SERIES SUMMARY
The Alpha Jay Show reviews animation episodes, animated TV movies, cartoons, and other things as a main series. I have reviewed many things from Fairly Oddparents to SpongeBob to Teen Titans Go to The Amazing World Of Gumball and many more. Expect a fair, open-minded and non-pandering review of whatever episode I use. Bear in mind while I do use copyrighted material, it is highly likely that my content falls under the legal defense of fair use.

SHOW SUMMARY
Sick, twisted and politically incorrect, the animated series features the adventures of the Griffin family. Endearingly ignorant Peter and his stay-at-home wife Lois reside in Quahog, R.I., and have three kids. Meg, the eldest child, is a social outcast, and teenage Chris is awkward and clueless when it comes to the opposite gender. The youngest, Stewie, is a genius baby bent on killing his mother and destroying the world. The talking dog, Brian, keeps Stewie in check while sipping martinis and sorting through his own life issues. -- Google Search

What do you think of this episode?
Love Brian and Stewies character development here, these kinda episodes really elevate Family Guys quality.
It's my favorite episode of the Show and it might be my only favorite episode of Family Guy
@@blazrrr-4082 sadly Seth throws all character development away for the comedy most time. Still a good show, even if the ideas are watering down. Seth has a good talent when it comes to balancing jokes with story, the Orville is a good example, Ted too.
Alpha Jay Show it’s my favorite family guy episode.
Review Mixels! It's a good show
If Seth MacFarlane is talking to himself in the episode then it must have been an easy day for the other voice actors.
Must've been cheap to make too, considering there was only one background.

Thats what I was thinking...
This was the fisrt episode of Family Guy I've ever watched, and I thought all episodes were like that. I was wrong.
I kept reading this, and thought it was “ how Brian and Stewie made love”
This was made this way because it was supposed to be Seth last episode
You could still talk about Adventure Time...
My sister got locked in a bank vault when she was working alone at closing. The gate closed and locked, but the metal door was still open. There's a panic button inside so she pushed it and the police showed up. Unfortunately, they didn't see anything wrong so they left. The panic button gets stuck down after being pushed and needed to be reset. She spent way too long using a paperclip to pry the button back up so she could push it again. This time when the police came, she threw her shoe at the door so they would know someone was inside.
Ok...glad shes safe.
Oh hey, a pun.
Damn! That's a TERRIBLE design for a panic button! I'm glad she's ok!
She's pretty brave not to panic, hopefully she is safe now
Lmao who the fuck thinks this is real?
kiamatyful okay so you expect us to believe that your sister was locked in an air tight vault for what I’m assuming a couple of hours. Without suffocating? Even if there was enough air to sustain her for many many hours. They wouldn’t lock someone in there without any safety precautions. And there would be a camera in the vault for robbery’s and monitoring and what not.
Nice try
It also had no cutaway gags.
Words to describe this episode
Heartwarming, DARK, Serious, Suicide.
Pikachu Pikachu also amazing
That's why it was so good. If it had cutaways, it wouldn't have worked.
Ikr perfect
This episode was great for me we see how Brian and Stewie’s relationship evolve over the series. In the original seasons Brian and Stewie’s relationship was harsh and it seemed like Stewie’s could care less for Brian. But later on they show a lot of care and respect for each other. When Brian explained why he wanted to commit suicide we can sympathize with him because we see Brian try to become a writer but he fails. We see him head to Hollywood to find himself and he had to battle a drug addiction. He lost his mother and he goes through pain like humans do but some people treats him like garbage because he is a dog. Brian is trying to find meaning in his life like we do. And we the audience can relate to him.
Damn dude that's deep
Was this before or after Brian knowingly gave Stevie herpes after a blood pact?
*HellRay* this took place before Brian gave Stewie herpes. Which btw was a stupid episode it was so out of character and Brian would never do something like that to Stewie.
*S E O* my apologies for that. I didn’t realize how deep that sounded until I read it out loud. I consider Brian one of the most human character in the original family guy seasons and I can’t help but feel sorry for the guy when he was trying to succeed in life but he kept failing on so many levels.
