I was in India on business at the end of Oct ‘17 and looking for an interesting adventure. After seeing this video several times, I traveled to Kathmandu where I hopped on a tiny plane and flew to Lukla. Took a helicopter flight up by Everest, spent a night in Lukla, then flew back to Kathmandu the next day. Great video - really captures the essence of the place! And luckily I avoided the men’s room, even though I had my own roll in my backpack. As Ryan says at the end - “I love you Nepal”...
Very cooll! Way to make the most out of your trip. Nepal is such a magical place!
In 1982 I hiked 10 days in from Lamasungu after the bus ride from Kathmandu, but decided to fly out of Lukla to get back to Kathmandu. Had enough hiking after another two week trek to Kala Patar and Base Camp. The runway was an unpaved yak pasture. They sounded an alarm as the plane approached and the herders drove the yaks off the runway. Often times the ground was too muddy from melted snow or rain to land or take off. The airport was sometimes closed for days or even weeks. Trekkers had to hike out during these times. It took about 10 days or so of difficult hiking to get to Kathmandu, but if you had a flight out of the country on a certain date, you had no choice.
I had no idea you've done this trip!! Its my #1 bucket list. I have a patients daughter who takes her students there every year and so we've been talking almost daily about Napal.
First time looking at this and didn’t even realize it was 6 years old. This he videography and storytelling is amazing ❤️
This is probably one of the most enjoyable moments I had on youtube, I hope I get to see more of this stuff
I skipped flying into Lukla and hiked from Jiri my last time there in 2015. I'll be doing the same this October. Those planes and that air strip scare me to death.
good to see. Thanks for sharing video and loving Nepal. We Nepalese are eager to welcome you! 😀 Namaste!
This is why I love travelling. Even in the dull moments - there's never a dull moment.
This is by far the coolest video I've ever seen of Lukla airport. Thanks for sharing!!
Cool text, nice scenes, wonderful music, I felt there ! Thank you !
I like the vibe.
It has something of a small, cozy village!
The view is also really stunning.
I was holding my breath through so much of this vlog, haha! The sights were absolutely beautiful. Thanks for sharing, Ryan ♥
Yeah, it's quite the airport for sure. Thanks again for watching my silliness :)
Nepal is surrounded by beautiful nature .It is god gifted country .
Ryan: Who really wants to wash their hands.
Covid-19: Embrace me son.
@Ryan: No-one in Nepal apparently. In that respect Nepal and its people are like in India, except in the mountains. The other side of Everest (Tibet) is completely different though - much stricter about Everest permits, safety, guides etc. .... and hygeine too.
Lukla is geographically spectacular though, and the flight to Kathmandu was too.
Today I'm watching u r vdo for first time.. it's unbelievable sharing...thx a lot
Thank you for all these videos - It made me want to go to Nepal so bad. The LonelyPlanet and TrailBlazer books are now on my bedside table - Planning my solo trek for november 2017, either the 3 passes, or the annapurna trek.
Can't wait to see more content from your channel !
Great! You are gonna LOVE Nepal, I've done Annapurna too, it's pretty awesome. Here's some vids from that trek, ua-cam.com/play/PL11ABDFAC51C1E172.html
Let me know if you have any questions.
I watched them too (I kinda watched your entire channel last weekend)
I can't really decide yet - The "new" road in the Annapurna is what makes me lean more towards the 3 passes, but at the same time I know there are loads of trekkers in november doing the Everest Base Camp and the 3 passes.
Unless there is another cool trek that can be done solo, with tea houses, and good signs.
I'd do the three passes, the scenery is incredible and it's a little tougher, making it a great challenge
SenasPlage hey I am going in November as well , I wanna go to EBC do you have any tour company in mind ?
I simply can not understand why each video in this series doesn't have an equal number of "likes" to number of views. Simply awesome.
I really enjoyed the video. I appreciate being able to experience something as cool as what you did with out actually having gone. I flew to Australia and in Japan the toilet’s looked the same way?. I waited for the airplane bathroom.
Keep on living the dream and live it up.
I took at least three showers on my trek to and from Everest base camp. Mostly freezing cold water, and one in a shower cubicle with an open side facing across the valley. A shower with a real view.
Some places have showers with solar heaters, but you had better be one of the first two or three users or else it's mountain stream temperature (but still not as cold as the showers in the lodge at the top of Cerro Chirripó in Costa Rica).
yeah, they are available, but I just went full on dirtbag out there :) But...the wool kept me from stinking too badly.
I’ve flown in and out of lulka in September 2017 for Everest base camp and it has to be one of the best airports I’ve ever flown. Best than any roller coaster ride I’ve been on!
