Thanks for posting. This was just the helpful primer I’ve been looking for as I learn to operate an RV in mountains.

I love going over Wolf Creek pass! Going slow is the key, take your time and enjoy it. Great video on how to using your gears and engine braking. Thanks for sharing.

Very helpful video. I've driven over Wolf Creek Pass many times pulling smaller trailers. I'll be doing it with a small TT soon. You've given me some great pointers. Thanks.

Loosing air is one issue if you over use your brakes. The more severe issue is the brakes over heat and loose their effectiveness. That can and does happen in all vehicles. We were behind a Subaru going over Teaton pass they rode their brakes all the way down and by the bottom of the hill there was a distinctive smell. The recommended way to brake on those long downhill runs is to “stab” the brakes. You brake and bleed of 10 to 15 mph then speed back up. Do not keep light pressure on the brakes, press and release. We have a Renegade and the long 12% downhill on WY-14A made for an interesting drive 1st gear and 15 mph all the way down. Happy Camping.

Enjoyed the video and we’ve done this pass a few times. We have a 2022 Entegra Accolade (Jayco clone) and I would recommend using the mode button on the Allison transmission. It creates a more robust shift schedule and eliminates the need to manually downshift in most cases. Works especially well with the exhaust brake going down a steep grade.

"You are here." I suppose that's better than _You is here is where you is_

Just drove this last week. I've done it a few times. Going down toward Pagosa is the scarier side. Just don't be in a hurry, use your brakes wisely.

Thanks for posting! We (homeschool family of 8) were just planning our cross country trip and your video gave me the confidence to go from Pagosa Springs east toward Buena Vista. We will be pulling a 43ft fifth wheel. Also watched your review of Million Dollar Hwy - glad we did because RV Trip Wizard routed us through there to Ouray. We changed our plans and scratched Ouray off the list (although we really want to check it out someday - just not this trip). Thanks for the info!

Maybe I missed it but it seems to me that when driving wolf creek pass it would be appropriate to play the song. 😊

When do you initiate the j brake? I have a diesel pusher and won’t be able to hear the engine for clues to shift, what should I be looking for? RPM’s struggling? I’ll be going over Berthoud pass with a Class A 37ft. 😅

Is Trucker Path useful for RV drivers too?

"It's not a race." "I'm sitting here at a comfortable 45." I'm chuckling because there used to be road raging commuters. That would be pulling their hair out at these epiphanies. hee hee hee. But not any more. They're nearly all gone. And no, it's not due to the work-from-home trend. There's just no jobs.
