Sky Sports News' chief reporter Kaveh Solhekol explains the possible ramifications for Manchester City after the Premier League charged the champions with numerous alleged breaches of financial rules.
The alleged breaches span a period from the 2009-10 season to the 2017-18 campaign.
The club are alleged to have breached league rules requiring provision "in utmost good faith" of "accurate financial information that gives a true and fair view of the club's financial position".

Honestly a point deduction isn’t enough, relegation or a ban from europe for a couple of years should do. They’ve costed many teams their titles and had a trickle down effect from relegations, sackings, european spots, and so much more negative.

My interesting thought on it is they take the punishment **this year**, since they're not doing great (just lost to Tottenham!). It's like a yellow card ban... get the timing right and no big deal.
Clubs in the EFL have suffered heavy punishments for breaching FFP that has ruined them.
I know the Premier league and EFL are separate bodies but if Man City are found guilty then they should be punished severely even more so because they’ve broken the rules for the best part of a decade.
They punished Chelsea a few years ago then rescinded the punishment so I expect the same for city

Not this time. The list of charges is so serious and the the desire nows seems to be there to clean house.
Teams Like Utd have been complying with FFP for the last 15 years to the point that their squad is nowhere near the level of City.
I do no think people fully understand the implications of this as of yet. HMRC may also get involved because I suspect they will have issues as well with what has happened. No Corporation in the UK would get away with doing that.
@bighand69 agreed the list of charges is long and it will be tough for them to argue it. I am happy they cannot say it is time barred like they did with the UEFA charges. However I am not sure if they will claim the "fruit of the poisonous tree" argument in terms of how this all came about.
For sure if they understated expenses or overstated revenues in any way, then HMRC may become involved. However either of those scenarios means higher profits and therefore more tax but it would mean that their Financial statements presented are supposedly significantly misstated.

I wouldn’t mind my club breaking FFP for 9 years of success and only receiving 15 points deduction in just 1 season. That sounds like a great deal to me.

Think about it... clubs got relagated by 1 or 2 points, when city took 6 off them. Clubs like liverpool and united lost trophys and titles to city, by small margins. You just cannot correct all of this, so if found guilty they must be expelled from the prem. The only god send is that no amount of money could buy the European glory, so we don't have to worry about them stealing that from anyone

I'm very confident now that Pep will leave at the end of this season. Klopp might be on a similar route (perhaps sacked, but probably a mutual termination) and I can't see either staying in the prem :( Tough to lose two of the best at the same time. Derby were deducted an overall 21 points in the EFL for failing to find a buyer during administration, yet City break the rules for over a decade, and will probably pay their way out of any severe penalties by paying a huge fine. Oil money, for you. Wouldn't be surprised if Chelsea/Newcastle are being kept a close eye on too.

Yup. Nothing will happen. The Prem will hand the case to CAS and CAS will hand out a small fine and that will be heralded as justice, because PSG's owner (who is guilty of the exact same stuff) is also head of CAS.
The whole system is rigged.
EPL is a different set up with no time constraints on charges. All activities are included as evidence and cannot be excluded.
All clubs that are members of the EPL obey this rule and will through the process seek out that city are held to those rules as well.
The UK government is also looking over the should of the FA and EPL on this one. HMRC will also be looking at this as well.

My immediate reaction as an Arsenal fan would be points deduction, but I would rather any league win was won on merit. But giving City a Glasgow Rangers style financial punishment and starting from scratch in the Conference whatever league should be handed out.
As a Liverpool fan, it is just disgusting what they have got away with. Net spend, Liverpool aren't even in the top 5 in the league, yet we lost two league titles by a point due to City and their unbelievable squad which was created illegally.

The only way this can be put right, is deduct any profits from any titles they have won, award those titles to the team closest to them, deduct 100 points as there was 100 breaches and exclude them from european football for the next 2 years.

