I love the image of Bruce listening to Dr. Strange psychoanalyze him and muttering to himself: "this fucking bullshit, what does he know? Does he have five degrees? I have five degrees"
Strange: Joke's on him I have a mannequin who loves me.
Unfortunately for Bruce, none of those degrees were in psychology
All of the stuff Strange got wrong is because of his ego. He saw Batman as a genius like him so as time go on he inject more & more of himself in to Batman psychology profile. To be honest if Strange wasn't insane, he might have figured out who Batman is by the midway point
Congratulations to Hugo Strange for making his Back Issues debut! Only took 10 years, but he got there!
they need to do monster men at some point
This episode confirms that Sal’s new favorite word is “Edging”
vengeance edging!
Another button added to the soundboard.
@@chrisdaily2077Where can I find this Sal soundboard?
I have always liked when they imply or out right state Jim knows who Batman is and never confronts or questions him about not only for legal reasons and plausible deniability but also out of respect. The best stories always show how Gordon is a REALLY good detective
To be fair though, I would argue Batman has the easiest secret identity to discover.
@@chrisdaily2077right. He’s either a wealthy billionaire, or he’s being bankrolled by one. Oh hey, did y’all ever notice Bruce Wayne disappears from the public eye right around year one?
@@MrAcethesecondyea bit from the perspective of any random citizen saying batman is Bruce wayne is like saying Kim Kardashian is the secret identity of wonder woman
@@MrAcethesecondThat's what I like about The Batman (2022). It establishes that Bruce Wayne hasn't been in the public eyes basically ever since his parents were murdered, so Batman suddenly showing up doesn't look as suspicious.
"Batman shouldve let the baby die"
What a quote to end the year on lmao
We desperately need more classic batman and spiderman stories back issues from the late 80s and early 90s
Hugo Strange works best as an early year big bad!
Love a lot of ideas media has given him the past couple of years:
1) Making him Jonathan Crane/ Scarecrow's mentor (Audio Adventures/ Batman 89 Echoes)
2) Giving inexperienced Harleen Quinzel access to analyse the Joker (Harleen)
3) More interested in discovering how the criminal mind works than actually helping to cure the inmates (Arkham City/ The Batman)
4) Ties to Amanda Waller and the Court of Owls (JLU/ Gotham)
Additional twist for later of his mentor being dr hurt
If I had a nickel for every Batman villain who was romantically involved with a mannequin, I'd have two nickels which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.
Poor Clayface 3
😂Nice pull.
I think it's weird that it doesn't happen more
There's also a guy in the Friday the 13th remake who banged a mannequin. I don't know what that has to do with anything, I just wanna see Batman fight Jason.
And both end up hitting it so hard the head flew off
Casually Comics covered the cursed panel that was in this story, it was pretty good.
Good for her.
28:10 Ethan's "Oh boy" for awful comic book moments is an underappreciated Comicpop bit. It's not "That's not how that works" level but I love it.
How about doing the four-parter "The Penguin Affair" which brings us the origin story of the Comicpop crew's favorite character: Harold the mute Hunback of the Batcave?
Was WAITING for one of you to call "Night Scourge" "Night Court" . Took surprisingly long😂
This one may have had relations with some plastic, but maybe Gotham will have luck with the next psychiatrist that comes to town.
"Harleen Quinzel"? Oh, she sounds fun.
Ooh how about Jonathan Crane? He sounds fun.
No... just... No... .
Ethan was on fire today with the mannequin talking back and the boombox for gordon 😂
I love that the longer this goes on us the audience and Ben and Ethan as our surrogates know more and more of this history and knowledge built into our context for every story. Beautiful part of how long this shows been running and will 💜
Im only a third into the video and i gotta say i love it when Ethan says "Oh boy" with that downward inflection. Priceless. Lol😂😂😂😂
The only thing that Arkham City was missing was Hugo Strange wearing a batsuit. Missed opportunity.
There is a moment in one of the interview tapes that riddler says he was spying on Hugo and he knows that he keeps a batsuit in his closet lol.
I could see Hugo as a villain in The Batman (alongside a Scarecrow or Hush) or even as a head of Arkham for the Arkham series, slowly building him as a background side villain
He was a villain in The Batman, he was great in it.
Hugo Strange would be perfect for The Batman II. Robert Pattinson's Bruce Wayne strikes me as more unstable than any previous live-action Batman (excluding the fact that Keaton and Affleck murdered people, of course) so Strange has great antagonist potential for that version.
