Interesting, ECOMCON, I wonder if the writers took it from the 1964 movie, "Seven Days in May", "A Pentagon insider, United States Marine Corps Colonel "Jiggs" Casey (the Director of the Joint Staff), stumbles on evidence that the Joint Chiefs of Staff, led by its charismatic chairman United States Air Force General James Mattoon Scott who was a former fighter pilot, a war veteran, a flying ace, Medal of Honor recipient and an honorable patriot, intend to stage a coup d'etat to remove President Lyman and his cabinet in seven days. Under the plan, a secret Army unit known as ECOMCON (Emergency COMmunications CONtrol) will seize control of the country's telephone, radio, and television networks allowing them to control the flow of information during their coup."
The actor who plays Byers' father, George Coe, also played the head of a TV network on the show Max Headroom (an 80's sci-fi series that deals with technology and investigative journalism just like this show, though it's set in a futuristic world). On that show, the head of the rival TV network was played by Charles Rocket, who also appeared in the X-Files episode "Three of a Kind," which features The Lone Gunmen. I always thought that was a cool (albeit unintentional) connection. I wish there were more episodes of this show. I have a take on this: If the writers have known it for sure and they decided not to go to public because of the mistrust the media etc. maybe they wanted to see if the film industry is involved and if there is an authority to cancel the episode. I mean they did not get canceled immidiately and the episode aired. So if there is a conspiracy, the information flow takes some time and not many people have access to informations like that. Maybe the message behind the episode is, always to get public with such information, you just have to decide where and when.
I mean if this true, they did not stop the attack but they gave us information/insights about how you can bring up such messages in time (6months before the attack) AND to a broad audience.
Also it was a different time back then. You always should have in mind how "they" adjusted their methods after this episode and how technology envolved.

Which we would think would be the case actually. We'd want to think that our country's security is that where they better plan every last detail years ahead. Dean Haglund, who played 'Langly' on the X-FILES and on this show, has often been a Guest-of-Honor at the VALLEYCON convention in Fargo, ND -- he lived (lives?) in Minneapolis at the time, and was thus readily available for the modest convention Fargo could muster. My brother runs Valleycon, and I had the pleasure of sitting in during a panel discussion of Dean's involvement in the X-Files and Lone Gunmen shows a number of years back, and I asked Dean about the plot of this very debut episode -- about the hijacking (by remote-control) of an airliner so as to have it collide with one of the World Trade Center towers . . . which eerily predated (predicted?) the actual events of '9/11', having aired on Sunday, 4 March 2001, just over half a year before the terror attacks that took down both towers. I can't exactly remember what his thoughts were regarding the 'coincidence' of the episode's plot with the events of that fateful day, but I got the sense that, yeah, it was unsettling to say the least. BTW, Dean is not only an actor, but he's also a hilarious stand-up comic/performer, and he was quite fun to see at the routine he did for the sci-fi nerd-crowd at Valleycon. If he's ever a GOH at a sci-fi convention in your area, check him out and enjoy the show.

I've heard them mention things that are going on or exist in the real world that most people think are a conspiracy theory. Which I find intriguing.
was it a prediction or a warning?

