This may be the Deftones song that has the most appeal to those inclined to like any of their stuff. But many didn't give their later albums a chance. I feel like Hearts/Wires may engender similar appreciation. It's from their most recent edition, Gore, which came out in '16.
Gore needs to be enjoyed in one sitting, in order.
Gore is a lot like SNW. It took me a bit to get it and appreciate it

Incidentally, that wasn't my interpretation of the meaning. Rather that it was a figurative romantic experience w/ a woman in general or more literally he was taking us through a time/space travel. It's kind of ambiguous. There is a song that's precisely what you're talking about - Be Quiet and Drive. Straight-forward and one of their biggest hits.

If i had one word to describe this song it would be epic.

It's supposed to be a dreamy song, the intro starts that way and builds up to this fantasy with the person you're with. This guy, let's say Chino and Rosemary, are in a vessel, not a car but more like a ship. He refers to the "engines" and they're traveling through different planes, so they're going through like different dimensions, time shifting, crossing space and time, so they're breaking boundaries. When you feel so strongly about a person like that you feel like anything is possible. The key to all of this is in the lyrics "our minds bend as our fingers fold, entwined we dream unknown" so you're taking her by the hand and just diving into this brand new love.
But here's the kicker: the engines stall, at some point things take a turn, explosion, disaster. Time shifts again, energies colliding, now the desperation "just stay with me."
And the outro: It's over.
That's the song, it's about love and loss.

I think this song is likening time travel to reminiscing with a friend. As you look back together on all the things you've been through with each other it's like traveling through time together. Again, I think most of this album was about Chi. In this song, he is traveling through time thinking about all the good and bad times he and Chi had which formed their bond. The reference to a machine that is taking them through scape and time is just a metaphor for revisiting these memories.

I get more of a space or time travel vibe. It actually makes me think of the movie Interstellar
Try Beauty School and Sextape. I think both are also accessible and I often recommend those to friends to lure them in. Haha.

I think this song is about the beauty of touring, flying to each city/country, the magic and glory of all that comes w. being an artist, being able to share and create moments with your band and fans. That the time together in that realm of music and escape, is so special. Just my interpretation -
I would say this song doesn't really have a chorus- its meant to be more of a mood.
