Ehm no i don't think so, he loved her differently but this doesn't mean he doesn't, Jo was his first love and it's normal if he still loves her and she'll always own a part in his heart. But he loves Amy too, she is his wife and his family, don't bring those two down only because you prefer Jo or because they have more chemistry. I mean, i shipped jo and laurie too but i don't minimize laurie's love for Amy just for that
somewhat controversial to some, I am glad how Louisa May Alcott wrote this, it was childish infatuation then love on Laurie’s part, but she never loved him - she preferred to be loved, as she states in the film when her mother asked if she loves him, which makes it clear she didn’t love him romantically but as a companion and they are platonic soulmates in my opinion. I understand how some would ship them though, perhaps as I have grown up knowing the story I never thought differently but after watching this adaption it made it all clearer and i love the way they adapted it 💓
I think people who ship Laurie and Jo (in the book and in this adaptation, particularly) are getting carried away with the "best friends to lovers" trope, which don't get me wrong, is a great trope -- when the two best friends are actually compatible. Louisa and Greta both did an incredible job of portraying all the ways two people can love each other and not be in love with each other. Laurie understands that he loved all the things Jo was when he was a boy. What boy with as free a spirit and androgynous a personality (particularly during the times) wouldn't love Jo, who so flouted all societal and gender representations in ways that he admired. But the reality is the boy Laurie loved Jo and the man Laurie truly does love Amy. They show how well-suited Amy and Laurie are for each other. They disagree but it doesn't dissolve into a tantrum between two children the way it does with Jo. She challenges him and he listens, not to somehow earn her love as he does with Jo, but because he sees the merit in it, and values her good opinion. In turn, Laurie encourages her to pursue her dreams, and not sacrifice them for the sake of family or good sense. They balance each other. And as Greta pointed out, and Timothee and Florence do a great job of portraying, they desire each other. I went into this film fully-prepared to ship Jo/Laurie (1994 film did not do a good job of showing why Jo/Laurie wouldn't have been good for each other, in my opinion or why we should root for Amy/Laurie), but it was beautifully done in this version.
@@SiriuslyPotty I haven't seen this version; I love the 1994 version and agree that it shows why Laurie and Jo don't work romantically but are great friends. There was a PBS version released a few years before this that I think did a good job of showing this as well and how Amy and Laurie end up working. Amy grew up and matured a lot, in the movies and the book. She originally got on my nerves, but I liked the Amy she became. I always liked Jo as well and that she was such a different heroine than the norm for the time period. Louisa May Alcott was ahead of her time, much like Jane Austen was as well. The books also do a good job of showing how Jo and Friedrich end up being a good match, and the movies I have seen do a good job as well.
@@egdg20 Totally agree. I identify with Jo, but Amy is my favourite character. I admire her so much, and I do think she and Jo complement each other whilst also being foils to each other. They had the same desires: to be greater than what society and its mores expected or allowed. Of course, Amy is derailed from that pursuit when the burden of providing for her family is placed on her shoulders. But ultimately, their ambitions were very similar, only they went about pursuing them in a different manner. Jo decided to flout the system, Amy chose to work the system. Whilst I believe I would do the former, I admire Amy just as much for doing the latter. Some would say she chose the path that allowed her to achieve her goals more successfully than Jo. It's the reason so many people say Amy gets handed everything that should be Jo's. But Amy got chosen for the Paris trip because she understood catering to and caring for Aunt March. And so on.

