Was so sure that this will be the case, indeed you are making lots more money, but sometimes when you are a bit far in game and have wars and all of that and you get the chance to catch lots of prisoners from the fights, you don't have time to look for a village to sell them too, so you kinda sell them to the the towns. But for starting is a good strategy to do some cash, but for me it feels a little cheesy. Another good money maker for start is buying hogs in a town with small prices or get them from villages, and butcher them, sell the meat and the hide, and you'll make far more than you paid for them.
Yea I agree it’s mostly valuable early game and mid game when your fighting wars you should already have enough in the bank anyways 😂

You indeed make a lot more money, BUT that quest GIVES YOU POINTS to the CRUELTY trait, and a lot of players don't want that trait.
so selling them to a tavern is often a better choice for players who favor positive traits(most players unless your doing a evil campaign)
there is a saying i like to compare to this
