Something I've noticed about Skull Merchant's design is thay her claw arm apparatus seems to be hydraulically boosted, allowing her to strike with vastly increased force, and removing the need for precision that a knife would require, because you're not just getting stab wounds with her weapon, you're also getting blunt force trauma and maybe a broken bone or two
If she aims it well it could be certain death. Those things look like it could puncture both of your lungs at the same time, even ignoring the fact the heart is in the same area
I kinda feel like the oblivious addon could be REALLY good for her more stealthy playstyle. Honestly think I may tinker and try to make her into a full on ambush killer
In terms of status effects, they actually already have one that they’ve kinda forgotten about; Deafened. I would love to see that one make a comeback since it has the potential to be a really interesting addition to regular matches. Currently the only thing in the entire game that uses that status effect is a really high tier Hag addon.
I think the arm thing might be one of those exoskeleton thingies that would let her stab with more force. Pretty sure there's some exoskeleton that exist now that let people pick up heavier things
Ya, I would guess it would make up for a lack of physical strength. It's pretty hard to get a blade to pierce an entire body like she does when you're not some kind of monster.
I think she wears the exoskeleton arm to make up for her small stature and strength. It also helps with knowing she isn't able to pick up grown men without it. I think it works in terms of lore, if they gave her just a knife then it's just some rich kid with a sharp blade an that's not interesting

Yeah I was hyped for a robot killer and the trailers hinted at it but then we got her I don't mind her power's concept since it could work and tbh isn't awful just kinda janky but the trailers had me hyped for a robot killer and we got her and her pretty bad lore
I quite like the design so I don’t mind it, BUT I admit we do definitely need a robot killer at some point. We’re lacking in machine, alien, monster type characters.

The Battle Of The Bands mention does give me a fun idea for a killer, or atleast a skin for the Trickster. Main weapon is a guitar with sharp metal crafted to it, an "Axe" (Getit?). The killer can shread on their guitar to launch violent notes forwards slowly damaging survivors. Or a "Blowout" where they place loudspeakers and deliberately blow them out to stun/hurt/confuse survivors near them. No matter how it comes out, it'd have a better Mori than Skull Merchant.
I'm super happy that you've still remained as one of the voices of reason of the DBD community. Even just saying, "The new killer is weak, but who cares," is way better than what 90% of the community has been saying
For the new status effects I wonder if some form of "Dizzy" would work. Maybe it affects you camera of movement in some way? LIke turns your camera a little or inverts your movement for a split second to kinda simulate being disorientated. Or something else like tunnel vision, where it adds a vignette around the screen, partially obstructing vision while also covering your allies so for however long you cant see their health or generator info. Better players would be able to work with this, but that's already the case for a lot of status effects.
They won’t add that because they want to appeal to the small 0.1% of people that get motion sickness. Why else do you think when a survivor is hit with a bottle they get a cross hair, or why the flashlights can’t be clicked fast anymore (epilepsy)

I don’t know if this would be balanced but I think it would’ve been neat if she was less of a damaging trap killer and more of a surveillance trap stealth killer. As in not having traps that take health states like trapper or help you get a hit like hag, but more so like setting up a device in zones that gives aura reading, but doesn’t broadcast its presence so survivors wouldn’t know it’s there unless they find it. No sounds, no obnoxious orange strobe lights. I like the idea of Adriana but it’s not executed right. She could still get buffs and have debuffs in the surveilled zone, like a speed boost or something, but the whole lock on/exposed thing I feel is too oppressive and lazy. Instead it’d be cool if she was a really mind game oriented killer with the aura reading “traps”.
I like this killer because is so easy to pull mindgames in larger loops because the undetectable effect they focus on the drone so you can catch them or they simply leave good loops like the shack . And if they choose to stay the become exposed
I know this is an unpopular opinion but for me, I've actually so far enjoyed The Skull Merchant. It's the first new killer I've enjoyed in almost a year. I had some fun matches both playing as survivor against her and also enjoyed playing her as killer. :)