Dam this movie hit hard, Jo thinks it’s not right for people to think that love is only for woman’s use. But deep inside she just lonely, I get her but the person she was looking for was meant to be in front of her trying to tell her that he really has feelings for her but instead she turns him down too quickly. I felt so bad for Laurie as he was trying to show/tell Jo that he loved her for so long but I guess Jo only saw him as a friend. But in the movie when Amy was little you could see that she liked Laurie but in the beginning of the movie it was just focussing on Jo and Laurie, Laurie had love for Jo but grew a much stronger love for Amy. Laurie didn’t choose to love Amy because he didn’t get Jo he did it because he loved her but at first Amy didn’t want to be the person Laurie would settle for because she has been second to Jo all her life and wanted to find a love not based on a relationship like that, but to find someone she really loved. This is my favourite movie, I’m glad that I finally watched it..
you can literally hear Jo's heart breaks into million pieces when Laurie said he loves Amy(I hate to say it but I don't think Laurie loves Amy as much as he loved Jo) because it was at that moment she finally understood what is really like to actually love your soulmate as much as they love you which is the reason she rejected Laurie's proposal when she couldn't possibly understand what true love is and how much a broken heart can hurt? And now she knows, but it's too late. Her pride got in the way of her asking Laurie to propose to her again in person instead of confessing her true feeling in a letter that Laurie might be too heartbroken to read.
Jo was never in love with Laurie... she loved him but wasn't in love. She only regrets not marrying him when she finds her writing dreams set back and finds herself alone with nothing. It wasn't her pride that got in the way, it was the realisation that it would have been cruel to try and take Laurie away from a newfound love when she herself still wasn't in love with him. What she had stated when Laurie proposed was 100% true, aside from their feelings they wanted completely different things out of life. If Jo had known that Laurie had falled in love with Amy she wouldn't have ever written that letter.
They totally deserved better, it was really heartbreaking. Why he married with her sister? And Amy is accept that, ı am sorry but she is very selfish... I was really want they'd be together, but they couldn't. Everything was so realistic. Because we all of us know we can late for something and we can't go past, we have to face it with that. But after all this things Amy and Laurie ughh. He loved her, it was too early. and she loved him, it was too late...

I first believed Jo and Laurie were destined to be together but then I think Laurie and Amy make sense and it shows that even though you may have people who better match you, things always happen for a reason. Saying this though, I was crying so hard and if I had my way Laurie and Jo would be together.
When I read the book, I thought they were made for each other. He respected her talent and had always supported her. He was a cultured, mentally stimulating person who attended college and loved the arts, like her. He was there when she needed it. The writer introduced Amy and Friederich to shuffle the cards, but Laurie was the main male character throughout the book and he was there for Jo, not the other sisters. He was perfect for her. To make the book more modern, Alcott had decided to leave Jo single and could have done so, recounting the girl's success and literary career for a few years and making them fall in love with each other later in time. We saw a similar nonsense with the story of Harry Potter and Hermione. The change of partners was considered wrong by the writer herself, who later realized the error.

