆😁.
I feel sorry for all those folks who stocked up on TP instead of booze. Alcohol kills the virus. 60%, I think. So a couple two 'tree brandy old fashioneds should easily get you to that 60% mark.
60% of the time it works 100% of the time
WHO recommends limiting alcohol consumption though, since it is likely to make people behave carelessly and therefore more likely to contract the virus
@@arjunsatheesh7609 who cares
I think it’s 80 proof kills it, but I like your thinking
It's about 70% so 140 proof
Made my day Charlie...Keep er movin
Thanks for the upload and a reminder how important the census is!
Pretty fancy. I'm from Iowa. Our "Old Fashions" come in a brown bottle in a pack of 6.
Grew up in WI and didn't realized how much I missed it until I saw this! It wreaks WISCONSIN! Made and drank many an Old Fashion 'back then,' but never had all the nuance that this recipe had. Laughed so hard...................thx.
Wow, tanks der so much ja! We really needed this right now.
Love you so much, Charlie. Thanks for helping us through this
Great video man. I'm happy you easily pointed out how important the census is
Makin' changes to my grocery list right now. Keepin' 'er movin'!
Thanks Charlie! We need some levity in these challenging times! And I always love a great Old Fashioned myself!
OMG! I LUV U! smiles and giggles, allways!!!
Hey, Charlie. Really appreciate you doing the vids during COVID-19, and appropriate content. Good job and good messages.
This is the greatest video I've seen in the last 10 years! Thank you!!!
Can't wait for the sequel where you make a bloody mary with bacon, cheese, hot stick, etc.
🤣
1) Thank you for reminding everyone why the census is important.
2) This is the best Wisconsinite video yet! 💚🧀💚
Did you notice his cutting board?
Your videos make me laugh so much! Thanks for adding some nice light to my day!
This is by far one of my favorites. Cheers from Madison!
Honestly one of the best videos ive ever seen ... first time watcher
god bless ya, your videos are exactly what I needed to get thru quarantine
Always good to see someone promoting Jolly Good from Random Lake!!
My all time favorite!
You could do a video on Hell freezing over because all the bars in Wisconsin are closed.
Not in our basements sufficient with fully stocked bars!
That has to be a first in history.
I deliver beer for work and I have a bar route, so it's definitely weird 😂 The amount of volume going into grocery stores and Kwik Trips is insane 😂
Hello from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada! I love your videos! They are an absolute hoot!!
I'm crying here... you are a national treasure! I recently discovered the Wisco-N-sin old fashioned mix when traveling thru the great white north.... sipping on a few and I remember my Bestefar(Grandfathers) teaching me how to make them for him... is 8years old to early to learn how to pour a proper Old Fashioned or Manhattan? He didn't seem to think so. Skol, and Go Bears!
Here I was trying to show my girlfriend how to make one and I come across this EPIC video.
Madison, WI - Subscribed!!
As soon as I finish my cereal and toast I am going to have an old fashion. Keep er movin.
Thanks! I made one of these for my husband and me during quarantine. Delicious! WV
OMG! This is awesome...I work for the Census Bureau and really appreciate the plug. Also, you are funny and charming. Thanks for the video...made me smile.
Your videos are the best.
Cripes all frighty! Now I'm from Illinois, so when I thank you for showing me how to make a proper old fashioned, I really mean it. Leave the whiskey on the shelf, grab some brandy in a mouthwash container, "a buck knife, a hammer... and some other things" and get to census-ing! I want me some smooth roads! keep er movin!
I feel seen! Finally a video showing the right way to make an old fashioned!
LOVE the commentary!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for tossing the census thing in there, a lot of people kinda don’t get it’s importance
This was awesome! Bravo Charlie
Perfect. Just perfect.
Finally. A really practical video.
Excellent. Will fill out my form today.
I’m over here in Stillwater and just got my census form this week. Have some Christian Brothers in the liquor cabinet and will give this a try. Thanks for the advice!
Omg junk drawer had me laughing 😀😂

So relatable
You are a public service. Thank you for your wonderful videos! That’s just how my mom liked her brandy old fashioned.
Best instructional video of my life 👍👍
Charlie is so dreamy
Nice work Charlie. Way to keep it instructional.
Jolly Good!! Yes, please.
My gosh, that was funny!! Thanks, Charlie!!!
This is brilliant. Laughing for days. Thank you.
Please tell us how to make a brandy Manhattan.
I was taught by my dad 40 years ago but would love your take on it!
I think this is the most authentic recipe I’ve seen.
I’m from Virginia living in Illinois, but I just watched this while drinking a Leinie’s. I feel like I need to go further north. 😂
Started today as a nervous wreck coz I am low on groceries and india is on lockdown till 14 april.
Few minutes of you and I am out of the anxiety whirlwind...
Thank the lord for u ,this video and the youtube algorithm
Keep her movin
At last I know what an old-fashioned is. Thanks, Charlie. (already did the census)
Woot! Jolly Good!!! Heck yes!
That was fantastic
I am so here for a series of Wisconsin cooking videos.
I needed this. Thank you.
I love watching you doing .... whatever - even if I understand only half of what you are saying.❤
So glad i found you and your friends at this tme.you make me giggle. So funny! Thank you😂
Hey there guy, when this covid 6 ft thing blows over, I hope you target husbands can once again have good times and share that beef jerky!
Best damn instructional video of my life that’s for sure. Go Packers!
In Maine we add a little lobster for garnish. Then we pair it with a lobster roll. You can also substitute the hammer with a snow shovel on the really cold days.
Man, I hardly ever drink but I love watching your tutorials on making drinks. This looks very tasty actually. Your routine actually sounds like me procrastinating, only difference is that you actually filled the census. I'm like "Oh, yeah. I gotta do that thing. Let me just make some coffee and something to eat with it." And don't actually do the thing hahahaha.
A genuine Wisconsin old fashioned is made with 50/50 soda.
Yes! Or sometimes I even use Squirt!
Good old Grafs
Josh, seems like a pretty straight-laced attitude ya got there about your soda and the proportions. Are you from Oshkosh or something? ;-)
My family is mostly from Marshfield. Some form Osh, Appleton, Rhinelander and Lake Geneva too. Cheers!
I thought jolly good was a great memory, 50/50 is another good one, thanks!
I ordered an old fashioned at a wedding once, and the bartender had no idea what I was talking about- I was just a little surprised.
I ordered one in Superior Wisconsin at an old folks bar, and the young chick behind the bar had no clue how to make it 😂
The junk draw segment was too gosh darn elatable😂
Grandma's Brandy Box? Now that's a treasure!
Excellent double-tutorial
Laughed so hard all the way through it. Especially when you got out the paper clip!
Fleet Farm gift cart! That's a keeper.