I just rolled a blunt at frickin 11:30 and was blessed with a comic pop video. GOD IS REAL APPARENTLY
I love how Sal narrates I can visualise with my eyes closed. Satire & comedy extra bonus.
ALRIGHT Arkham City and 40's Batman did NOT prepare me for the Hugo Strange of this story. This is a honestly a very chilling and creepy take on the character and was kinda great as a "villain you totally hate"
Last I saw, he was just a dude making Monster Men
I know! I didn’t realize Hugo was so perverted lol.
@@JokerFan-hj4iv adds a level of authentic darkness to his character. You see how he treats women and it's terrible but the real horror is that people like that are out there in a way that "mad scientists" are not
Batman Prey is one of my favorite Batman stories. Love the story, love the year one setting, and love the art and colors.
From Batman/Punisher to Batman: Prey, 2023 has been quite a ride. Here's hoping for more indie books outside the Big 2 (or 3, including Image) in 2024!🥳
I want more invincible and Radiant Black. I'm legitimately surprised they haven't tried to capitalize on the popularity of invincible.
@@SamuelSummers5I think Sal stopped liking the book after a certain point and we know he doesn't like the show (can't say I can blame him for either).
@@joshheralal8758 Personally, I love the show but it's always important to play into the UA-cam algorithms. Grow the show at all costs.
I think the "problem" with indie books is there’s no connections. And in most cases you’re probably robbing them off a sale unless they’re real long runners with multiple volumes.
The best part of Christmas Break is being able to watch these as soon as they come out, guilt free!
I've started digging into post-crisis Batman and its been so refreshing to read. This one has been on my to-read list for a little while.
Years I've been watching these guys, and they still manage to make an instant classic episode I know i'm gonna be watching again and again for years more to come, ComicPop can't be beat!
Completely unrelated to this, but have you guys considered doing a Back Issues on Power Girl?
So, Court becomes a vigilante of the night?
So he's some sort of...Night Court?
Okay, just got to 1:26:30
Even Sal was thinking it 😂
The inking in this is so good!
Loved this episode! This is going to be a repeat watch for sure!
I wonder if they’ll cover Batman: The Imposter someday. It’s definitely a new favorite of mine
46:41 Sal goes Good Will hunting on Ethan hahahahha, it was good timing though
Now, if I remember correctly, Arkham City took a lot of inspiration from this book, at least with their interpretation of Hugo Strange
This is one of my favorite Batman comics! And its sequel, “Terror.” Guilty pleasure? Fun weird story, hit or miss art. But I do enjoy the obvious Michael Keaton Batman influence. So excited to see you guys doing this one. Thanks!!
batman vs hugo strange in my opinion works as more of a psychological villian in my opinion.
I once asked J.M. Dematteis how to pronounce Moench, to which he replied, and I quote, "My understanding is that his last name is pronounced MUNCH."
The pronunciation was later confirmed by Jim Starlin and Roy Thomas.
I’m surprised there is a Batman book called Prey, and it’s not related to the universe where Batman become a priest… that art is super underrated
A gummy bear? Bouncing here and there and everywhere?
Nice, can't wait for the reactions to the mannequin
I’ll need therapy if we don’t get another episode of Harbor Patrol in 2024.
Honestly though another great episode of bat issues!
I remember reading this for the first time and going “oh so Courts gonna be Lock-up?” Then being extremely disappointed and confused
LMAO! @27:40 Hugo almost falling out of the window. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
"We don't know if it's a nipple, she might have a gummy bear stuck to her chest," might be the funniest thing Ben has said on the couch.
A Prey and Predator 2 reference in one episode, Batman versus Aliens II. I need more AvP on Back Issues
For two back issues this week, there have been also two edging jokes 27:05 just brilliant.
All the good content lately has been the best Christmas/New Year’s gift I could ask for. Comic Pop, thank you for being the best UA-cam channel ever!!!
Double back issues was a great Christmas preset, love you guys and all your hard work!! Merry Christmas ❤️🎄💚

Batmam prey is one of the first graphic novels I ever got in 1992 along with Batman year 2 and Batman vs predator still have them all till this day.
I feel like Hugo Strange might be a breakout character in the gallery of Comicpop's Most Hated Villains this year. He can sit at the table with Pariah and Red Ghost and all of Hydra.
Batman v predator 2, the crow, & gargoyles references... THIS IS THE BEST BACK ISSUES EVAH!!!