As someone who is experienced being in jo’s shoes. It has more to do with being a platonic soulmate rather then it being the more popular romantic soulmate as its often depicted. Laurie changed parts of himself to fit into what jo would have wanted. Both are able to bounce off eachother in a playful manner but differing in goals and values which is very important in a intimate partnership and thats is what Amy and Laurie had, not the all consuming passionate love but a stable, kind and accepting kind of love. Im just hoping if any of this makes sense but those are my thoughts.
The thing I don't understand is if he loved her so much how could he get over her in like a month he's loved her for years and all the sudden gets over her?? Guys, read the book, Jo never loved Laurie. She saw him as a brother, as a best friend. Laurie and Amy and Jo and Bhaer. Laurie and Jo are similar, they are both a little bit "rebellious" so yes, Jo is right, it would be a disaster. In the book Jo's mother said the same thing. P. S sorry for bad English :')
This movie breaks my heart every time I think about it and makes me not want to watch it again because it hurts to see that a beautiful couple didn't end up together. I think it's close to real life. In our lives, we usually don't end up with our first love.
For all those people blaming Amy cause they didn't ended up together. Jo didn't loved Laurie back, she said so, he got over it, found someone who did love him, fall in love with her, they got married and had a child. Amy loved someone who loved her too, Jo said many reasons why they wouldn't work, and Amy wasn't one of them. Jo didn't want a future with him, and that's fine, she wanted to focus on her career. And even though they were pretty cute, i was happy that Laurie married Amy, she loved him as a husband, Jo loved him as a brother. Best video about this: ua-cam.com/video/mQs6pa7xY6o/v-deo.html
I tjink they were each other's biggest love. But some thing cannot by undo and Laurie was right about Jo. She wanted to be loved and he knew someday he would be watching her marry somebody else. He was broken when Amy met him after 7 years. He still loved Jo. And, of course, he somehow fell in love with Amy because she was easy to be loved by anyone. Jo was difficult. And also Jo realized that she loved him too late. And here we have professor. He was kind, accepted her for who she was. He was good choice. He was her friend. He made her happy. But for me she looked happier with Teddy. Jo and Laurie loved Amy and professor but not as much as each other. This was bittersweet ending which somehow break my heart. But I am glad their friendship survive.
I really cried with the whole movie, I don't know why, it's so sentimental, every part of it makes me feel like it's me and for this I want, no, I need the book, maybe I'll cry more, but that's okay.
It’s sad because Laurie and Jo really were perfect for each other. It was just right person, wrong time. And Jo misunderstood Laurie’s love early on, denying him. Obviously IK Amy and Laurie do love each other and I support them, but Jo and Laurie will always be soulmates. ):
theyre soulmates platonically i think. But romantically they wouldve been a disaster as jo said, later on laurie agreed with her. I think falling for amy opened his heart to a kind of love he hadnt experienced before, and that's why he was able to understand that his feelings for jo werent meant to be forever, and they were best friends at heart
I wanna take you somewhere so you know I care But it's so cold and I don't know where I brought you daffodils in a pretty string But they won't flower like they did last spring And I wanna kiss you, make you feel alright I'm just so tired to share my nights I wanna cry and I wanna love But all my tears have been used up On another love, another love All my tears have been used up On another love, another love All my tears have been used up On another love, another love All my tears have been used up Oh oh Oh oh oh oh oh oh Oh oh oh oh oh oh And if somebody hurts you, I wanna fight But my hand's been broken, one too many times So I'll use my voice, I'll be so fucking rude Words they always win, but I know I'll lose And I'd sing a song, that'd be just ours But I sang 'em all to another heart And I wanna cry, I wanna learn to love But all my tears have been used up On another love, another love All my tears have been used up On another love, another love All my tears have been used up On another love, another love All my tears have been used up Oh oh I wanna sing a song, that'd be just ours But I sang 'em all to another heart And I wanna cry, I wanna fall in love But all my tears have been used up On another love, another love All my tears have been used up On another love, another love All my tears have been used up On another love, another love All my tears have been used up oh oh, oh
I think maybe, when you grow up, you learn to love differently and the power of those young emotions and passion turn into a more rational love that honestly, will make a couple last forever. Joe won't have half of the fun he had with Laurie with the other writer and Laurie won't feel for Amy what he felt for Jo. But the people they end up with are the right people to help them grow❤
Lol dude first read book she never loved him like lover but just like her friend but he really love her but still this book is sweet rollercoaster some time happiness some time grief some time immense heart broken still my first favorite book❤
Everyone always thinks Amy is the best but until you've been in a situation like Jo, you can't understand. You can never understand the constant pain. Just seeing them physically hurts your heart.
It's all rather explicitly shown and stated in the movie but for the record Amy was the most compatible with Laurie the same way Friedrich was for Jo. Amy was a 12 year old brat when they met so of course Laurie didn't look at her twice. But when they met in Paris she was the perfect, strong, confident lady of High Society that Laurie wanted to marry and he fell in love with her. This doesn't mean he didn't love Jo, he did and always would but they weren't meant to be. For one because Jo was never in love with him and second because what they wanted in life was so different. Laurie wanted a Lady. He wanted a wife who would be by his side at balls and partake in the usual high society events, so the direct opposite of Jo. Jo wanted freedom and independence. She had no intention of marrying a man to take care of her family but instead wanted to work herself. They both found better matches. Jo and Laurie would have never worked because aside from the feelings for each other they wanted completely different things. If they had gotten together they would have had to sacrifice too much and would have ended up miserable. Laurie was ready to do so because he loved Jo that much but the outcome would have still been the same because continual sacrifice makes people miserable and resentful. Jo wouldn't have been the Lady of high society that Laurie wanted as a wife, her character and ambition was too strong. As such, Laurie would have had to give up that part of his perfect vision for life. He didn't share Jo's passion for writing and as such would have never truly understood it. Jo regrets not marrying Laurie when she finds herself alone and her writing dream set back. In her desperation she realised that marrying her best friend who was completely in love with her wasn't such a bad thing but she was never in love with Laurie. She fell in love with Friedrich who shared her same passion for literature and enjoyed the same informal social circles. People who don't understand this need to rewatch the movie.

