0:34 your face of I should have set a limit
Been looking at one of those online there not cheap would like to get one..
thank you so much for this video I originally wanted a gtr but the SS is way more in my budget
Great content bro, special car here in Australia & New Zealand Holden & Ford (Felcon) culture, real race pedigree behind these vehicles. If you really love your ss check out what's in the 2017 GTSR W1 by HSV
Great info Red SS! I honestly didn’t know about the SS until an old friend of mine was selling one. Well, I ended up buying it last September. A 2016 Heron White with a manual 6spd 12 miles away from my home in California. Got a mild street tune dynoed 413 rwhp and 389 rwtq! Best car I’ve ever owned!
Adler Carreon congratulations on getting one!
Thx for this
The Holden GM Chevy SS and Pontiac G8 are great machines. I bought a 2009 Pontiac G8 GT brand new in 2009 and still have it today. I have 76000 miles on it and it has never given me any problems. Last year I did mod the car with a 2.3 liter Magnuson supercharger, stage 3 cam, long tube headers, cold air intake, larger fuel injectors and an E85 conversion, with a dyno tune. It puts down 585 hp on 93 octane and 715 hp on E85 with methanol. I also beefed up the suspension. It will hang with just about anything and it will go as fast as you want it to. I plan on keeping it and giving it to my grandson some day.
I recently purchased a 2016, where can I buy a holden grille lol
The infotainment and air con buttons are different and upgraded on the the AUD cars... USA only got the basic console which AUD never got... Buy from wreckers yard and install
can you make a video about a Chevy trailblazer? because my mom is selling her KIA optima and she wants to know if it is safe for children
Im in perth western Australia and i just bought a holden Commodore vf ssv series 2 manual 6.2 ls3,second hand 40 000 Australian dollars,2016 ,series 2 October 2016 to October 2017 the best model, redline is next model up from our ssv.the best Australian built car ever and I grew up in the seventies, prices are rising over here so better be quick
That’s awesome!
This is the car I’m working for right now🙏🏽 Currently manifesting it into my garage 🦅
Same
How’s it coming along y’all I’m currently manifesting the same lol
ever get it? been 2 years lol
Still working on it. Some events took place in my life but I’m not giving up 💪
Getting mine next month
I put pedders xa coilovers on my ssv and she drives amazing i really recommend it you won't be disappointed!!
Just Seen Your Video .I'm in UK have The VXR8 /HSV .As its a Vauxhall . Took all them Off .Now Have a Aussie V8 Badge an More logos Cheers M8
I just want one, dream car
1. Don’t mod your car 2. Ok - I don’t disagree about the paint (I have that issue too) 3. Enthusiasts already know it is a Holden so don’t waste your money putting the ugly Holden badge on your car! Owner of a 2016 Manual SS!
Recommendation: protect your car! Even small stuff like a magnetic oil bolt. Weathertech mats. And make sure you save the OEM parts, but protect it!
I have a magnetic 🧲 oil bolt. I’ve been using 3D Maxpider weather mats for over a year, holding up fantastic. I wash it often, paint correct annually. For daily driving punishment over 91K miles, it’s holding up so far lol. Front of the car is trash but repaint will come soon.
There’s a 2014 SS for sale in my home town, but it has 100k miles on it and is 2014.. I would recommend that the buyer really knows the difference between the models (it’s not much but worth mentioning). I have a 2015 for reference
Good call out, thanks!
I kinda disagree with number three, but one and two are spot on 👌🏻 😅
My opinion (not that you asked) is that it is a Chevrolet here in the states. The gauge cluster and infotainment all say Chevy. It has SS embroidery, not SSV. Its propelled by a fully Chevy (GM) drivetrain. It even looks like most other Chevy vehicles in its generation.
For me, I never did the swap because I would need to do EVERYTHING. I need everything to match. Guage cluster, nav screen, airbag, seats, dash, center caps. But then.... its still left hand drive. So now youve created something completely new and not an actual Holden Commodore.
Sorry for the rant, just my $0.02 lol
I concur on the rock chips. I was considering selling my ss for a pre owned m3 but I think I will keep the ss and get a used m2 when I pay off the ss.
chitterlingsrtasty I couldn’t stand it anymore. Just got the front repainted lol. Will upload video tomorrow morning 👍🏼
Did you convert your screen to the Holden badge? If so can you point me in the right direction? Thanks.
I haven't changed the screen. If you're a Facebook user I have seen some chatter about it on the Chevy SS Owners Facebook page. I'm not familiar with the process though.
@@RedSS Ok Thanks for responding.
i,m keeping mine till i die, the last aussie holden built and the best , ls3 music is magic i love my car forever
That is awesome!!!