Watchin this 9-11-2020 thanks to WeAllBe TV and News Bro Ron! 💯!!
Awesome thank you! I’ve been watching through the X-Files series again and trying to watch the movies and things in the appropriate places.
have you found any messages or warnings in watching the xfiles? is there anything i should keep my eyes open for?
Nice look at an alternate reality... in ours, the bad guys won this specific fight.
Was not satisfied at all with how it ultimately ended (as part of The X-Files' ninth season).
Who says it was unintentional?
George Coe was also in the cast of Saturday Night for its first season.
@@TighelanderII Yes, that's another connection with Charles Rocket, who was on the show during its sixth season! It keeps getting deeper...
Today I learned that the Lone Gunmen pilot predicted 9-11. Whaaaaat.
Or did it INSPIRE 9-11?
@@richardvogan4341 now that’s what I call a big brain thought
@@richardvogan4341 According to an interview I heard with one of the guys making or in the show, someone from the CIA? came and told them to make this Twin Towers show. Sometimes the government will have shows made to get people's minds used to an idea before it happens. I've since learned that this type of thing has happened with many many shows and movies.
@@donnaknudson7296 Its constantly happening all the time. Everything that gets made for Netflix is to get people talking about certain things and thinking about certain things, as well as showing us future realities before they happen to get us familiar with it. Think about how many pandemic/zombie apocalypse movies have been released in the last twenty years
@@praetoriandorn3154 Yes, it's true. I heard somewhere about someone in a meeting (or something like that) at Netflix saying that they were instructed to make everything very very dark... and it is. A lot of shows are dark, hard to take emotionally and like the way you described. I think sometimes about how everything popular is just part of a huge social engineering project. Popular music as well.
Thanks a lot for giving Lucky Larry the big idea.
I know he was originally an AD on the crew, but I always found Tom Braidwood’s acting to be very natural and compelling.

I would be surprised if the producers were cognizant of what they were putting out before 911, but the CIA//FBI certainly were.

It's a show or real life?
The book "Soft Targets" by Dean Ing showed a small aircraft being flown into the Statue of Liberty. This was in 1980.
Remember the made for TV movie “The Day After”? You just reminded me of that with “Soft Targets”.
An even more popular book, _Debt of Honor_ by Tom Clancy came out in 1994. It showed a commercial airliner crashing into the Capitol Building.
@@charlieparker5678due to his topics, Clancy developed contacts throughout the military intelligence & L.E. community... including FBI Assistant Director Buck Revell... Clancy was well briefed on the fact that all of our anti-terrorism experts in the 90's were warning that the greatest domestic threat to America would be the highjacking of a fully fueled transcontinental or trans Atlantic commercial jet shortly after takeoff & deliberately crashing it into a significant target... that's why he incorporated that method of attack in the plot of one of his novels...to help spread the warnings...sadly, nobody in charge paid any attention to these warnings...

The end of the book the running man, not the stupid movie, features ben richards crashing a jet into the games building, the tallest building in nyc. It was published in 1982.
Production-wise, very good directorial choices and mis-en-scene with lighting, framing, composition, colours, camera/lens application... if not music. Hmm, impressive. I'm sorry I missed this when it came out.
Why have I never seen or heard this scene before of them flying a plane into the Twin Towers before two planes were flown into the Twin Towers?

1) the girl who was dressed as a guy resembles AOC
2) the plot is really advanced for an oblivious pre-9/11 america (tech savages secretly monitoring your every move?)
3) one of the writers and creators is vince gilligan who went on to create ‘breaking bad’

40:10 I remember watching this on Australian TV only a couple of weeks before 9/11 so it was very fresh in my mind. It made the real deal that much more uncanny. Fact and fiction merged. It was unbelievable.

But that’s how they always were, even in the xfiles. It was hard for scully to take them seriously when she first met them.

It's unbelievable that this show predicted 9-11. How did the writers know?
Somebody told them
Isn't it just as likely, if not more, that whoever did the act got the idea from watching this episode?
@@poetscane8492 No because it took years of planning.
@@TaxingIsThieving I thought about that after I posted it. I wondered how long it took them to go through flight school. You bring up a great point. The specifics of crashing into the Towers can still be inspired from the show. Unless of course there is revealed info that they planned that specific usage of the planes during those years. Which we would think would be the case actually. We'd want to think that our country's security is that where they better plan every last detail years ahead.
What's interesting is I saw that Bin Laden was supposedly way more interested in the Capital Building, White House, and The Pentagon. Someone else was enthusiastic about the Towers. That would be crazy if they put that on their menu from the show.
Look at Neo's passport in the Matrix it has the exact date of 9/11/2001
Dean Haglund, who played 'Langly' on the X-FILES and on this show, has often been a Guest-of-Honor at the VALLEYCON convention in Fargo, ND -- he lived (lives?) in Minneapolis at the time, and was thus readily available for the modest convention Fargo could muster.