I think she could be a good killer to catch people off guard with since her play rate will probably be low, have some sneaky builds in hand and destroy unsuspecting survivors
I’m getting a lot of mileage out of the Exhaustion add-on for the drones. Just leave drones on looping hotspots then any cheeky dead hard user suddenly finds themselves up shit creek without a paddle
I loved this game for two weeks. Then I realized that I was playing the Switch version and that everyone else could see the game WAY better than I could.
ive found pretty decent results setting up a strong gen defence, doing hit and runs, and throwing in chase perks to get quick downs in the mid to end game
I don't need another chase-oriented killer when my chihuahua loops me around a table for ten minutes when I try to get a leash on him (my collision box is much bigger than his) So Adriana's alright enough.
Honestly although the lore is cluttered as shit, the main points that poke out actually make sense. Like, after her dad went insane and disappeared, she was trying to track him down by analyzing his manga, when she got to the darker ones she realized she could turn herself into that, being a rich bitch she had everything she needed to make these "tools of torment" at her fingertips. Wanting to be even richer and also test out her equipment, anyone that stood in her way she would hunt as a way to gain experience and get used to the blood and stuff. The more people she hunted and killed, the more skulls she'd have. After she had enough skulls she could complete her ensemble with swapping the fake skulls with real ones. Is the lore still extremely cluttered and confusing? Yes. Is the last bit about the skulls all speculation? Yes. Am i doing the best i can with the bullshit we got? Yes.
Hmmm. My theory is her story is convoluted because its that mind of a killer aspect. We can't grasp why she is doing it, maybe she fabricated everything and was just obsessed with the manga until the very idea became that, Fear. Like a Batman scenario without a troubled family death, but I do agree with the parts where they continued to ramble on. They need to explain why she has her skills and how she uses them properly, which I say for drones its a simple button and her engineers builds them. I guess with the weapon, though I like, was attempting to make an original Amanda Pig from Saw.
about implementing new status effects, we literally have the deafened one that's only used for one of the hag's addon and that's it... what a waste of an opportunity
I think most people are less disappointed in her and more disappointed in the fact that it was clearly a Predator killer but something fucked up. Two survivors, disjointed lore in the killer, reliance on technology, the exact same fucking weapon as predator
Honestly i would be hyped for a surveillance character if it didn't look like dollar store predator. Bring a crazy weeb, why not have her attack with a weapon from her father's Manga? We could've had a cosplay killer.
Actually having fun with this character. She forces survivors to either take the time to position cover between them and the drone's passive beam, stay away from key areas, let the killer know exactly where they are, or get exposed *and* show the killer where they are. Area control for the win.
Skull Merchant strikes me as a "we couldn't get the rights to The Predator" backup plan. Her entire kit wouldn't feel out-of-place on a Yautja killer but I guess they couldn't get the rights in time and had to slap it all on an OC?
"Busted with little counterplay" until a group of survivors breaks your devour in the first few minutes of the match and counters your eruption with comms.
On a serious note, thank you Rowby for not making YET ANOTHER “Skull Merchant Bad” video. I’m genuinely excited for her, but the “skull merchant bad and if you like her so are you” crowd are getting real annoying
The purple addon that hinders them by 5% seems good until you realize it only works for 3 secs upon ENTERING the radius. So it takes either perfect coordination or timing to get any value from it. For reference, clowns toxin hinders by 15%. So she can do a 1/3 of the effect of clown with less consistency. I think her actual best Addon is the the one that reveals the survivor aura for 6s when they are in the radius. You can see it from anywhere and it lets you know exactly what they are doing near your drone. I use it for a totem build to protect my bones and its working pretty well.
You gotta admire Behavior for sticking to this character design. They could've easily redesigned her, and they really haven't. At least her weird walk, and the strange robot arm thing.
Honestly out of everything in this chapter it's leverage that annoys me the most honestly, needs two people dead and the other two on death hook for full effect, lasts just 30 seconds and with the release "bug fix" is rendered useless if ANY of the survivors brings circle of healing. It's just a timed budget sloppy butcher that needs way more effort and by the time you're going to get it to full you won't even get much usage out of it
her perks are all trash. Leverage? just bring Coulrophobia. Thwack? just bring BBQ&Chilli. Game is Afoot? why bother? it actively works against itself by requiring you to stop and break, which is going to end chase unless the survivor is a retard that just stands there and watches you break.
@@JondarKorric At least Thwack has usage on killers that have ranged attacks like huntress, trickster, deathslinger, artist. And Game afoot can have a niche use in spirit fury builds. But leverage? It is fundamentally terrible because of its requirements and lackluster benefits, there are plenty of anti healing perks that can do its job much better, it's why that leverage in particular annoys me greatly
She gives the vibes that she is supposed to be like the predator with the wrist blade. Making me think they tried really hard with Fox to get the rights to use him, granted predator already has a isometric horror game.
This is the first original killer I think HARD fails in the aesthetics department. Even if Twins are ugly, Legion is so edgy it hurts and Deathslinger is a Scooby-Doo villian, they all embrace their style for all it's worth and are kinda fun because of it. Skull Merchant just feels like a Mortal Kombat Fighter concept that got cut cause they had no ideas for her.
Good meme build for her is impossible skill checks. You bring the iri second terror radius, the brown smaller skill checks, huntress lullaby, dark devotion, coulraphobia, and unnerving presence, and no one in your terror radius can heal and it's harder to do gens
Nice someone acknowledge her presence on the field. I really like looking at the map covered in swirling lights or bright circles. Not sure why I like it but sucks it only takes one survivor to scoop them all up now, what a dumb nerf~
I have found that a very effective build for her is: Brutal Strenght - Overcharge - Call of Brine - Sloppy Butcher Addons: Shotgun Speakers - Loose Screw Basically you keep your drones up near gens, if they are taken down you go there, hit someone, kick the gen and replace your drone, repeat until one of the survivors make a mistake and go down fast, repeat until they are all dead. It's very hard to beat it even with 2 gens remaining and them being far apart because you can keep your drones on the remaining 4 gens. The bad side: I never had such long games, it takes forever if there are 4 survivors remaining with 2 gens left to be done, but so far I had 3k to 4k all games.
Just started to play Skull Merchant, opted for a chase build and chose to do the opposite of three genning. I make sure I put drones that will favor the survivors when it comes to rushing gens. So my builds tend to be on the stealthy/tracking side as I am very confident when it comes to handling loops and chases as I myself main survivor and find most readable. It's super fun and I haven't "lost" yet. I'd like to believe I'm in mid-high mmr so at least it works now. I also ask any people who chat if I was doing well at not three genning because I truly do care about how everyone in my game is doing and if I'm being living hell or fun to go against. Idk why I guess It's just how I am but I hate three gen strategies, they are boring for me. Luckily most feedback has been positive, some people dc when they see me or hear they're going against a SM and start to trash talk but idc about those people as they instantly assumed I'd be a pain to try and survive against. Although it's understandable, try to stay till you at least realize what's going on, then leave if you believe you'll be there for an hour because not everyone SM will three gen but I agree most will.

