Been fishing my squall 400 hard in the saltwater for inshore fish. Can't wait till the little tuna and bonito to come around. Wish the fathom version wasn't so damn expensive. I'll buy a 300 when the holidays sales come around.
Idk what you mean by guys in California also primarily using this for bottom fishing. Majority of the use of these style saltwater grade low profile reel like this are used for things like crankbaits swimbaits and other local things like irons and a rigs. Plus I even now some who have used them for live bait.
Been using a Lews Custom Inshore, can't wait to purchase this reel and run it through the salt. I love Abu Garcias and Penn reels. Definitely a Penn fan.
GREAT TO KNOW THANKS! I was torn between the Tranx 200 and PENN Fathom 200 and decided im ordering (from J&H) the PENN. Now I don't have to wonder if I made the right decision. The main purpose of the PENN 200 for me is being able to cast smaller lighter lures that used to require a spinning reel.
Don't know why he said that. The small, light spool combined with the duel brake system and disengaging level wind means CASTING is the #1 reason for this reel. If you're just jigging or bottom fishing any reel can drop down a bait, there is no casting. Im buying a PENN Fathom 200 to cast my smaller, lighter lures (mainly in the surf like you) that my 4600's and 5500 ABU's cannot. Basically lures that once required a spinning reel to cast I can now use a baitcaster!
Being born in Pittsburgh, I was always partial to PENN reels. Unfortunately, what started in Philadelphia is now made in China (with exception of Senator and International) I am considering a Fathom 300. Doesn't matter where they are assembled if the parts are made in China. If I buy a PENN I want an American product. SO WHERE ARE THE PARTS FOR THE FATHOM SERIES MADE?
Why do people displaying new reels, always flick the spool back toward them. Sure it proves it's on bearing, but the real question is weather the brakes are effecting spool rotation while set to the lowest positions. Whether the spool spins is irrelevant. Take an old Penn 3/0 that has bushing, and spin it, go have a coffee, take a dump and come back, and I bet it will still be spinning. Once you break the inertia, a heavier spool is going to take forever to stop spinning.

By us it's bottom fishing. You should be jigging diamond jigs and bucktails with it.

Looks interesting. May need to add it to the arsenal
Thanks for the review bud I asked you about on Instagram and here it is you work fast bud
nice reel, looks smooth
Interesting, looks nice. Guess I need to feel it. Doubt it would replace my LEXA 300 but could always use another jigging real.
Nice reel for next fluke season
Man this looks sleek. Great colors
Seems like it'd be nice on the flats for larger permit and tarpon's
I bet it would be great for the surf and jetty
It throws weightless soft plastics better than my tranx 200 and diawa coastal 150 SV. No bottom fisher😏
Awesome!
GREAT TO KNOW THANKS!

i got a daiwa cc80 just for my first baitcaster about 6 months ago, i plan on getting one of these eventually.
@Angel Martinez saltwater capable though?
You say its mainly used for jigging and bottom fishing, but can i use it from the shore(not on a boat), and cast top water lures with it?
You certainly can.
Need someone to add a flip switch to one of these beefed up saltwater bait casters
I may need to come in and check this one out.
like the look of the fathoms
I’ve always been a Penn and Abu fan. And 24 lbs of drag is awesome. What is the braid capacity? Thanks.
Cool reel. You said its not good for casting what reel that's like this do you recommend for casting plugs on the surf?

Awesome reel 😃
I guess I found my next flukin' reel.
Sweet reel
How much 20lb j braid do you think fits on the 200 / 300. Can't find that spec.
Just bought one waiting for rod
Hi Josh would you compare the 300 fathom to a 300 tranx size wise or what size would you compare it to thanks
Yes i would. Just go by line capacity and physical weight.
Nice reel!!!

SO WHERE ARE THE PARTS FOR THE FATHOM SERIES MADE?
Nice deep spool.
Will they release a different gear ratio? 🤔
All right handed models are available in two different gear ratios. The "leftys" only have one available ratio.

I have two 200 size daiwa reels. I want a 300 size reel. I also need a new rod for my 400 Lexa HD.
Gift card would help.
The Lexa is 🔥
@@stepheno.2730
May need a Muddy River Catfish rod LOL.
@@billmoss5624 kris has plenty in stock right now. I plan on running the new Lexa cc 300 PWR this year on the new mediums!
Kind of cool but the 400 is more my speed.
Thats a revo beast x remarked as a penn reel. Its obvious.
A remarked Toro beast isn’t necessarily a bad thing now to be fair.
Don’t own any baitcasters yet 🤔
i want that giftcard
hope i win
Wait does that sticker say made in Korea???? Since its not China I'm all of a sudden more interested.
Correct, all 18 models of this Low-Profile series are made in Korea.