In the original run of the show, they weren't friends but two characters that shared something in common, which was the fact that they were species who could not normally talk, but had the advantage of talking and they were placed in the wrong situation in the wrong time, which resulted in great comedy out of the two. The "Road to" episodes were parodies of the old "Road to" movies, from the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. However, with the show being diluted with it's own success sometime after the 2007 writer's strike, it got a little too hung up on the Brian and Stewie stories, to the point of squeezing most of the characters out and making them background props, and extremely unlikable, and making Brian and Stewie the main characters. To me, that goes against the original concept of the show. The point of "Family Guy" was that while it was a parody of sitcoms, it was still a very character driven sitcom that had stories that focused on each character, and was heavy on character development. Brian and Stewie episodes were good because they came once a season, and they were the one episode you looked forward to, but making virtually all of the episodes about them, and stripping the personalities out of the majority of the characters not only takes out all the fun, but ruins the whole purpose of "Family Guy". The show is called "Family Guy", after all. Also, that's Brian from the first 3 seasons you're describing. That Brian, and the Brian in "Brian and Stewie" are two completely different characters. Brian became unlikable well before he "died", beginning from 2008. Already, he was using Jillian for sex, forcing his political views onto the audience, had a massive ego and flaunted about how much of a great writer he was, bit the hand that fed him and took advantage of his family's hospitality and the worst thing, is that the show wants us to feel sympathy for him no matter what he does, despite being unsalvagable at this point in the show.
This episode (in my opinion) is the best family guy episode.
"And then there were fewer" was great too
Dont forget road to
Guilshad Joseph Yep, along with the Road To movies.
All of the “Road to _____s” are great too
The Star Wars Parody trilogy is my favorite
I'll be honest, this episode has always stuck with me, even when I was younger. It was always one of my favourite episodes, but since I've grew older, the episode hits home much more and has a lot more meaning behind it. It has such a more serious topic contrast than the majority of other episodes and it worked really well.
I've struggled with suicidal thoughts for 10 years and honestly, the idea that your death will cause others pain is often enough to keep you from doing it. Saying Brian is selfish for wanting to commit suicide is pretty insensitive but Stewie isn't a therapist he's just a friend who cares and the fact that he listens and tries to understand is very courteous of him.
I disagree that saying suicide is selfish is insensitive. It is selfish. I understand that depression is overbearing and that taking your own life seems like the easy way out, but you killing yourself only brings those around you grief and guilt. You use a permenant solution to a temporary problem and now your friends and family will spend the rest of thier lifetimes wondering what they didn't do right to make you stay in their lives. And who knows? Down the road, you might find out that you make somebody's life worth living. Suicide is selfish and people that suffer from depression need to seek help.
It doesn't even matter if it's selfish. You don't know what death is like, so, to assume it's gonna "end your misery" *could* be a big mistake.
@@taylorbigelow6364 You know what's also selfish? Wanting someone to live when they clearly don't want to for your own sake. Also "You use a permanent solution to a temporary problem." Well guess what? They feel that temporary problem is large and painful enough to warrant a permanent solution. Everything you said for why people should kill themselves is equally selfish. You're not thinking of their benefit. You're not thinking of ways for them to live that will give them purpose. You're thinking that they should continue to suffer for other people's sake. Which is a horrible way to live.
@@RJLiams Yes, I'm so selfish for wanting people to give life a chance. As a person who dealt with those emotions, I have every right to tell you that it's selfish. When your life has hit the bottom, there's only one way to go from there. If you stay strong and just hold on to life, it eventually gets better. Had I succeeded in my attempt at suicide, I would have missed out on so much. New friends or experiences, watching my baby sister be born and becoming her favorite person... I didn't know any of it would happen and I wish I could go back and tell myself how stupid I was. How selfish I was for leaving behind people that would need me later on.
You're a bastard for supporting suicide. You don't even know if death will solve the issues that person has. Maybe it gets worse! You should NOT tell people that suicide isn't selfish. People like you, who justify suicide, make me sick. You should be encouraging people to live. Help them however you can. Take their hands and guide them. You should show them that there is always something worth living for. Inspire them to give life a chance.
But justifying suicide is as bad as giving them a noose or loading the gun for them. You're part of the problem. Don't justify it. Get them to seek help.
