Pizza hut was actually a hut outside the campus of a university in Kansas. Not sure of it's KU or K State, but that is the origin.

Pizza Hut and White Castle are from the same city. They must have had a thing for naming food joints after buildings.

Thanks for the chuckle today. Sometimes we all make errors, just some are funnier than others. You haven't had pizza unless you've had it from Pizza Hut. LOL

lol This is so funny and I have to sometimes still decipher words that my inlaws say in their broken english here in Canada. I love them so much and their cute accents♥️
Going to Poland for first time this May! To Gdansk area (+ Sopot, Tczew, Malbork etc). First time for my husband to return since he immigrated to Canada 30 yrs ago🥹It will be super special and meaningful for us. Cant wait!!

I'm half Polish half English, growing up in the UK we used to LOVE going to Pizza Hut! Lol, I can see where the confusion came from. Learning Polish my head really struggles to remember the words that are the same as the English, I think my brain just leaves them in the English department. If by some chance I do remember them I feel really embarrassed pronouncing them in the Polish way, like I'm never sure if I'm doing it correctly - like internet, omelette, pub etc. 🤍❤

Great video - yes this is a bit of comfort food for me when I am missing Canada. Back home we have the "Canadian Pizza" at Pizza Hut - regular crust pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms and crumbled bacon - Yum yum. Also the "Hawaiian" pizza was invented at a small pizzeria in Chatham, Ontario - Yum yum also. Now I'm hungry - off to Pizza Hut.

It didn't touch me because Dave z Ameryki explained it some time ago but I must admit that I also once thought it was a hat. This logo looks like a hat. Whoever designed it did it on purpose to confuse non-English people and he's probably laughing about it to this day 🤗🤭😅

Love it! To be honest I didn't think too much about it while living in Poland. Yes, that little thing on top of the Pizza Hut looks like a hat rather than the roof. At least from the Polish perspective :D On the other hand hut=chata sounds similar enough to make it easier to remember :)

I love Pizza Hut. One of my best childhood memories was going there with my mom and sister as a kid in the 90s. It was such a cool and modern place compared to the rest of Poland at that time. The cheese pizza (the topping was just 4 kind of cheese, greasy as fuck 😂) was my favourite. Pizza Hut and McDonald's made me feel the US is super cool.

Powodzenia !

I have a video request. I want to know how Poland does with foreign cuisines. How good are their adaptations? Is your initial reaction that the subject is too trivial? I went to Japan and the food was good, but after just a few days, I found myself getting tired of sushi and tempura. I found they couldn't even make a hamburger. As attentive to detail as these people are, they were completely lost and I realized that I was limited to just Japanese food.
I heard they have a lot of Pizzerias, there. And apparently, even a few American style pizzerias. I heard mostly they closely imitate the Italian style, when they make Pizza. This might be a subject that is important to you. You might get tired of Russian food. I think Polish food is pretty similar to Russian food.
Anyway, I'm quite impressed with your videos and your channel. You are doing a great job at helping me, the lost tourist, get some understanding of this strange country, and how it differs from all the stereotypes I have about Central Europe.

Let me explain very briefly what the name Pizza Hut means. Originally, it meant "hat" and not "hut" because it started in Kansas with a big German population and in German "Hut" means "hat" and it is pronounced as "hoot". That is why the roof looks primarily like a hat but with a big similarity to a little house, just to play on words.
But later, when the chain started to get big, the German "Hut" became English "hoot" to stress the sound, especially sound made by human voice. Since such sound is made by mouth used also for eating pizza, the actual meaning refers to human mouth in general. That is why all Pizza Hut restaurants have a bell to suggest this sound.
In other words, "Pizza Hut" should be pronounced "Pizza Hoot", this is how most of non-English speakers including Polish, German, Spanish, would pronounce it.
There is much more to the meaning behind the name, the shape of the roof, or the pizza in general. But it would take a book to explain.

    • @michaelmckelvey5122

Probably, people are interested because it is an American company that has a following in Poland as well as in England. Actually, Pizza Hut is not so popular in England in general now as many of the original restaurants have disappeared.