I would love to find a Red black orange SS with a sunroof & with auto trans i wish i could buy the Walkinshaw bumpers from the Holden cars because those look really aggressive
STRONGLY Recommend either blacking out the chrome on the dash or tinting the windows enough to tone down the sun.
If the sun hits some of the chrome on the dash right it'll blind you while driving lol.
OMG #2 Totally agree need protection. I said same thing after 1st few chips.
Love your passion for the car 🚗, I've got an 07 HSV Clubsport here in Australia, just love driving it. Great videos
Thanks! Wish we got HSV here.
Keep the Chevy badges
I just bought a 2016 SS this week, I'm very happy with it thus far. Already ordered my Holden Grille/Badges lol.
Excellent! Enjoy it to its fullest potential!
How much did you spend for the badges 😈
@@shomariblack5558 I have holden badges brand new off my SS for sale if your interested man
Well done mate as they should be
Have 3. Holden's in my shead
Probably going to buy one in the coming months. Have 3 cars to sell but I’ll easily be able to afford one. There are plenty around me, just not too many in manual. Oh well I’m fine with auto tbh
All Gas No Brakes awesome man, keep us posted!
Holden Badges/Conversion, PPF (Paint Protection Film) and Cermamic Coating (Opti Coat Pro Plus) 😉👍🏾💯
Its funny how in America they put holden badges on it and in Australia some ppl put chevy badges on it lol 😂
I’ve heard that a few times 😂
good suggestions - what mods would you recommend? possibly some realistic mods for overbearing california smog requirements. thank for sharing
Not too familiar with California state regulations but I’ve seen some owners there with cold air intake and long tube headers with high flow cats at least, some with a full supercharger kit too. I’m guessing it’ll come down to the custom tune that’s compliant with emissions, so definitely talk with the tuner for the best guidance possible.
Spot on brotha!!
Mods: If you're changing the badges, that's the easy part. Interiors: There are good Australian Holden/HSV wreckers on eBay that can ship to North America. If you can get goodies like HSV seats, airbag cover & even a cluster it'll stand out. Be thankful that doing engine mods are cheaper in North America than Australia. Low mileage in Australia means nothing. If your Holden is serviced properly, it'll last you a very long time. An example of this was a friend of mine who had a '97 Holden VT Commodore & she did nearly 500,000miles on the original L36 Buick V6 & it only gave up when it was costing her more to fix than the VT was worth. She bought a VY L36 V6 in Sept 2017 to replace it. Look after your SS & it'll look after you.
Tyres (tires): Cos you guys have snow I know a few people have 2 sets. Winter tyres & performance tyres. Buy what's best for your car. This also includes G8's, GTO's & the police Caprices.
Stock up on hard to get parts. Holden don't make cars anymore. Buy parts that wear out more. Even a full interior as a spare or for use will help when you end up with a worn seat. Upholsterers charge an arm & a leg.
If buying HSV parts, remember they attract more money. HSV is the racing arm of Holden.
If a Chev SS is out of your budget, consider the Pontiac G8 or the police Caprice. They are built on the same platform & share many parts. Again if you can't get a part in North America, try Australia. For those who own a G8, look at HSV body kits & badges for something different.
Holden built their cars for longevity in a variety of conditions & well looked after, they will serve you well, you'll enjoy it. There are Holden forums/pages etc & are not hard to find. I run a FB page for Holden VU,VY,VZ utes, One-tonners & Crewman & I get asked questions all the time over everything.
Wow this is awesome information, thank you for sharing your insight and providing more details on best practices around the longevity of this car!
Have a 2017 SS . Changed the badging right after I purchased it and installed a k&n cold air intake. Best car I have driven , a real pleasure to drive.
Still driving it ?
Still driving it ?
Nice vid. Careful coming across the Wilson bridge like that. Fairfax County and the Staties like to camp out near there. Oh and I got my Holden bits today. Waiting on the beer to get here so I can do the swap.
Lol I’m quite familiar with their methods, thanks for looking out! Share some photos when your Holden stuff is done.
If you have a manual. Get a 1st - 4th delete
Hey how are you doing? I’m lookin forward into buying a Chevy ss but It has 80,000 miles on it and it’s a 14 for about 4grand. Is it worth it?
adolfo romero $4,000 for it?
Red SS yes it’s on the auction
Buy it
I’ve been looking for a manual transmission but no luck
I live on the east coast, found a manual out in Dallas with 8k miles. Flew out and drove it back... best decision ever! When you find one, no matter how far away it is, get it!
AutoTempest has a ton
By a manual!
Ramzi Chair I would get one with a manual transmission
Nice Armin, keep on promoting our best Holden ever! I just got back from 4 weeks in your country, travelled east to west and only saw 1!
It is an excellent example of Australian’s best work! Not surprised you only saw one Holden while you were here lol, it’s like spotting a unicorn depending where you are.