@@taylorbigelow6364 Except you don't want people to give life a chance. If you're calling someone suicidal selfish it isn't at the benefit of the actual suicidal person. It's for your own. All you're thinking about is yourself. Making you actually worse as your just being a massive freaking hypocrite. so yes, you are a selfish and heartless person if your turn to someone suicidal and call them selfish. Because it's clear you care little about their well being and mindset. Hell, you're probably more likely to push them even further into suicide because it's easy to take the idea of them being selfish and saying that another reason why no one would miss him.
I want to say Brian and Stewie could have their own series, but I'm too worried it'll end up like the Cleveland Show.
It would be different from the Cleveland Show because Cleveland isn't really a main character like Brian and Stewie so his show didn't really do anything for anybody
A Joe spinoff would've been more interesting seeing what he could do with his... Limitations
geardog24 or it would turn family guy into the Cleveland show
@@justyumi4410 - they recently did a gag where joe gets a title card each time in the episode he'd cracked a joke but not one time.
I actually liked the Cleveland show
I still overall don't like this series, but this episode and most others that focus solely on Brian and Stewie are good. When you break it down to just these two you actually get some legitimately good moments.
Raiden Absolutely.
Yep, the Road to... Episodes are by FAR my favorites of the series!
What is not to like? It offends the pussies in the world and we need thick skin people not wussies Js
@@thespongedoobie2848
I don't like it, not because it's offensive. But because it's irritating, edgy, and not funny in the least. The voice acting is nails on a chalkboard. The cutaways are their main attempts at humor and frankly, never ever funny to me. I'm not a wuss. I couldn't care less if they want to make episodes about a guy marrying his son or domestic abuse victims staying in an abusive household because it's "strong." Family Guy is trying way too hard to be edgy for lost teenagers. And it was never what a cartoon should be: funny, engaging, or compelling. Don't call people who don't like it a pussy without knowing exactly why they don't like it.
Assassin's Guilt yeah season 1-4 were cool but then it kinda just lost the magic
I feel that the writers only put effort these days when its a Brian and Stewie episode.
Yeah those are the best Family Guy Episodes
And then there’s herpes the love sore
Still love this episode
Not to mention Brian and Quagmire's dinner conversation earlier this season in Jerome is the New Black, which would lead to episodes like Quagmire's Dad one episode after Brian & Stewie and Brian's Unholy Trifecta in Season 12. Life of Brian, Brian's a Bad Father, and the aforementioned Herpes, the Love Sore. Stewie is Enceinte didn't help much, either.
@@RWBYraikou888 to be fair that was 4 seasons ago,and the crew was slowly getting there shit back together around season 14
Tito Akinsade As well as Stewie Is Enciente. Seriously, who the fuck came up with the idea of a BABY (a FUCKING MALE BABY!) getting pregnant?!
Lets just act like that episode doesn't exist
Man, that episode was disgusting! Not even funny!
I have similar feelings with the episode, but even then I was still kind of indifferent to Family Guy. I’d call this the peak of Family Guy, at least in terms of storytelling.
Family Guy got bad after the episode where Brian died then it took a turn for the worst
'Peak' Family Guy ended with the 2nd season.
Carlos Fred It’s more of an opinion from me. What I said isn’t set in stone. Plus I meant on a single-episodic peak rather than a season-sized peak.
Also I love your profile.
Even with the eating shit scene?
I hate how people try to say that a character acting on their own instincts and personality makes anything a “plothole” or a problem with the episode because they acted differently to how the viewer would act, I just needed to say that, this has nothing to do with the video
This is seriously one of the best comments on UA-cam and I must give you a million props. To call an episode flawed because a viewer doesn’t like a certain character is so pointless as to stagger belief. You don’t watch a show to like all of the show’s characters and to agree with 100 percent of their decisions, you watch a show to be entertained, to laugh, and to kill time before death.
If characters acted the way these idiot viewers think they themselves would act, there’d be no show. It would be a humorless, unwatchable bore.
Stewie saying that Brian's purpose is to give his life purpose perfect sense. Dogs are companion animals and perhaps Brian never really realized that he is a companion to Stewie, therefore felt he never really had a purpose.
This is a geniunely good episode.
I may not be a huge Family Guy fan, but I really do like the episodes involving Stewie and Brian, especially this one. I personally think the show would be a lot better if both characters were the main focus instead of the rest of the Griffins, especially nowadays.