i always thought it was weird that she married a guy who she knew loved her sister…like she literally saw the intimacy of their relationship and how they demonstrated them being twin flames or soulmates and how much they really love each other and just was okay with marrying Laurie? And likewise with Laurie cus that’s jo little sister that he saw grow up? That’s weird and Laurie fs would have left Amy for Jo if he’d seen that letter. Regardless of what ppl say, jo had some romantic feelings for Laurie! Their families expected it too so there was something fs so yes they deserve to be together. And in the end, jo always will hold a special place in his heart
We say always same things... Jo and Laurie are platonic soulmates and bla bla bla... Laurie ends up with Amy because he matures and bla bla bla (but he stayed in Europe almost 4 years... too much? 🤔🤔🤔 and he fall in love with Amy in 2 chapters? 🙁🙁🙁 ) and Jo ends up with Friedrich "Fritz" Baher and bla bla bla... (she met Laurie that came back from Europe and in her heart there were a lot of feeling and Baher knocked on the door and Jo changed in a minute? 😕😕)... Ok! We accept the end of the novel, of movie, etc. But Alcott closed too fast the storyline... At the end... in my opinion... Jo and Laurie deserved a chance... There had to be a possibility... a chance for them...

If Jo had known that Laurie had falled in love with Amy she wouldn't have ever written that letter.
im pretty sure he’s still love jo, the way he looks into jo still same, and when he looks at amy, thats totally different

@@leylacelik2734 Türksün sanırım, bende öyle. Film ciddi anlamda trajikti. Amy'nin yaptığı bencillikti, Laurie'nin Jo'yu sevdiğini bile bile teklifini kabul etti. Jo ise henüz hislerini anlayabilmişken karşılaştığı durumda afalladı, cidden çok garipti ama o kadar içime işledi ki... 🥺

If Laurie got her note...😌
Yes
But he didn’t 😔
I still can't get over it, made me cry alot. The more I watch this movie the more it breaks me. And this edit is so good.

@@anniereader she was promised that she was going to Europe so that she could take care of Aunt March and Aunt March had promised her that’s why Jo worked hard for months so that Aunt March would think she was good at caring and promise her the trip. Amy only went for a week hardly did any hard work and *stole* the trip and she stole Laurie because after Jo denied Lauries proposal she told *all* her sisters that she still loved him(She may not have my memory is blurry but Amy knew as the author had said later on) Amy accepted Laurie when she knew Jo and Laurie were still in love
She never loved him that way sadly, and then when he was in paris she felt so alone so she wanted him back. Her mother asked her twice if she loved him but she only said she was loonely and she wanted to be loved. I was sorry for Laurie, but then he found Amy who loved him more than anyone, idk why people hates her so much. I know there is more chemistry between Jo and Laurie but he deserved better and Jo deserved to be with someone who she truly loves and not just bc she is alone.

Thank God I had read the book and knew this ship would never sail :'( but I gotta say, these two lovely actors have an incredible amount of chemistry between them.

