  • Have you heard of the Million Dollar Highway? It’s a stretch of road on US Highway 550 in southwestern Colorado. Although no one can validate the true background to the name, three theories exist:
    1. It costs $1,000,000 to expand and pave the highway in 1920.
    2. One visitor finished the road and said, “You’d have to pay me a million dollars to do that again”.
    3. Every way you look it’s a million dollar view.
No matter which theory is correct, one thing is certainly true - this is a beautiful road. But one, we feel, should be enjoyed by your vehicle - and not in your RV. We enjoy filming our drives with our 38’ motorhome on many mountain passes to help empower people to drive it themselves, but for the Million Dollar Highway we feel it isn’t safe for you or other travelers with an RV.
Our latest video shows our drive on Hwy 550 from Silverton to Ouray. We also provide map details for alternate routes and camping options.
The highway has also been nicknamed “Highway to Hell”.
