i've always been more of a beth than a jo, yet i couldn't help but fall head over heels for her character, both her flaws and her best qualities. many people i've talked with immediately described her as strong, but somehow she always gave me a sense of sadness. after all she, like beth, never really wanted to grow up and leave childhood behind. the video turned out even sadder than i thought it would - it must have been good ol' ramin djawadi - but i still tried to convey hope and warmth at the end: jo, after all, will always find comfort in her family, even though her sisters have married. they all still love her. yup, i'm a little ball of emotion.

Jo march from the books deserved more than a 40year old professor, she deserved more than a husband, she deserved fame and travel and success

Yes, she did deserve all of that. But Louisa's editor did not think so. She wanted Jo to have all of those things, but the editor (a man) thought that an unmarried heroine would spoil sales. So as an act of rebellion, Louisa made Jo marry someone far older than her. But, I must say, she wouldn't have fit with anyone else. She was an old soul and deserved her own. Laurie was too boyish for her. She really needed a man.

@@returnoftheromans6726she needed to be great and successful, not a man

This is art. Every part of it absolutely beautiful and painful. Poignant would be the word, I think. It seems Beth is the most rare sister for people to identify with most strongly so I was curious when I read your description. If I may ask, why do you feel you’re most like Beth?

thank you, thank you so much for your kind words :,) to answer your question, i am a really quiet and reserved person, shy, really close with my family, i tend to put others' feelings before my own, but with art - like beth with the piano - i absolutely catch fire, and i'd do anything for my family and my friends. so yeah, i always identified with her, more than to traditionalist meg, spitfire jo, or confident amy

THE SPEECh. The way you took that speech at the end and the MUSIC, and the implications. Loved it.

I think I’m a mix between jo and Amy and Beth like jo I write, I am very feminist and I also get angry to the point where I could enjoy someone’s pain that I caused, like Amy I want to be in love, I’m sweet but I don’t let people walk over me, and like Beth I tend to befriend my family instead of others and sometimes I can be a bit introverted

I hate this music so much and yet I love it! It gives off the energy of: executions happening to innocent people, witch hunts, the death of humanity etc! There’s such an anxiety in it and I don’t think it entirely fits this movie. However I think it can highlight how much anxiety Jo Feels over everyone she loves leaving her eventually