This episode was actually made to get back at fox iirc and wasnt meant to do well
But that's essentially what it is now. Since Season 7, Brian and Stewie have been the main focus of the show and most of the other characters have been turned into background props. The only other time any other character gets their own story, it's Peter and his friends, which warps the entire premise of the show, because "Family Guy" used to set it's focus on every character, and allowed room for development for them all. Making them best friends also sabotages their original dynamic, as they worked better when they were two species who could talk when their species wouldn't normally interact in our language, and were at odds with each other, but were stranded in the wrong place in the wrong time, and their reaction to the situation made for great comedy. I have a theory that the reason why they made most of the characters unlikable (Except Joe, Meg and Mayor West) is so Brian and Stewie could assume the spotlight. But the problem is, they're unlikable and annoying themselves these days. Brian is a wannabe gangsta who uses women for sex, treats women like crap, acts like he's superior to everyone, forces his political views (I'm a Democrat, by the way) down everyone's throats, and makes Cartman look like a good person by comparison, and Stewie acts way too cutesy, and more like a normal baby who happens to talk, which destroys the original purpose of his character, because he was funny because he was the opposite of what you'd expect babies to be, and brought conflict to the show.
I see where this is going, but they could over do it and ruin it.
@@chrismann1769 You're an idiot
Tizy Man For pointing out how unlikable Brian and Stewie are? Sorry that I don’t like a womanizer who has a superiority complex, and acts too much like a gangsta wannabe, and a character who’s obnoxious, and annoying.
I love how we’re all just gonna ignore Stewie's screensaver.
I wish some parts of the evil genius stewie was would come back but in a natural and low key way
His evil half was killed in an episode iirc

@@TheAlphaJayShow can you do that episode next??
The problem with this episode is that it doesn't feel earned. The characters outside of this episode are horrible and do horrible things so when it came to this episode it was mostly off putting.
'Road to Rhode Island' on the other hand had great jokes, a fantastic musical number, and it showed Brian and Stewie's relationship perfectly. Compare them and it's obvious why many people despise modern Family Guy.
My Thoughts exactly
Then those people need to stop taking Family Guy so damn seriously.
Road to Rhode Island was back when Brian and Stewie weren't friends yet.
It was back when Brian saw Stewie as a little juvenile with lame mediocre efforts of world domination. And when Stewie saw Brian as a worthless second class deteriorating sarcastic dog.

I love this episode. I deal with depression and have felt the way Brian feels about having a gun. I have had that conversation with a friend before I went to a institution for a little bit. Now I own a gun to protect my family. Not because I don't wanna be on this Earth.
This is the one Family Guy review that should have been done, I'm so satisfied to an undescribable level.
Let me put this into a different perspective
If this channel was literally the only thing ever, and Family Guy was the only content you would have done, I'd wish for death because it would indeed be the highlight of my life.
(Obviously reaching but I felt happy thought this entire review)
Are we not gonna talk about how they drank out of the same bottle after Brian ate feces and vomit?
I would’ve absolutely loved it if Stevie ended up with a earring (because Brian pierced his ear) just to show how much Brain’s actions mean to him.
It’s probably just me who thinks this ;-;
Here are some Versus ideas I’ve had in my head for a while if you need inspiration:
- A Breath of Fresh Squidward (Spongebob) vs The Fremergency Fronfract (Wander Over Yonder)
- Homer’s Enemy (Simpsons) vs The Infernal Internship of Mark Beaks (Ducktales 2017)
- Life of Brian (Family Guy) vs Kenny Dies (South Park)
Cure Hana Third one no contest,it's like comparing the emoji movie to the incredibles

I find it weird when people animate themselves as animals, are you a furry??
F B I No, just wanted a mascot.
I've always loved Brian and Stewie's relationship more than anybody else's on the show.
But the show itself is in way too deep on its own shit to ever be "lovable."
I never understood why they didn't just empty the deposit box and put the diaper in said box.
Yeah yeah, Brian's self-sacrifice and what not, but still.
What if the boxes aren’t airtight? the smell would still leak out
And stewie needed the diaper incase he used it again
I like this episode on its own. Don't care for family guy as a whole.
I love this episode.