I've been saying this for years.
2009/10 season to 2018, the span of the duration of the alleged breach just shows how broken the FFP system is.
No point deducting point for single season when the breach has been happening for so many years. Obviously there must be some already fixed protocol of punishments, but I'd put financial cap in future transfers, investments etc equal to length of total seasons breached. The club has to suffer equal to the breach as possible, no less no more.

The fine was simply for not cooperating with UEFA. If the Premier League are indeed saying that their case is based on the UEFA rules and those were time barred, then this is a second bite at the cherry and may be deemed unfair. If so, they can be struck out. Also, if the 2014 adjudication by UEFA was on the same grounds as this Premier League investigation and charges, then this is effectively res judicata, in that the matter has already been the subject of investigation and sanction. This would be double jeopardy.

That is absolutely not the case. EPL case is not based on UEFA. It is based on activities within the EPL and is not subjected to European sports rules.
The UK government will step in and conducted an audit if the EPL does not at this point.
@@theportugueselegend I did follow the previous proceedings by UEFA pretty closely and read the full judgement from CAS (sad I know). I also have many years of legal experience which helps. I have no idea what sanction the premier league will come up with, if of course, City are convicted. And it will depend on how many of the allegations are proved. I imagine it will be a points deduction and also a pretty huge fine but i doubt if they will be brave enough to relegate them or expel them from the league but of course I could be well wide of the mark
How is a points deduction for breaches over 9 seasons enough
If convicted, they'll get a massive points deduction, at the start of the following season. PL won't kick em out, in case other clubs are doing the same. However, the hiding payments situation will get HMRC's attention, the implications of which... they could end up getting wound up, as per the club formerly known as Glasgow Rangers.

5 years investigation with the accused having allegations over turned with a reduced fine, so what is that 10,000,000 for alleged breaches.
It will probably just be a big fine and once the Premier League have £50m in their pocket they'll forget all about it.
I can't see the Premier League punishing City the same way clubs in Italy get punished.
The difference between City and clubs like Derby is that the rules around points deductions when going into administration have already been set out.
In this instance there isn't a set punishment for what City have allegedly done.
Whatever punishment they are given needs to be the standard punishment for such breaches in future.

To be honest, I think Newcastle are being more smart about their business and actually building a foundation before splashing millions like Chelsea and City, though I think Eddie Howe has a lot to do with that, they're not using the early City formula but building a team.

23 out of 29 premier leagues have been won by Man U Chelsea and city. These were the 3 riches clubs over this period. The league is already not competitive. I think we are all being fooled

We have seen all this before. It's like a common occurrence every season, 1 of 2 things will happen. They will be found guilty, they appeal and get off the hook again or nothing will happen and all this gets swept under the carpet again. Next season the same thing will happen again. @@verbon47 Yup unfortunately that's how it is now. Even the fine they got from the case with UEFA was just a 10m fine which is like an astronomically small fraction compared to the money they get from winning the prem or by participating in the UCL.
@@Akira9212 I've said this type of law breaking is unprecedented. They have 100 counts for 9 plus years of books mismanagement. This is, as I've said, not only a FFP break. It's a complete financial crime against multiple clubs and the major organization that is the Premier League. Second ocurrence, but a much more bigger problem. What is likely to happen? Newcastle that way has done a great job until now in managing their resources, legally. With minimal big names added, they are still in top 4.

If this was happening in any other league there would be a major points deduction and sanctions. I have a feeling they're getting a fine and nothing else. They have the money, I don't see them pushing City down to a lower tier etc because they're a huge football club now. It's a money maker for them and unfortunately that's how these leagues look at things.
Also, if they’re going to take titles away from them (as reported) then what about the money they received for those titles? Does it get redistributed to the clubs who finished 2nd? Far too much to sort out here. Absolute Minimum punishment for me would be a large deduction of points and sanctions such as transfer bans. If Chelsea got a ban then City MUST.
They're not that big a club yet, miles behind Liverpool and Manchester United and still a way to go to get near an arsenal in terms of size.