Hi Ryan, just have to say, you accomplished really something cool with this channel. I came across it by a chance, as I'm watching a lot of videos on the Cho La Pass recently, as we start our track in couple of weeks. Have to say one thing - the whole series of your trek are the best videos on Nepal Trekking I've seen! Thanks for those! Keeping fingers crossed you'll get your travel TV show finally.
Hi there! First of all, you are gonna love your trek in Nepal, it's so beautiful. Second, thank for watching my videos, it really makes me happy to know that people enjoy them. Stay tuned for more and have fun in Nepal!
Wow!! really amazingly captured video, love the way u take it. very interesting to watch.
The town seems to be doing pretty well for itself despite being isolated. With hikers and adventurer's coming to town, business must be booming!
You’re rock, man ! Congrats! The view is amazing !
This video is awesome man..I wish I had you as a friend... What an adventure we would have
much respect to the people of Nepal. Iv worked with your military often. Perhaps one day they will allow you to field full formations of Gurkas again.
Love Nepal its a very nice country. Love from Bangladesh 🇧🇩❤️🇳🇵
Thanks man, mindblowing views and somehow made me think that i should put on more work to be able afford those trips.must be fun
Nepal is such a charming beautiful place. I have visited again but I will visit again. And this time, I will surely go to Lukla Airport.
2024 and I'm here. Beautiful video
5:04 Makes me think about all the litter likely left behind on the trail.
Nepal is on my bucket list, including Lukla ❤️
Excellent video to get an inside view of the experience of flying out of Lukla.
One of the best thrilling moments of my life happened here twice! Once during landing another during takeoff!
What a spectacular hodgepodge mess that somehow works amazingly well!
Thanks for your love towards Nepal, despite the situation of the bathroom at Lukla Airport. Hope to host you again!
That early morning flight I did out of Lukla was really bumpy as you get the first thermals of the day. All par for the course and a really good curry at the end of the day !!
Ryan! Excellent set of videos! I have one question: What do you recommend for avoiding food poisoning? A friend who trekked in Nepal hired his own cook for the entire trek and taught him to always boil the water completely. I notice you just ate whatever was offered. Looks like about halfway in you had stomach problems.
It's hard to completely fend off food poisoning, I think what I had was just a bit of dehydration, not a full blown issue, luckily. The cooks there are used to preparing meals for foreigners, so they know to wash everything, and boil, but sometimes shit happens, ha! I wouldn't go as far to hire a personal chef though, it's fun to try out all the different foods at different places.
Hi Steve, I wouldn't worry about it. Really. Not one person in our group of twelve had any problems the entire three weeks we were there. That was eating at campsites, lodges, wherever. Good idea to use your own eating utensils. Or if you've gone native your right hand. Good idea to purify your own drinking water. Safe, eco friendly and saves money. Have some form of anti diarrhoea tablets on hand just in case. I've heard others suggest avoiding eating meat. Shouldn't be too hard as traditional Nepalese food doesn't contain much. Have a great trip. Wish I was going back.
This would have been spectacular in 4k....... love it anyhoo!
I didn’t realize who posted the video so I was surprised when Ryan showed up. LOL. Wow, cool. Wait I just realized I watched this before I knew of Ryan. Whoa! I didn’t realize it was the same person before.
i've flown in and out of this airport last year. didn't feel scary or dangerous at all! just felt cool!
You lead a really cool life, Ryan. My 4-year-old really liked this video and wanted me to tell you. She also likes to pick emojis on the iPad👩🎤
Vilken film Ryan! Jag blir avundsjuk på ett sådant äventyr. Denna sista film var helt underbar. Har sett denna flygplats tidigare men inte på det här fantastiska vis. Tack Ryan för dessa fina filmer!!!!
Thank you. It brings back the memories. I flew to Lukla for few times and the scariest airport ever. Hopefully go back again to Sagarmatha National Park😍😍
I think V1 (takeoff decision speed) on this runway would be 0 knots.

Thank you for sharing the beautiful video. I have been watching it again and again. Someday, I would like to visit and perhaps do the base camp trek.
Great music in the background... based on Raga desh!
Thanks for watching, I really hope you can make it there someday, it's pure magic!
Hi Ryan! I love your videos! I just finished watching your 3 passes Nepal series, and I have a couple of questions. Did you take Diamox at all? Did you get headaches, because the only problem you seemed to have was the cold at night? You mentioned diarrhea in one vid...bad food, water, or altitude?
I hiked 14 days just to reach Lukla, then onwards to Kala Patar and back to Lukla. Good Lord I miss trekking in Nepal.
ngeri deh..bandarnya...waktu mau ke everest.himalaya..toraja sulsel..