I’ve always had a soft spot for well- developed friendships in media like cartoons, and these two are what keep me interested in Family Guy despite not caring for the rest of it besides this episode. Some people were turned off by the feces eating scene, but I personally think it needed to be there. Imagine someone asking you to do what Stewie asks of Brian. Would you do that for your best friend? It just showcases the lengths Brian would go to for Stewie, and it needed to be something so shocking and revolting to have the impact it did. Also, I love the banter that the two keep throughout. They don’t sound like an actor reading off of a script; they sound like real people and real friends when they have conversations. The topic of suicide was handled so respectfully, and the emotions were so real and really hit home for many people, even those who don’t relate to Brian’s struggles. Overall, I’m not a fan of Family Guy. I find it raunchy and unfunny a majority of the time, and I only watch it for Brian and Stewie’s interactions. However, this episode is something very special, a true diamond in the rough. I really enjoyed this video, Alpha! :)
Edit: the only thing that taints this episode for me is Herpe the Love-sore. If you’re open to suggestions, maybe you could do a review on how that episode completely goes against everything set up in this one? It would be interesting to see, if you’re willing. Keep up the good work :)
The moment they pulled the "you're selfish" argument was the moment they lost my respect.
Yeah this is one of my favorite episodes, it’s has such good writing and scene building.

South Park really needs an episode like this. I have a few ideas for the two characters to use:
-Stan and Kyle
-Craig and Clyde
-Craig and Tricia (his sister)
-Stan and Wendy
-Kenny and Butters
-Stan and Butters
Just Stan and Kyle, they been on edge for over 5 seasons. They need to talk out their problems
I know this comment is old but YES I agree completely! I think Stan and Kyle would be amazing for this scenario, or Stan and Butters bc they’re kinda foils in some episodes.
And Kyle & Caran they definitely need to have a talk
i personally loved the episode but i know why it gets so much hate, people are judging it as a comedy, fair enough cuz family guy typically is one, but that episode clearly wasn't trying to be as comedical as the rest and people say its bad for doing what it tried to do perfectly, just cuz its not what they've come to expect from a show that's (again) primarily a comedy
Because during this period, Family Guy as a whole became more mean spirited, cynical, dark, nihlistic and started to take itself too seriously. Episodes like this are not in the spirit of "Family Guy", and not what the show is all about. I come to "Family Guy" to get away from the pessimism of the real world, not to be dragged back into it.
@@chrismann1769 maybe thats what it was to u and those people but clearly not to the creators
Yes, it was. The show took a “everyone is wrong, and no one is right” approach starting from Season 7, and most of the episodes involved the characters acting like jerks, and the tone shifted from lighthearted, witty comedy, to being a sadistic, cold hearted, and pessimistic show about how the real world and life sucks and you have to deal with it. While I’m not saying that concept can’t be done right, it doesn’t belong in “Family Guy”. “Family Guy” was first and foremast a conventional sitcom that parodied tropes associated with classic sitcoms, but it also was a sitcom in itself and focused on the family’s subversive adventures. That’s the show we knew, and what we became accustomed to. Table ring with that is just alienating the audience that helped bring it back in the first place. Also, I can’t stand shows that have this kind of atmosphere. The real world is as cynical as it is, so you rely on entertainment to numb you out of it.
Tampering I mean, not table ring. Damn autocorrect.
@@chrismann1769 okay all of that is a matter of opinion and biased based upon how you see the show and how u relate to it, sure they did take that approach but not nearly as much as in this episode, also putting cynicism in a comedy can make it funny
I havent finished the episode yet. Did he mention why brian had to eat the poop when they could just lock the diaper in the safe deposit box?

@@TheAlphaJayShow and it took more effort to type all that out then just say "no"
@@albertschoise8091 they have the key to brian's. They could have taken the bird, book, bottle and gun out, put the diaper in and closed it. But it would have made the episode less impactful I guess
Iirc they made a comment about stewie needing to have a diaper on. I can't remember the exact reason tho
Great video!!
Mika Xoxoxo Thank you!
This episode and the one where Stewie brings brain back from the dead are really important and emotional episodes that show how they feel about each other as well as how far these to charecters have come from the first seasons. They keep improving while the others get worse honestly
I love that episode!
I love this episode. I suffer from severe depression. I know how Brian feels. Stewie's response is very much alike how my friends and family would react to my feelings of inadequacy. This episode is so spot on with me.
