Square Enix's approach to marketing this game has been so weird.
Yeah they push forspoken pretty hard but didn’t do much for this game. Really want this game to do great it’s so damn good
@@inuclearpickle8628 Tbf thats because forspoken is a new IP so they probably thought as this is a sequel with an already established fan base they wouldn't need to market it as heavily.
I mean, these are the same people who named their games “Octopath Traveler” and “Triangle Strategy.” Not sure marketing is really their strong suit
@@nintendubs2265 Don't forget Various Daylife and bravely default.
Very mediocre tbh
Already finished all 8 stories and too afraid to face the last big boss, it's been an awesome experience! The original was great and it's even better here! Absolutely adore this game!
Same!
I absolutely loved the first game I spent over 300 hours on it. I’m about 25 hours into this second game and it’s even better than the first! Definitely my game of the year so far!
30 hours in and am LOVING this game so far, the soundtrack is incredible!
I've been loving part II so much! They improved the parts that maybe felt a bit lacking in Octopath Traveller I, but stayed faithful to the core gameplay. Especially the stories (and voice-overs) feel more fleshed out. Visually it's still fantastic and this game has an amazing soundtrack. The fact that the music changes between day and night is really cool. I'm still somewhere at the start but can't wait to delve deeper into the game.
It's the best HD-2d game ever. It is my favorite 2d game since Suikoden 2, Xenogears era. It accomplished so much. I can't wait for Octopath 3!
Sadly, it isn't selling so good, a third chapter is in danger...
So nostalgic and I absolutely love the return to glorious bit art.
I would love to see a Pokemon Octopath-like game.
this is exactly what I said to a friend when we were talking about octopath
I started with Temenos. He’s basically Sherlock Holmes but if he were somehow more conceited and full of himself, it’s amazing.
Also yes Zion we are going to make fun of you for calling her Cassidy
I have about 50 hours so far, and I’m currently preparing to do some Chapter 3 storylines for Throne and Castti. Right now I’m grinding to level up characters who need it. The game has a beautiful art style and a good sound track. I only wish you weren’t locked into the character you choose for party composition until you finish the main storyline for that character.
Squeenix is going hard on these sponsorships for this game, huh? Been seeing them everywhere!
...But to be fair, they do actually have something worth flaunting here. I'm near halfway through the final chapters right now and I've been having a pretty good time. It really improves on the already pretty solid original in every conceivable way, including story structure being much less formulaic, character and enemy animation work being significantly expanded, certain core mechanics adjusted clearly in response to feedback...
Without specifying for spoiler reasons, I think only one of the 8 main stories is a bit of a dud. I like all the others somewhere between pretty well and being seriously impressed. I'd say that's a pretty strong ratio. This game really has a lot going for it.
I love this game series so much!!!!!! Trying to beat Octopath 1, but did peek at Octopath 2 and so looking forward to it
This is my first time actually seeing extensive gameplay of the Switch version. I played the first on Switch and loved it- but I picked this up on PS5 and I am stunned by the significant difference in loadtimes! Game is great either way, but I’d highly recommend the PS version if it’s an option for anyone!
I love the way this game will give people different starting experiences. I started with the scholar and bumped into the cleric next, so it was a rough go for a while because of lower health and only staves for physical attack, but having AOE spells and analyze early felt good.
Fantastic game. I am 90 hours into it now, Beat the main stories and just trying to take on a super big bad at the moment who is crazy tough (in a good way) Love the game though I do feel it could have used a bit more challenge but perhaps I was just over levelled because I never realised that fast travel was a thing lol!
I'm excited to play this game soon enough! Metroid Prime distraction has been satisfied
Dude this guy just got an octopuff and a cait back to back and had no idea how rare that actually is😂
So into this game, I want so many more videos!
I am wondering if 99% of people picked Ochette on the start. I picked Mahina as it seemed like the obvious choice. I mean she is the natural main character when you look at the sprites. A sort of a Terra, offense character that fits the main role archetype. I mean she is voiced by Aya Hirano in the Japanese version. (Suzumiya Haruhi! ^_^)... Funny how it seems Square-Enix seems to consider Agnea the main or Partitio given how they are contributing to the ending and the big item that allows you to move around.
I actually started with Hikari, I haven't finished the game yet but so far he has the most classic RPG protagonist vibes to me.