"Badge it as a Holden, and makeit your own". Really? You mean make it one of the multi millions of Holden vehicles being driven in Australia? That Is not making it your own. 12,000 Chevy SS vehicles were produced for Chevy USA. That alone is the single point of distinction that ever needs to be made. Its existence makes it unique.
The SS vehicles are currently holding an amazing re-sale book. Very low mileage cars are bringing what they sold for new. All years 2014 thru 2017. My 2015, bought new, cost me $38K, being bought on a 25% ,GM weekend incentive. The car has12K mileage and will bring $45,000. The cars, kept in like new condition with no mods, are becoming investment grade collectables. That is where your value lies, not in becoming a clone of millions of Holden Commodores.
I totally hear you bro I wish I would have done the paint protection to my Pontiac GTO back when I purchased it in May 2007.
I still have under 40,000 miles on my 2006
Spice red GTO.
At least I already have most of my HSV conversion parts for the interior now I have to get all the exterior HSV parts as well.
MY 2006 was modified That LS2 had 500 plus HP loved it.
Would you prefer Chevy ss over Cts-v 2011 if you get the same price!??
I would have to drive one to be sure, I have only ridden in one. That being said, if I am shopping for a CTS v, I would prefer a CTS V wagon for the cool factor personally lol. If I had to choose only one, I would still choose the Holden.
There so many videos on dudes saying why not to buy and all this bullshit but none of them ever owned one lol at least you actually owned one and can tel the truth about it and not grabbing shit from google and other vids like these other dueds
lol thanks! I appreciate the comment, thanks for checking out the video.
I know I'm late here but just ordered one of my own. Thanks for the tips, definitely want holden badging and to replace all the chrome first..
Great channel can you do a video of you driving the ss in manual mode 👍
Thanks! ua-cam.com/video/bIKeVr_mYjI/v-deo.html
Here in Australia we laugh at the people who put the Chevy badge on the Holden’s cuz they are posers I got my wife a vy spac sedan the first thing I did before it was allowed in my driveway was tore those Chevy badges straight off
How much is the Holden conversion?
We're All Thieves Really depends on where you shop and what sales there may or may not be, and what’s in stock. I list some places to source your Holden stuff here with links in the description section: ua-cam.com/video/Un1jvEYIVos/v-deo.html
Got mine via maverick man carbon. Black out front kit, holden grill, holden rear badge, 4 badges for wheels and 2 ls3 badges...900 to 1k. Black Trim for windows is 400-600. Red SS has a 3M vinyl video to do chrome delete on door handles already for cheap- $15. Check holden parts USA and Carid as well. Ask about other adds if u want those as well here and I'll try my best.
Oh and friendly tip, if u want to keep SS badges over the Ls3 on front/rear, just LIGHTLY heat white gerber and slowly get a corner going. Under the white gerber is black gerber. Don't overheat or both come off. Light hairdryer and a plastic scraper to slowly tug that initial corner. Fold it back after its started, cool it, and slowly remove. Now you have black SS badging for free
I forgot, the 900-1k conversion in comment #1 includes the blacked out side vents
Great video, I agree with all your points.. except the Holden conversion i actually like my bowties. To each their own though. I would suggest anyone looking for an SS to join the FB SS classified group and join the SS forums.
Saw Eric's comment after posting
Appreciate the feedback and input!
Did you replace the mag ride? If so with what?
Replaced the rears, stayed with mag ride, I like them. Fronts are still original.
Is parts hard to find?
I heard some parts can be hard to find, depends on what and when. Last I heard was exterior parts and panels were hard to come by.
Armin the more I watch you and that RedSS the more I want to get one, just tell me have you had any problems in the snow my TBSS is RWD so maybe it wouldn't be too bad ?
The very few times I’ve driven it in snow it’s been fine with good all season tires.
If you plan on driving it in the snow put some snow tires on it and it will be fine.
Do the front seats have side bolsters for lateral support
Yes, but to me they’re just comfortable normal seats to me. Nothing aggressive to hold you in tight in the corners like a sports car.
I feel that the current SS's for sale are from the ppl that bought them during the 20% off sales that Chevy had.
And now making a profit off of the car. Or either having kids or getting laid off and can't afford the payments.
But this SS is currently for sale at $44k
ua-cam.com/video/VkeJh8_hnv0/v-deo.html
I just got my SS tuned earlier today. And SWEET JESUS, THE CAR SOUNDS LIKE A ANGRY LUMBER JACK WITH A PISSED OFF CHAIN SAW!!!
But I can say that I'm truly going to hold on to her. I'm not sure how many SS's are left after hurricane's Harvey, and Michael. And also the ones that have been totaled in wrecks. But my 16 SS is truly too special to sale or trade!!!
