She is a classically-trained singer. This is the kind of stuff she used to sing -- before they changed her sound (and hair color - natural blonde) when she entered the music industry. Even though record executives recognized her talent, they thought she didn't stand out enough. She was supposed to be the younger UK version of Christina Aguliera. She didn't dance like Britney. Jessica Simpson had the same problem, which is why she got into t.v. and fashion.

JJ has a beautiful voice. She sings her songs with such feeling and conviction it sometimes makes you forget all other versions of the song.

I first saw her on the voice. She sang master peace with a guy in the finals. She has a beautiful voice but what struck me most was how gracious she was to him. She could have blown him off the stage but didn't. I have been a big fan ever since.

This is lovely but not right for the role. I bet she'd be a kickass Mme Thenardier. There is just a little bit of "pop" that keeps coming through and for something like Les Mis that is out of place.
But again this is marvelous and i love it.

The problem with Jessie J is her identify/image. She is without question, one of the most talented voices in the industry today. That is without question. But she's not glamorous like Whitney, Celine, or Mariah. She's not poppy like Taylor, Katy, Ariana or Demi. She's not R&B like Jennifer Hudson. She almost had a "hard expression" on her face but she's not a rock artist. And when she tries to show a softer side, those hard features of her expressions betray her. In some ways, I love all of these things about her because it makes her unique, only in a category all by herself. But I think that's where listeners/audiences have a hard time connecting with her.
I really don't see her expressions as hard or her image as wrong. She changes her 'look' all the time too. She's stunning looking. I think after being pigeonholed as pop ( when she can nail any genre & writes her own stuff too) by her management, who she diched, she just hasn't found her niche. If she'd had the marketing, PR & backing Adele has had , she'd be at that same level now. Once the public label you it's hard to shake that off.
Neither I see any resemblance of "hard expression". Jessy is lovely. Always.