I mean, Dredge was pretty different, Demo was pretty different, Trickster was very different, I don't think it's the differentiation more than it's the execution
I find I enjoy throwing down the drone next to one of the pallets that you can only go left or right on without breaking it. Either the survivor runs and gets snacked or stays and gets smacked when exposed. (Strategy rate of success depends on Survivor and Killer skill, success not guaranteed,)
Maybe I'll also add to the hate train that is after her by speaking out, but let it be, I guess I also consider myself as "take things more positively or at least don't bitch about it infinitely" guy, but I was quite disappointed in this killer and, mostly, due to her visual design. I love all sci-fi-ish, so when I first saw the trailer, I was very hyped. A shot of blueprints accompanied by very rough buzzes only to reveal a camera stuck inside the skull. I might call this one of my favourite pieces of media ever. This opened up imagination to a wide variety of possible visual designs: a robot who uses a rotten corpse as it's body; a person who kills people and uses their robotically-enhanced body parts in order to do their "job". So, I'd imagined new killer would be very akin to Doctor And then she comes out on PTB. Claw has no disturbing details about it, aside from blood, but that's really nothing for DBD. Her mask looks like if it's exterior was designed by some fancy jeweler, while the one who made it itself was some homeless guy. And all that is left are drones. They do look fine, but you don't really get to see them up close often. So here's that. I just feel like there could be more done to her to make her look visually more interesting. Like, making a claw a part of her arm, making half her face be augmented, etc... Aside from that I think she's... fine, gameplay speaking. Not strong, but okay That said, even though I was disappointed in this killer, I don't really buy into "Behaviour bad", "we've been robbed of Predator chapter" and, the funniest, "let's boycott this chapter"

