    There's a material called Hydroponic Felt that is perfect for this and the one you got seems to be looking like that.

    Hey Matt, love your new kill roo... err... giant terrarium build, What size tent is that you're using? I don't see it linked in the description. I have a 4x4 and that definitely looks bigger from the angle you're filming at. 5x5?
    Also, you mentioned automated misting, that sounds pretty intriguing. Are you doing a video about it or can you share what gear you're using for it? I would totally do that in my Anthurium tent.

    I wish you good luck and no house mice. Mice don't eat the plants but the constant nipping will eventually kill the plant. I hate reliving it by describing what they can do; close to 200 orchids dead from mice is a very unhappy memory.
    This was almost a decade ago. I have chosen to just grow any plant and keep what survived to keep me from hording. The mice was a kind of lesson, as I would like to put it.

      @@TechplantChannelomg - don’t let mice, voles, gophers, etc. set up shop in your car. I once had a car catch fire because of mice chewing on wiring. I’ve also had mice die up inside and the smell when you turn the heater on is something I never wish to experience again.

    7:25 There used to very old videos here that had a similar material as that sheet but it was mainly used by florists. I cannot find those videos anymore since some of them are as old as UA-cam, those videos also had links to forums discussing their setups. Searching for it on how Google is now and how old those forums and discussions are a pain.
    All I can remember is that some use what florists use, but they're kind of expensive, not sure of the price now. Back then they would line the terrariums with it as well as some hardscape like branches to be completely covered by the moss they've chosen. However what you are using is a lot cheaper and seems to work.

    That’s pretty cool! Any concerns around mold growing on the carpet, particularly with adding auto misters?

    • @TechplantChannel
      @TechplantChannel  Місяць тому +4

      the carpet is synthetic material so I'm not sure what can grow and eat it. I think with good airflow it should be mitagated

    I don’t get the carpet? Why? What does it do?

    • @chichama9147
      @chichama9147 Місяць тому +3

      Aroids need a humid substrate to root onto it with their arial roots. The carped is sorta that. It provides a wet surface to attach too. Climbing airoids can reach "maturity" getting big leafs and sometimes change forms. Also if you slightly put nutrience in the carpet by spraying it, the plants can suck up nutrience each node, so they can provide it directly to every leaf.
      Hope i could answer your question😊

    • @TechplantChannel
      @TechplantChannel  Місяць тому +2

      Pretty much what @chichama91476 said, vining plants can climb it, In the larger room I will also put folds in the carpet so I can mount orchids and other epiphytes to it