Honestly same by me sadly... Only difference my family would not give a shit anyways (like they never did) and friends outside online i dont have. The only things i have probaly are my fiance and (probaly soon) mother in law.
The credits on your video. I see what you did there.
A good family guy review? What??
When are we getting a Lois and Meg episode or Lois and Chris.
Shadowmist909 This would be my second one.
Has lois and chris focused episodes actually happened? Ik of a couple lois and meg ones

I agree this is a good episode but not every Family Guy episode has to deal with real life problems or dark topics, I watch shows like Bojack horseman or South Park for that, Family Guy is a comedy show and idk why people just want it to be serious most of the time…
Main reason I started watching Family Guy (and honestly kinda the only reason I watch): Brian and Stewie
Stewie is my fav out of famully guy! I LOVE HOW HE AND BRIAN BECAME FREINDS :)
Probably tied with PTV and Road to Rhode Island as my favorite episode.
13:42 this feels oddly familiar
So I actually never even thought of this before, but when it comes to the whole Brian needing to eat the poop on the diaper rather than just taking it off of Stewie because then the smell would remain in the vault.... Well, couldn't they have just put the diaper in Brian's safety deposit box? Those things are pretty damn thick and most are airtight, and of course Brian had the key to it with him, so yeah.🤷🏼♀️ I mean Stewie wouldn't have a diaper in that scenario, but according to Stewie that still would've been an acceptable solution, and the only reason that merely taking it off _wasn't_ an option was due to the smell filling up the vault. Idk, just a possible solution I thought of out of nowhere, and which I can't believe NEVER occurred to me before now🤦🏼♀️
One of my favourite episodes where they just give us great character moments, no cut away gags I also loved how it was quiet
And then Life of Brian made you hate Family Guy.
I think it made some people hate Family Guy
@@TheodoreAWatts Some is an understatement.
Quagmire's Dad, the episode right after Brian and Stewie, was the one that did it for me because I knew it was all downhill from there...
Life of Brian followed by the next two episodes made Fox realize they can now make Brian kill fodder for additional mean spirited "humor"
As much as I hate Brian's character.
Yes, episode was good.
EXACTLY. His "new" character is so different. So frustrating what they changed him to
@@Sagacypher They should have stuck with Vinny if this was Brian's fate...
This show is LAME!!
A great episode👍👍
It’s pretty Sad when Family guy GETS real . Of course Stewie ( I’m going to call him by his hole name so Stewart) and Brian can be having a Conversation that are sometime’s Dark as hell . Definitely when Brian wasn’t around and Vinny was Stewart’s Victim , yes Stewart isn’t Oke when it comes to friends... Vinny was hated by Stewart because Well Brian was a father figure for Stewart, I mean just watch some episodes With the both of them . Peter isn’t a great father definitely to his eldest daughter, Meg , on the other hand Brian is a good Father figure. And if your going to Be questioning Dylan , Brian isn’t going to be the great father to Dylan even if it’s Brian’s fault. So Brian and Stewart have a son and father relationship and that is important.

Don't understand why Mr. Enter didn't like this one. I mean sure, the gross-out scene was gratuitous, but once you get past that, it's a heartwarming moment of deconstructing Brian and Stewie's relationship with each other.
Mr. Enter is an over dramatic baby. He's fully aware that Family Guy is a show aimed at an older audience but feels they need to "tone down" what they say and do simply because younger viewers watch it. Like they're responsible for other people's kids.
@@RJLiams Yeah, you're just pulling shit out of your ass. There wasn't a moment where Mr. Enter ever insinuated that the show should be toned down to appeal to younger audience. His only complaints about the show is that the characters are unsympathetic, they fail to convey the moral in an episode introduced correctly, and the gross-out humor is played more for the sake of shock rather than actual comedy. That was his complaints about the show. He enjoys other adult shows like Rick & Morty and Bojack Horseman.
@@flaimthrowerzatwes19 They made a slitting wrists joke and he complained that they're aware of their younger audience. Going on this massive rant about how irresponsible Family Guy is and how they need to take that seriously.
