most alignment shops never bother much with the staring wheel being centered, this is why your video is the best video on .alignment.very well explained to, a1- 100%
I had the dealer do an alignment on my car after changing a blown run flat. I noticed there are small gouges on the outside of my rim roughly the same distance as those clips you show. IS this possible that they damaged my rims?
I just had my car alignment done and the guy used the sensors but they also lift off my car and did the alignment while the vehicle was in the air instead of have on it wheels, what is the difference?
Sounds like they did a good job. It is best to lift it when adjusting Camber and Caster. Toe can be adjusted with weight on the wheels as the video shows. Thanks for watching
You don’t lift it to adjust camber and caster. You release the plates (front and rear) so it can slide around to adjust the camber and caster and toe (if far out). I’ve never seen someone do an alignment with the wheels hanging, ever. Which doesn’t make sense because a car isn’t in its final driving position like on the road for such fine tuned adjustments lol maybe to get it as close as possible or to match the a good side. But sounds weird. And I worked for 2 shops and a dodge/alfa Romeo dealership and did alignments at all 3.
@@dcappucino9513 The alignment program watches the arc of the wheels as the vehicle is lifted off the plates. It compensates as the adjustment is made. While toe doesn't matter, it does make Caster & Camber adjustment much easier without the weight of the vehicle on the wheels. I double check adjustment after weight is put back on the wheels and make fine adjustment if needed. I do agree that these adjustments can be done on the plates but it is easier when the weight is removed.
front wheel center line must be exact, just eyeball it and no laser line? each refelector needs to be perfectly vertical and yet no bubble on them? so these machines can also find an off center axle?
Had an alignment done on my 2001 dodge Dakota but when I took test drive, I let go of steering wheel to see if it drive straight but it pulls to the left. Mechanic tells me that it has to do with suspension or ball joints or shocks. I made a couple of calls (Pepboys and dealership) and asked to speak to mechanic and sure enough, an alignment was not done. Also suspension, ball joint, shocks has nothing to do with an alignment. If in fact there was something with suspension then the alignment could not be done. Can you confirm what the mechanics said is correct? Thanks much.
I just got an alignment for my truck. I was backing up and hit the parking spot and my truck rocked back and forward by accident. I pulled forward and hit it again by accident. Is it going to throw my alignment out in the rear of my truck?
Are pegs supposed to be padded to prevent rim scratching? I had alignment done on my jeep 6 times today as they could not make steering wheel straight, now i have dozen of scratches and chips on piano black rim finish where pegs where attached. I noticed their clamps had metal pegs, so i wonder how this tool is suppose not to damage rims, like come on, even when i clamp furniture pieces being glued, i always use some soft padding to prevent damage where clamps squeeze. I am confused how this principle does not apply to alignment clamps... any input?
I have never had an issue with scratching but if the paint is thin i guess they could. Find a different shop that uses the Hunter Alignment Machine. It clamps to the tire tread and will not scratch the rim.
MrAdkinsAuto thanks, its original grand cherokee premium piano black rim, paint has substantial thickness. I ll try another place. Regardless, anything that is being attached like that to a premium set of rims sends shivers down my spine.
will those things on the rims scratch up after market rims? or should i just throw on my stock wheels get the alignment and then throw my aftermarket ones after getting it done?
Christopher Hernandez they won’t scratch unless the mechanic accidentally hits the wheel with the sensor or it slips off but other then that your good to go with after market unless they is a really tight space around the rim lip and tire
SnapOn Argo 3D. It works well. Hunter Engineering also makes an excellent alignment machine. This machine just fit better in the space I had to fit it into.
It is an option to put it horizontal. My machine is currently set up for vertical. We would have to rotate the reflector head to mount horizontal. Great question!!
Yes, especially if they're close to needing replacement anyway... they'll probably even recommend it. If you don't, and you need them replaced after your initial alignment, you'll have to get another alignment...which will cost more
You just need to know the alignment specifications. Perform the alignment to the specs and don't load an actual vehicle. The data base just preloads the specs and marks the red/green indicators. Good question!
Not easy to record, act, direct and narrate at the same time. Good job buddy
Don't understand why people would still complain about this video
It is easy actually
@@Big_AlMC not for everybody
This is hands-down the best video that explains how alignments are done.
So far the only video I've found on an alignment machine lol

Ok
Exactly! I've had this on both my cars recently lol. Car goes straight which is nice but having a crooked steering wheel pains me lol
Finally figured out who's keying my car!
They aren’t keying ur car they r customizing it...

How much was it roughly?

So is best to get new tires and then take it for alignment?
Yes

This machines will find wheel base, cross measuring, offset axles, all kind of measurements without the targets to be level

I have to get this done on my 99 blazer !

Good machine, what is its trademark, who is the manufacturer?
i love this work so much
How much will it cost to complete the Johann Benn setup?
This was a great video!
What brand is it of alignment machines? Thank you for your video

Hi you are right
Excellent video
Why can’t the alignment heads be sideways?? My tire is up in the fender so having it vertical isn’t really a option
It is an option to put it horizontal. My machine is currently set up for vertical. We would have to rotate the reflector head to mount horizontal. Great question!!
been doing alingments for 50 years, I hate the new Hunters that grab the tire instead of the rim
4:07 "I'm gonna roll the car *back forward* "
The Darkness, It Consumes Me back forwards as in back to where it was forwards
Can they change the tie rod ends for you when they do an alignment?
Yes they can
Yes, especially if they're close to needing replacement anyway... they'll probably even recommend it. If you don't, and you need them replaced after your initial alignment, you'll have to get another alignment...which will cost more
Great video!!
I had an alignment on my van they were done in less than 30 minutes ?? Is that normal
That's what they do for a living
One thing I would like to know is how are you able to do an alignment with this machine if its a special car that is not in the database?

Here’s the follow up video, took me a while to find it.
1st step remove your keys from your pants
Thanks helped alot!!
or you could use the tire balancer when you put the new tire on
A balanced wheel isn't going to fix incorrect camber/toe adjustment
Lol
This is $170???
Did I miss the most important part where he checked the tire pressures?
Must have...
Was John filming?