It was today I learned how much of my taste in media Rowby shares.
I loved this game for two weeks.
Then I realized that I was playing the Switch version and that everyone else could see the game WAY better than I could.
ive found pretty decent results setting up a strong gen defence, doing hit and runs, and throwing in chase perks to get quick downs in the mid to end game
I don't need another chase-oriented killer when my chihuahua loops me around a table for ten minutes when I try to get a leash on him (my collision box is much bigger than his) So Adriana's alright enough.

Honestly although the lore is cluttered as shit, the main points that poke out actually make sense. Like, after her dad went insane and disappeared, she was trying to track him down by analyzing his manga, when she got to the darker ones she realized she could turn herself into that, being a rich bitch she had everything she needed to make these "tools of torment" at her fingertips. Wanting to be even richer and also test out her equipment, anyone that stood in her way she would hunt as a way to gain experience and get used to the blood and stuff. The more people she hunted and killed, the more skulls she'd have. After she had enough skulls she could complete her ensemble with swapping the fake skulls with real ones. Is the lore still extremely cluttered and confusing? Yes. Is the last bit about the skulls all speculation? Yes. Am i doing the best i can with the bullshit we got? Yes.
It's nice you can cook survivors in a locker with the drone if there's multiple locker's in one area and you don't want to search them all.

Hmmm. My theory is her story is convoluted because its that mind of a killer aspect. We can't grasp why she is doing it, maybe she fabricated everything and was just obsessed with the manga until the very idea became that, Fear. Like a Batman scenario without a troubled family death, but I do agree with the parts where they continued to ramble on. They need to explain why she has her skills and how she uses them properly, which I say for drones its a simple button and her engineers builds them. I guess with the weapon, though I like, was attempting to make an original Amanda Pig from Saw.

I think most people are less disappointed in her and more disappointed in the fact that it was clearly a Predator killer but something fucked up. Two survivors, disjointed lore in the killer, reliance on technology, the exact same fucking weapon as predator

Actually having fun with this character. She forces survivors to either take the time to position cover between them and the drone's passive beam, stay away from key areas, let the killer know exactly where they are, or get exposed *and* show the killer where they are. Area control for the win.
Skull Merchant strikes me as a "we couldn't get the rights to The Predator" backup plan.
Her entire kit wouldn't feel out-of-place on a Yautja killer but I guess they couldn't get the rights in time and had to slap it all on an OC?
Maybe Disney (the rights owner) retire the license from BHVR mid-way production making them rethink the whole chapter. What a shame...

She needs a Handsome Jack Legendary skin and then I’m happy
The purple addon that hinders them by 5% seems good until you realize it only works for 3 secs upon ENTERING the radius. So it takes either perfect coordination or timing to get any value from it. For reference, clowns toxin hinders by 15%. So she can do a 1/3 of the effect of clown with less consistency. I think her actual best Addon is the the one that reveals the survivor aura for 6s when they are in the radius. You can see it from anywhere and it lets you know exactly what they are doing near your drone. I use it for a totem build to protect my bones and its working pretty well.
You gotta admire Behavior for sticking to this character design. They could've easily redesigned her, and they really haven't. At least her weird walk, and the strange robot arm thing.

Honestly out of everything in this chapter it's leverage that annoys me the most honestly, needs two people dead and the other two on death hook for full effect, lasts just 30 seconds and with the release "bug fix" is rendered useless if ANY of the survivors brings circle of healing. It's just a timed budget sloppy butcher that needs way more effort and by the time you're going to get it to full you won't even get much usage out of it
her perks are all trash. Leverage? just bring Coulrophobia. Thwack? just bring BBQ&Chilli. Game is Afoot? why bother? it actively works against itself by requiring you to stop and break, which is going to end chase unless the survivor is a retard that just stands there and watches you break.
@@JondarKorric At least Thwack has usage on killers that have ranged attacks like huntress, trickster, deathslinger, artist. And Game afoot can have a niche use in spirit fury builds. But leverage? It is fundamentally terrible because of its requirements and lackluster benefits, there are plenty of anti healing perks that can do its job much better, it's why that leverage in particular annoys me greatly

Skull Merchant: making release Legion look like the most well balanced and designed killer DBD devs ever made (excluding the atrocity that is Nurse).
This is the first original killer I think HARD fails in the aesthetics department. Even if Twins are ugly, Legion is so edgy it hurts and Deathslinger is a Scooby-Doo villian, they all embrace their style for all it's worth and are kinda fun because of it.
Skull Merchant just feels like a Mortal Kombat Fighter concept that got cut cause they had no ideas for her.