Went with Osvald. Seemed like the character to go with to get the most lore out of the game (not sure if that's how it pans out in the end). And his ability to see weaknesses at the start of combat is a game-changer.
Big fan of the game honestly, it's just a same but better octopath 1. I seriously hope they continue this series.
Hey Zion, you going to Portland for the retro swap meet this weekend?
I love it so far. The only thing I don't like is that you can't choose which sprite is displayed in battle intead of always showing the secondary job class.
This looks good fun. Thank you for the video Zion. You’re introducing me to some games which wouldn’t have been on my radar otherwise
Soulstones are the key on the early octopuff enemies. Unpreventable damage. Normally those guys only have a handful of hp.
Already have 40 hours in this game. I loved the first and this one is super fun so far. Thanks for showing it off! I found out about the Original from you guys 😊
Around 30 hours into this game, and just finished aquire all of the characters,
and being busy hunting equipment, 2nd job licence and ex skills, didnt have time to explore the side quest
Tons of fun
I really need to get back to the first game…
I guess potential spoiler ahead, didn't want to spoil anything, but if you don't care......
I came across a special monster (death) if you will, during the night, as I was switching screens. The whole overworld went dark, and foggy looking. I have no idea how it was triggered...but one heck of a surprise. he put a spell on me that started counting down (assuming insta-death). I love this game!
I'm over 20 hours into the game and somehow didn't know you could run by holding b... thank you Nintendo life.
Loving it! =) beat Thronne, and Ochette stories already.
That throne final chapter absolutely floored me. I really like the diversity in tone and straightforwardness between the different characters.
ngl i was wondering where zion went for like the past week lol
i guess he was busy with this!
having a lot of fun with temenos and ochette
Zion in his most accurate valley girl impression: “This Olive gives me lifeeee”
I just want an *A Song of Ice and Fire* game. Is that too hard to ask for?
What the fuck lol
4:46 WHY DID THAT MAKE ME LAUGH SO HARD GODDAMMIT
ITS THE MOST DAD-JOKE NAME FOR AN ENEMY YOU COULD GET, _AND_ THEY USED THE NAME OF THE GAME AS A PUN, AARRRGGHHHH
This game is full of weird puns and I'm living for it. The character names spelling Octopath and their family names also usually having a pun on a characteristic ascribed to them is super fun
thunderbirdy
HD-2D is my favorite astromech droid.
I have played almost 30 hours and not seen the Octopuff lol
This is such a strange video. I can’t tell if he’s pretending to not know anything about the game so he can walk the viewer through or if he legitimately doesn’t know the game in which case he shouldn’t be doing this video.
I find the term HD-2D such a deceptive and weird choice (by whoever coined the term, not the channel to be clear, I understand its a common term). When I hear HD-2D I think of hi-resolution 2d visuals, like a Skull Girls, Hollow Knight, Ori, Cuphead, and so on. Instead the term seems to refer to EXTREMELY low definition pixel sprites, on 3d or high definition 2d backgrounds. Seems like the term should be LD-HD to illustrate its a combo of low definition and high definition art.
Games like Octopath have their own graphical charm, and I'll never complain about a small indie resorting to low definition pixel graphics for budgetary reasons, but for me personally, I strongly suspect I would enjoy any game with low definition graphics significantly more if they used their resources toward making all the sprites high definition stuff instead. It's the same reason I watched this video at 1080p60 even though 144p was available as a choice, I enjoy my images with more detail and less pixelization.
Again, still love Octopath, just always cognizant while playing that I'd probably love it so much more if I wasn't squinting at the movements of a handful of pixels who are meant to represent the characters.
The boss and monster sprites are definitely not low definition so I'd say it's a fitting name. It's only the character sprites that are chibi-fied. You also get a mixture of 3D graphics and sprites for the backgrounds with HD lighting throughout the game.
@@boianko There are lots of games these days with high definition 2d sprites, but the defining thing of what people call HD-2D is that they're a mix of low definition sprits and high definition sprites and or 3d models. Games that are entirely high definition 2d sprites are generally not called HD-2D, which is the part I find weird.
That said, people are referring to the yet to be released Eiyuden Chronicles as HD-2D, even though, unlike the Bravely/Octopath games, their character sprites actually ARE HD as well, just because its HD 2d on a HD 3d background, so its clear there isn't complete agreement on what the term means. If the defining characteristic is meant to be just 2d images on a 3d background, regardless of if they are high or low definition, then 2D-3D seems more fitting to me, but it is what it is.