There is NOT a "9000 foot drop-off at the end of the runway". It is more like 2300 feet vertical between the end of the runway and the Dudh Kosi river at the bottom of the valley. I flew out of there in 1971, when the runway was not paved and there was no tower.
Wow. So this helps perspective on the big crash there. One of those planes wiped out the helicopter pad on the right. Brutal crash.
Best Vlogger on UA-cam, new subscriber. One question - How do you go about booking a solo trip? Most I have seen are with guides. Thanks man, Yor are truly inspirational
Thanks my friend!!! Really appreciate it. I actually didn't book a guided trip, I just bought the maps and went out on my own. It's very easy, many travelers I met did the same. Good luck!
Hey Ryan, make another video about Nepal again please, Nepal is so emotionally beautiful, I love it
What a beautiful place. I'm ashamed to have never seen footage if the area before
Great video and narration!
Wow. The view man is so amazing..
May 2022 here
love from Nepal.
reminds you that there is so much stuff to do out there and that our world is giant,
After 4 years watching 😃❣️❣️
#NEPAL🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵
I did Base Camp Trek last year and it was incredible! Though we got really sick the last day and couldn't finish our trek back. Had to get heli-ed out all the way back to Kathmandu! It was crazy! I realized much later that this is rated as one of the most deadliest airports in the world! Obviously they don't advertise that lol.
It's a such a beautiful trek, sorry to hear that you got sick, but I bet the view from the helicopter was epic!
Amzing video , keep living it up for the both of us
Awesome video. Top of my bucket list, I'm in good health but 63 now, so not sure if I could handle it or if they have a good geriatric trek instead. :)
Love the background music

KATHMANDU, Nepal - Rescuers zeroed in on a possible location of a passenger plane with 22 people aboard that is feared to have crashed Sunday in cloudy weather in Nepal’s mountains, officials said.
thank you❤❤
Back in '74 it was just a grassy field and flights were just once a week I think. If I had seen one of those takeoffs beforehand, I would have forgotten my aching knee and WALKED back as most did anyway.
Hey Ryan ... I don't know how I ended up here but thank you for reminding me how boring my life is man
Please notice there are many other airports in Nepal which are more risky or dangerous than Lukla but they don’t have frequent service and are unknown to foreigners. Many airports even don’t have black toppings and are very rough.
Maybe you could do a video of the kit you wished you had during your trip, and the kit what you never used in the end (if you had any as you where pretty light), .....as a sort of wrap up..kind of.
Awesome!!!
You. Got. THE. Life!
Excellent video!!! Nicely described. ❤
Man, I am in love with these amazing journeys & adventures. Thank so much bro for sharing this. So when is the best time to go tracking up there? & where can I get more information regarding this amazing trip?
Thanks for watching my friend! I've been there 3 times, always in november/december...which is a good season for trekking, but I think you can do it in the Spring as well. Cheers!
YAY I was hoping you would post scenes from the airport!!
mate, no one has had a shower and you expect the airplane pilot to take the sky? lol he gonna swoon
My uncle took me here when I was 16. I remember coming in to land and thinking nope! no way that's where we land! I miss Nepal. Absolutely amazing and beautiful place and people.
After 7 years watching this
como se llega LUKLA, me gustaría conocer me encantan tus publicaciones
Poor maintenence of toilet . Its would reflect negative impact to foreign tourist. Nepal aviation must do something better for passengers .
They can't even deliver the 80kg package using a car. Give them time.. Also the tourists still enjoys the adventure. It must've smell bad there, but hey look at the mountains! :D
Most of people who goes to Nepal are hardcore hiker or climber and they know what to expect. None hiker expect to get modern restroom along the trail in any country of the world. The rich or lazy kids goes to Maldive or Bahamas or any island country or first world country: They don't come to Nepal.
Wow, amazing and breathtaking!
Beautiful mountains
4:36 I was curious about the V.I.P room at the little airport. I bet their bathroom has water. lol
Watching after 5year from Nepal 🙏❤️
Ohh my good😵
Congratulations ur not only watching this in 2021 we are also watching✌️😆😅💚
That runway wasn’t paved when I flew out of Lukla in 99’ and we caught the last flight out with terrible weather.
So interesting. I flew out of Lukla in 1982, and still remember that thrilling take off. Lukla was very small back then. So it was amazing to see the difference. In 1982, we hiked all the way up to Lukla from the road, then onto Everest basecamp. It was a trip of a lifetime for sure.
Only bodybuilders should be allowed to mountaineer. I don't want to see non striated glutes climbing. We need a UN resolution about this.
@@jjr1728wtf so ur banning climbing?