I still don't understand how jo didn't fall in love with laurie when she was happy when she was with him and everyone realized that laurie was in love with jo even her and it's incredible how jo missed the opportunity to be happy with laurie
She was to entitled to be the feminist and individual female she saw her self never marrying when Megan was getting married she thought it was a waste of time but she realised it wasn’t to late I’d rather her be single then end up with the french professor dude it was annoying
Im just hoping if any of this makes sense but those are my thoughts.
beautiful!!
The thing I don't understand is if he loved her so much how could he get over her in like a month he's loved her for years and all the sudden gets over her?? And how could he fall for her sister so soon like not even a month later and he's engaged to her sister and yes in my opinion they where soulmats she had the cutest nicknname for him teddy I just don't understand how he could move on so fast he shouldn't have gave up on her they where so cute together he loved her to early and she loved him to late who ever made this movie I'm a sue because they were soulmats
that was 7 years later lol wdym

I wanna be loved the same way Laurie loves Jo. And not the way Laurie love Amy because these two together, it just didn't felt right. Jo and Laurie are meant to be.

This movie breaks my heart every time I think about it and makes me not want to watch it again because it hurts to see that a beautiful couple didn't end up together. I think it's close to real life. In our lives, we usually don't end up with our first love.
that letter would have changed everything...
Amy loves Laurie, Laurie loves Jo, Jo loves freedom, that's all
i really wanted them to get married
For all those people blaming Amy cause they didn't ended up together. Jo didn't loved Laurie back, she said so, he got over it, found someone who did love him, fall in love with her, they got married and had a child. Amy loved someone who loved her too, Jo said many reasons why they wouldn't work, and Amy wasn't one of them. Jo didn't want a future with him, and that's fine, she wanted to focus on her career. And even though they were pretty cute, i was happy that Laurie married Amy, she loved him as a husband, Jo loved him as a brother.

Is there really a Laurie out there for me? 😭😭
There is, someday he'll be there
I tjink they were each other's biggest love.

Obviously IK Amy and Laurie do love each other and I support them, but Jo and Laurie will always be soulmates. ):
What is the name of the movie and where can I watch it please
theyre soulmates platonically i think. But romantically they wouldve been a disaster as jo said, later on laurie agreed with her. I think falling for amy opened his heart to a kind of love he hadnt experienced before, and that's why he was able to understand that his feelings for jo werent meant to be forever, and they were best friends at heart
I wanna take you somewhere so you know I care
But it's so cold and I don't know where
I brought you daffodils in a pretty string
But they won't flower like they did last spring
And I wanna kiss you, make you feel alright
I'm just so tired to share my nights
I wanna cry and I wanna love
But all my tears have been used up
On another love, another love
All my tears have been used up
On another love, another love
All my tears have been used up
On another love, another love
All my tears have been used up
Oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
And if somebody hurts you, I wanna fight
But my hand's been broken, one too many times
So I'll use my voice, I'll be so fucking rude
Words they always win, but I know I'll lose
And I'd sing a song, that'd be just ours
But I sang 'em all to another heart
And I wanna cry, I wanna learn to love
But all my tears have been used up
On another love, another love
All my tears have been used up
On another love, another love
All my tears have been used up
On another love, another love
All my tears have been used up

They are my "not all soulmates end up together ship".
I've been in a situation like Laurie before when he loved Jo. It really, really hurts not to be loved in the same way😭😭😭
in my head they end up togheter
I think maybe, when you grow up, you learn to love differently and the power of those young emotions and passion turn into a more rational love that honestly, will make a couple last forever. Joe won't have half of the fun he had with Laurie with the other writer and Laurie won't feel for Amy what he felt for Jo. But the people they end up with are the right people to help them grow❤

Louis Garrel' smile is just wow
People who don't understand this need to rewatch the movie.
i think that film last scene so so terrible ever had jo and laurie they are real couple i am so sad :(

It broke my heart they weren't together 💔
i always thought it was weird that she married a guy who she knew loved her sister…like she literally saw the intimacy of their relationship and how they demonstrated them being twin flames or soulmates and how much they really love each other and just was okay with marrying Laurie?