I suggest test driving both the auto and manual before buying, instead of regretting later that you didn't at least try the manual.
or just skip the crummy GM auto and get the Tremec
Naw, what makes it special is it looks like a shitbox malibu. I won't change that I don't like attention.
Make sure it’s a manual
Thanks so much for your passion and loyalty to a great Aussie car..Love your videos ,they are exceptional .. You might enjoy this too .Seven FGX Falcons and one FG Falcon ...This is the car that the VF Commodore (Chevy SS) was up against and this vid features our most famous racetrack that you'll see up close . Hope you enjoy ..ua-cam.com/video/ZZfzxl4vB_4/v-deo.html...Cheers to you ..
Interior silver/ chrome blackout kit. Mandatory, cuts down on the glare while driving dramatically.
100% agree! I did that a little over a year ago, less glare for sure 👍🏼
In the market for one now. I probably wouldn’t do the badge conversion but I would probably debadge it.
Awesome, have fun SS shopping! 🚗💨💨
God I wish I had put film on the front of mine. 55k miles of highway driving and the front is covered in chips.
I think I am going to start saving up for a paint job! $$$$
I've been thinking about it too. Seems like it would be pricey though.
Get a Manual 🕹
1. Never sell it.
I agree, hope to keep it many more years!
IMO 9/10 SS owners do the Holden Theme plus people still have a hard time recognizing a Chevy SS w/o The Holden conversion... Didn't they only make like 12,000 SS total 3,000/year? That makes the SS a 4-door Unicorn, I've only seen maybe 5-6 SS including the one my brother just picked up recently(First LS car and is already talking about doing a LSA/Nitrous build haha) . I think the SS will hold it's value over time, nothing better than a LS3 Powered 4,000lb Sedan... Keep up the good work and shout out from Dallas, Texas
Somewhere between 12-13000 units, definitely a low production run for the US. Cool that your brother got one, he will enjoy that LSA build lol. Thanks for checking out the video/channel, appreciate the comment!
Has anyone done the Holden MyLink update? If so, is it easy? Any links on how to do it? I've seen a few people on youtube who have done it but didn't say how they did it.
Great question. I’ve seen one SS owner on UA-cam who was on a dyno (I think in NY) and noticed his MyLink screen was the Holden version! Someone mentioned that it’s possible, but not sure of the process or cost.
Yea that Is 1 thing I hate the paint is so soft
Did you guys only get sedans? No wagons or utes. Wagons lowered look awesome 👏
We only got the sedans, I would’ve loved to have the wagon option for the family!
I agree with 2 of the three. Mod the hell out of the car (I'm at 662 RWHP on my '17 M6 SS and want more). PPF yes! Keep the bowtie! (the car is rare and let the power mods draw the attention not the stinking badges) ua-cam.com/video/VqomZQMZQCQ/v-deo.html
662! That’s badass!! Thanks for the comment!
Yew! ua-cam.com/video/iUjKTZY_pL8/v-deo.html here's my VU SS
True Holden is right hand drive. A bit redundant....Badge your SS...a Holden.? Why....
I did it to pay tribute to the Australians that designed and built the cars, even the left hand drive. I like sharing some of the Holden story about the car since I get questions about it once in a while.
@@RedSS Should get the series 2 bonnet vents for the commie. Here in Australia I own an MY16 Series 2 VF SSV REDLINE. Nice beautiful bonnet vents. I did put the chevy bowtie on the back because I love the chevy badge on the rear but front looks off. Not sure if it’s just me living here in Australia all my life, but certainly not my forte!
Is there anywhere to get a better looking hood?
The ones I’ve seen on owners cars were custom fabricated or special ordered from Australian sellers and Holden dealers.
People need to stop saying “no advertising” THE CAR WAS HEAVILY ADVERTISED IN NASCAR UGHHHH
Let some fool buy it brand new.Wait a few years later get it for the cheap.
Now that all the new ones sold out a while back they’re definitely a little cheaper used since production ended in Australia back in 2017. Low mileage ones are on the market for as high as the mid 30’s, some a little higher if it’s a manual. Markets change though.
@@RedSS Your right.Could you imagine how you would feel to buy this car north of 50 grand? To buy this car a few years later at 35 grand is a bargain.Same for an ATS-V.
Bought mine new in Nov 17 for $38k. Chevy dlr just wanted it off the books so I was fortunate. Black, auto, no sunroof tho - that's the most basic package. But here's the thing...1 owner, me. It's never bad buying new, it's always better doing so at the end of the year and even better at the end of an iteration.
@@TheStillaplaya I'm looking at a 2016 silver with no sunroof. Seems like 95% of them have a sunroof. I was shocked when I noticed it didn't have one.
@@Mac_DNH yea I'm in that 5% lol