Ben- "we don' don't know that's a nipple, she could have a gummy bearstuck to her." BEST LINE OF THE YEAR!!!
It's hilarious that Batman goes from this era to free falling from space 😂😂
I remember reading this when it came out and thinking about the same about Night Scourge, he was ridiculous. And, true, the art was pretty over the top for its time.
Gulacy shreds so hard on this book! Love it!
49:15-“SMOKE BOMB!” When did Krieger show up?
Now I want you guys to just do a whole episode talking about Predator 2
Nightscourge! This guy has Fist of the Northstar energy
It’s like they heard you and said fuck you lol
50:00 I thought discount Shredder when i first saw Night Scourge
58:57 Ben said ACAB
What a great choice for a back issue!!
It's been a great year, I loved all the Elseworlds stuff. I'd love for yall to reduxe Dark Knight Strikes Again and the Superman 78' comic!
Nice! I've been waiting for this one for awhile
This was a fun episode! This story is so unhinged!
Therapy Batman’s greatest enemy
We got edging jokes on back to back episodes…
We’ve been due for a bonkers episode and leave it to Sal to possibly give us the best episode on the last back issues of the yr. Congrats to the crew on 🔥2023 and can’t wait to see what y’all have in store in 24
Gulacy is a great penciler. His Master of Kung Fu stuff is awesome
Hahahaha Sal I love you. They brought back who you said they shouldn’t 😂😂😂 fat Alfred is back hahahaha
What happened!
Can we get a back issues in all the silly adds and posters found in the older comics from the 80's and 90's
Now I want gummy bears.
First thing I thought was Batman Vs Therapy ? The band 😂 lol
I remember the early rumors that Tom Hardy was playing Hugo Strange on The Dark Knight Rises. I would have loved to see Hugo as the big bad in that film for another psychological threat to Bruce but could still be a physical threat. Would have been riding the high of Hugo being the big bad in City. Could of even kept the Talia plot and Hugo was Talia's puppet
Catching up on Back Issues for the New year and was really looking forward to this episode! As fun as this book is, I like Batman & The Monster Men by Matt Wagner more as a follow up to Year One with Hugo as the main villain. Its more entertaining to see an inexperienced Batman face a geniune threat like mutated henchmen than a crazy guy dressed up as a ninja
I really hope you guys do Last Knight on Earth someday!!
if i had a nickel for every back issues this week that had an edging joke i'd have two nickels
My man said Gummi bear 😂😂😂😂
2023 flew by like it was only "for one day"!
Insta like. Great content as always.
Ngl if a story this insane can get it’s own back issues episode, then anything can 😂. I get that Batman is most popular and I dig the character, but would love to see some more classic Superman stories from this time done on the couch.
This would be a great movie.
The best youtube show there is!
Love the show. Hope you guys can cover the humans from image comics please 🙏🏽
Hugo hit the mannequin with a bat because Batman
Please do Inhumans(1998) by jenkins' one day. It's the best Inhumans story.
For a synergy movie cash grab Legends of the Dark Knight had some really great stories in the first couple years. This one, Shaman and Gothic are all must reads for any Batman fan.
Doug Moench has written a lot of weak stories in my opinion, but when he's good, he's usually great.
i usually dont comment but i wasnt expecting a third ep this week . hope yaw enjoy the end of yaw 2023...
Also now I just want to go watch Predator 2 again
I know some of the story because of the mannequin but knowing most of it now it's pretty cool besides the use of women, it's a fun story also Hugo is way better at being the Master of Vengeance and edging
No, if you cure me of my compulsions you kill Batman! NOOOOOO!
Wow, Batman crossed over with the best recent Predator movie? Cool!
If you want women’s exploitation in BATMAN, proceed to LEGEND OF THE DARK KNIGHT: HEAT, another contribution from Moench-scantily-clad ladies galore and the psycho that hates them. Happy New Year, Kidz! 🖖♾
Gat episode, also thank you for the surprise x-mas live video. See u next week, same bat time, same bat channel! This got me excited to see that Knightfall re-do you were talking about
Great story! Read it after beating arkham city back in the day
This book is great!
Now I want to see Hugo Strange and Clayface lll go on a double date.
Gummy Bear. Nuff Said
Bat? Man? Thats so crazy it just might work?
In the early post year one era assuming every Gotham vigilantee works with Batman is weird. In the modern period it's a safe bet
