- There is a new dominant mode of production making companies like Facebook and Google rich: what Professor Shoshana Zuboff calls Surveillance Capitalism. But what is it? How does it work?
Also be sure to check out Fight for the Future (www.fightforthefuture.org/), an organization dedicated to technology justice in the age of surveillance capitalism. They've organized campaigns around facial recognition, Big Tech monopolizing industries, Net Neutrality, and police accountability.

This is apparently one of the sources for a previous Danish high-school English exam 🤔😂
Im sitting here having the previous English examen as homework :( Good video but damn, homework is no fun.
why does this channel only has 773 followers
Brilliant!
Where can I find the sources behind the video? Is it just from Zuboff's book?
Yes! It all comes from Zuboff's book.
All is in the book....really interesting stuff, not a tough read but long. if you wanna have a taste check the interviews and conferences of Zuboff

Just read the book, this is an excellent summary. Thank you. However, I think the book is flawed by being overly negative and cynical towards technology, after all, it's not all bad for the users.
This shi scary af
The best way to stop the algorothm is to CONFUSE it.
Search about EVERYTHING you might accidentally think of.
i.e.: butterflies, swimming pools, guitars, trumpets, pianos, mozart, beethoven, seashells, birds, tigers, cars, bikes, wwII airplanes, brazil, nepal, sunglasses, baseball, ... WHATEVER.
That makes no sense, at that point you’ve shared your every thought with them, which is exactly what they want…
That's a lot of work lol
@@Dujhxoqksgwowneb I'd just find it to be too much work. I love emojis though lol.
@@Dujhxoqksgwowneb no. I mean search EVERYTHING. Even (and specially) what you aren't interested to
@@flourfree2K I understand the sentiment, however, it it still incredibly easy to “sift through the noise” and see which topics you were actually interested in. A simple behavioral signal such as time spent on a web page before returning to the search results shows A) content relevance to your search, and B) interest in the searched topic. Your behavior on when searching a topic you’re actively looking for vs one you’re you’re search for to confuse their model is different - maybe not different enough for a human to recognize, but more than enough for a program purpose built to find patterns to recognize. The only true fire solution is to simply not use these products that surveil us, but becoming a Luddite makes it so you are not able to “participate” in society.
A joke. That’s what it is.
Frankly, it's just capitalism. There is nothing new to slap "surveillance" as a qualifier. That serves for Zuboff's career and seminars inside the walls of academia. She described how this type of tech company makes more money, not anything novel or a relevant critique to capitalism.
Sounds like you read the book.
Wrong.
Not really. Simple capitalism is about reinvesting surplus production in order to create security and/or more surplus. This stuff is about controlling people, not products.
boring !!