@@RJLiams Actually, the point he was making is that the writers were making a failed attempt at trying to appeal to teenagers since they know that teens also watch the show when their parents aren't paying attention. Hell if anything, he wants the writers to stop trying to make some half-assed joke to try to appeal the younger audience BECAUSE younger audience shouldn't be watching Family Guy (like seriously, who the fuck lets their children watch Family Guy?). I ain't here to argue, nor am I acting as the so-called "Enterbot" you're liable to accuse me of being. I know that Enter used to be a bit melodramatic in his past reviews and overly irate at worst, and he was still overly pissed off at that scene. I'm just saying.
@@RJLiams I couldn't have said it better pal
This is my favourite family guy episode, just the peak of storytelling and shows the skill of the writers that they were able to carry a full episode with such emotional depth with just two characters in a confined space. family guy is a comedy, sure, but this episode showed a realistic side. i have depression so i connected with this a whole lot
Holy shit I just re watched that episode. I gotta say, it's probably my favorite of the whole series.
I would literally watch a version of the show called brian and stewie that just had them living together in a run down apartment complex with the nearby tenets as friends and problems, they would also have to be more serious throughout it's seasons and they can still crack jokes together but a great deal of time should them working to pay bills and to get the food they need so most episodes would have them working but have stories outside of that with friends and issues like real life because work isn't the only thing you have to deal with.
Dude I would go absolutely feral over that, it would be amazing
I have been suicidal for as long as I can remember. I have also eaten a lot of $)?@ from my friends. This episode is not comedy gold... Though I'd argue it's written sincerely by someone who has been well acquainted with suicidal thoughts
This is one of my favorite episodes
I was honestly hoping the title was sarcasm, no offense- this episode was just the show's attempt to prove it can be super deep and meaningful, but it came off kinda pretentious to me (especially when they tried to have a super dramatic moment after having Brian eat out of Stewie's diaper). Family Guy does not do serious stuff well.
I get where you're coming from, but personally, this isn't as bad as the later "serious" episodes, like when they talk about abuse or killing off a character. If anything, the fact that they suck at doing serious storytelling is why I don't like the show now. At least with a similar show like American Dad, it doesn't take itself as seriously as Family Guy.
@@michaelstrong5383 Yeah, I don't disagree with you at all.
@@michaelstrong5383 It was pretty bad for the time it premiered, but the subsequent "serious" episodes in Season 9 were far worse than "Brian and Stewie". I don't blame you, considering the fact that the show started to take itself way too seriously is one of the reasons why I fell out of favor with "Family Guy". During Seasons 7-9, the show became so drunk with it's success that it inevitably forgot what made it so great in the first place. The show is pretty bad now, but I'd take it over anything made during 2008-2011 any day. In the early days (1999-2002), "Family Guy" didn't care about impressing anyone and just told a great story, with likable characters and sharp humor. "Road to Rhode Island" did a better job of exploring Stewie and Brian's characters than any of the later seasons.
How does every UA-camr have the i on the corner of the video?
This video was great
To me this episode was just Seth showing off what his writing could do. This is the kind of character development and relationship he could be writing. But it's wasted on Family Guy, where the main cast are all terrible people and we're meant to have this deep respect for Brian but next episode he's going around being a repulsive, up his own ass jerk again. Stewie isn't even the same character he was when the series began. I've seen the comment made before and I have to agree that this episode is not deserved. Season 1-3 Brian and Stewie deserved this, but by this point we know what their characters are written down to and we know their relationship because Seth won't stop shoving their friendship in our faces in every episode.
Look at the early "Road to" episodes. Stewie's flair for evil was contrasted perfectly to Brian's easy going, every man attitude. That had great character development but also worked in great jokes. The Road To episodes didn't have to cut off Brian and Stewie from the world to force their relationship to grow, it did it naturally with the writing. This episode, compared to the brilliant Road To ones, just doesn't compare. It's not funny, its just uncomfortable to watch.
I really wish Seth would quit. His writing has worsened from his long time on Family Guy when he used to write such witty, well done quips and episodes. I was so excited to see his movies Ted and A Million Ways to Die in the West but seeing it as just Family Guy jokes rehashed for different settings was disappointing.
I agree, except I'd say season 1 to 4 actually. After that they gradually started changing I think
I do love the conversation they have on the gun and suicide because a lot of people do have suicidal thoughts sometimes and Brian stated the reasons a lot of people have those thoughts
The dynamic between Brian and Stewie is the highlight of the modern series.
I loved this episode other than the shit eating part
