Leland, you're the man. He's the reason why and how I learned how to play the bass. Since I saw the Live in Berlin video with Phil Collins, I told myself, wow, he plays the bass that seems simple but with class and elegance.
Such a COOL BOOK.....I was one of the first 50 people that purchased the book when it first came out and Lelan was kind enough to Autographed it for US. It's a Great book for any Music buff's collection..
I've been following Lee on his UA-cam channel for some time now. Great stories and one of the most down-to-earth guys in the world. Did I mention, talented?
WHAT A TREAT, TWO GREATS IN ONE ROOM!!! Norm you never cease to amaze me with the talent that comes through your store. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! And, Lee has given the world so many years of GREAT music. Every time I've seen you, you gave an excellent performance and I thank you because your music has had a part in so many events in my lifetime. Thank You.
Mr. Sklar had been saving all those pictures - and the book itself - for a rainy day. Good timing as the wet weather has definitely returned to the West Coast with a vengeance.
Handy If your parked on a hill must rank as one of the best if not the best ........actually, introductions to a book i have ever heard which i am still smiling about right now. Its like you just warm to some people don't you. Thank you Norman for enlightening one who initialy didn't know of Leland Sklar.
So wish I could have come out, not only to visit Lee, but to meet Norm and see this legendary store firsthand! I remember hearing about this wacky (and entirely awesome) idea for a "finger book" back around 2011 or 2012. Was beyond thrilled when it actually materialized!
I was working at a studio and Peter Asher brought Lee into play bass on a film soundtrack. Coolest guy ever. As nice a person as you’ll ever meet. Insisted I give him the finger so he could take a Polaroid. At first i refused but he insisted, saying everyone does it. I had no idea.
Friends in high places. Sweet rarified air. I would love to be a fly on the wall…holy moly. Like Lou Reed sang “It's work” but what a job, and what joy you’ve been a part of. Hey…aren’t you the…. ? I kid! Cheers Lee!
I had the pleasure of meeting Lee after the final Toto show in Philadelphia. I have to say out of all the famous people that I have meant, the Top 4 NICEST People 1. Lee 2. Steve Vai 3. Steve Lukather and 4. Gene Simmons
How much songs, hits, he was playing the bass in the studio session ? Unbelievable much, I remember me on We are all alone by Rita Coolidge, Fire and Rain by James Taylor, played with C,S,N, with Veronique Sanson, TOTO, Phil Collins collab (another day in paradise i.e., Rich girl by Hall and Oates, Running on empty by Jacksone Browne or I am woman by Helen Reddy, so congrats for this guest in your shop.
Indeed, I've often thought of hanging around there, not only to meet Norm and the crew, but any famous players who might drop in - seems to happen on a daily basis.
Ladies and gentlemen!
That is what a legend looks like right there!🎸
Guys like him, Chuck Rainey, all master studio and session guys. Truly the backbone of the industry
Just think of all the "diva behavior" stories Lee could tell, but he never goes there. True gentleman... dang it!
Lee seems like such a genuinely nice, humble person. Really enjoy listening to him speak..
He is a genuinely nice man. Met him once after a concert and I felt like I was talking to an old friend.