I hope in the 3rd it's just 1 long ass dedicated story instead of a bunch that to me just throw off the pacing.
youre looking for the newly announced: Onepath. That's right, it doesn't exist. Go play another game man.
@@kieran3566 lol the fact that what I said bothered you is hilarious 😂
@@KirbyLovesPinkWalls I am probably going to get a earful too lol😅, but just recently I tried playing two games that were praised by a lot of people, call me crazy lol, but just couldn't fully get into them, traveler octopath 2 and tactics ogre reborn, the first because is a bit more grindy then I like, and I prefer a more tightly knit story, but the grind is my biggest annoyance, I haven't progressed too far into the game, maybe this changes later, but for now thats my opinion, with tactics ogre reborn, I kid you not lol, I fell asleep playing this game and more then once, I know the game has a solid story behind it, but those battles, it's almost like playing real chess, I find them pretty slow, if only they can be sped up a bit, the game isn't too difficult in my opinion, one of the other games that have a very similar chess type battle system, is the banner saga trilogy, holy hell I really enjoyed that, I will try when I can to go back to both octopath traveler 2 and tactics ogre reborn, on the other hand a game that many criticised was lost sphear, listening to these people I thought when I play this game I was going to get nothing less then lol dog's turd, but surprisingly I end up playing this game from beginning to end, and I thought it was really solid game, can confirm that it's more then dog turd level🤣
@@babaduk7679 You definitely do not need to grind in octopath 2 as the main factor for your power is your gear, with levels being pretty irrelevant aside from HP and SP. If you want to avoid grinding you can try to brave higher level areas and cities for better gear, as it will massively boost your power. I played through 4 character stories first so I did a fair bit of grinding at the start, but then transferred my gear to the second batch of characters making even bosses 10-15 levels above me a relative breeze. You could also get Partitio to grind money very quickly, and the merchant or dancer secondary jobs to grind JP.
@@boianko Thank you very much, I really appreciate the help, I will definitely go back to both of these games as soon as I can, its very good that in octopath traveler 2 it's not needed to constantly grind and that there is gear that helps, I am not new when it comes to grinding, it's just that sometimes just want to enjoy the plot, world and it's characters, one thing that I think is also really solid in both octopath traveler 2 and tactics ogre reborn is the voice acting, really really good
Thank you again, and I hope everyone here has a good time
I've noticed that so many people mispronounce these characters names😂
Who is Cassidy?
so octopath traveler 2 isn;t selling very well, so they paid nintendo life to make this video?
I find "HD-2D" art direction *very boring* and absolutely *unappealing.* If they ever remake the likes of *Chrono Trigger,* I would like it to be exactly like *FF7 Remake.*
It’s Castii not Cassidy
It's Castti not Castii
*Castti
Its CASSTI not CASSIDY
Great game but I still absolutely hate the stories and the fact you have to go to each new member, and start them off at level 1. It just destroys the pacing without EXP sharing of some sort. Constantly having to grind your non favorite members 10-15 levels to advance their story just gets tedious.
I know I'm in the minority but I actually really don't like the HD -2D art style.
The small character sprites running around on a more detailed overworld always looks strange to me.
In the daytime the Sunrays just look off and bright for the sake of bright.
Only time I really like the look is at night in Snow areas and in combat. The spells and attacks really pop.
"HD 2D" is the most buzzwordy nothing burger there is. Any game that is 2D that has high definition graphics is HD 2D. Octopath Traveler is just 2D objects in a 3D space, which is nothing new.
HD-2D is so overrated, it breaks the immersion because it doesn't fit with the sprites of the characters, I think classic 16-bit looks much better.
I don't get HD2D - why bother to try to make new games look old? It just looks like crap which was OK on small screen and I guess if you use your Switch in portable mode but I don't I play on large screen and can't stand that developers cheap out on real graphics with this HD2D crap.
Then why are u even here also are u blind HD2D games are beautiful I can’t wait for the dragon quest 3 remake it’s going to be in HD2D style when it comes out
It's not cheaping out, it's an artistic choice. I find the sprites to be endearing and you get a fair bit of detail with the bosses and environments/effects. It allows for a pretty large word and much higher enemy and item variety.
@@boianko It's just to cut development time and costs...so yeah cheaping out. There are plenty of 'artistic choices' I like the graphics on which don't involve mimicing legacy games.