Good meme build for her is impossible skill checks. You bring the iri second terror radius, the brown smaller skill checks, huntress lullaby, dark devotion, coulraphobia, and unnerving presence, and no one in your terror radius can heal and it's harder to do gens

Nice someone acknowledge her presence on the field. I really like looking at the map covered in swirling lights or bright circles. Not sure why I like it but sucks it only takes one survivor to scoop them all up now, what a dumb nerf~
I have found that a very effective build for her is:
Brutal Strenght - Overcharge - Call of Brine - Sloppy Butcher
Addons: Shotgun Speakers - Loose Screw
Basically you keep your drones up near gens, if they are taken down you go there, hit someone, kick the gen and replace your drone, repeat until one of the survivors make a mistake and go down fast, repeat until they are all dead.
It's very hard to beat it even with 2 gens remaining and them being far apart because you can keep your drones on the remaining 4 gens.
The bad side: I never had such long games, it takes forever if there are 4 survivors remaining with 2 gens left to be done, but so far I had 3k to 4k all games.
Just started to play Skull Merchant, opted for a chase build and chose to do the opposite of three genning. I make sure I put drones that will favor the survivors when it comes to rushing gens. So my builds tend to be on the stealthy/tracking side as I am very confident when it comes to handling loops and chases as I myself main survivor and find most readable. It's super fun and I haven't "lost" yet. I'd like to believe I'm in mid-high mmr so at least it works now. I also ask any people who chat if I was doing well at not three genning because I truly do care about how everyone in my game is doing and if I'm being living hell or fun to go against. Idk why I guess It's just how I am but I hate three gen strategies, they are boring for me. Luckily most feedback has been positive, some people dc when they see me or hear they're going against a SM and start to trash talk but idc about those people as they instantly assumed I'd be a pain to try and survive against. Although it's understandable, try to stay till you at least realize what's going on, then leave if you believe you'll be there for an hour because not everyone SM will three gen but I agree most will.

Different doesn’t mean good, this is definitely their worst chapter.
I mean, Dredge was pretty different, Demo was pretty different, Trickster was very different, I don't think it's the differentiation more than it's the execution
I find I enjoy throwing down the drone next to one of the pallets that you can only go left or right on without breaking it. Either the survivor runs and gets snacked or stays and gets smacked when exposed. (Strategy rate of success depends on Survivor and Killer skill, success not guaranteed,)
Maybe I'll also add to the hate train that is after her by speaking out, but let it be, I guess
I also consider myself as "take things more positively or at least don't bitch about it infinitely" guy, but I was quite disappointed in this killer and, mostly, due to her visual design. I love all sci-fi-ish, so when I first saw the trailer, I was very hyped. A shot of blueprints accompanied by very rough buzzes only to reveal a camera stuck inside the skull. I might call this one of my favourite pieces of media ever. This opened up imagination to a wide variety of possible visual designs: a robot who uses a rotten corpse as it's body; a person who kills people and uses their robotically-enhanced body parts in order to do their "job". So, I'd imagined new killer would be very akin to Doctor
And then she comes out on PTB. Claw has no disturbing details about it, aside from blood, but that's really nothing for DBD. Her mask looks like if it's exterior was designed by some fancy jeweler, while the one who made it itself was some homeless guy. And all that is left are drones. They do look fine, but you don't really get to see them up close often. So here's that. I just feel like there could be more done to her to make her look visually more interesting. Like, making a claw a part of her arm, making half her face be augmented, etc...
Aside from that I think she's... fine, gameplay speaking. Not strong, but okay
That said, even though I was disappointed in this killer, I don't really buy into "Behaviour bad", "we've been robbed of Predator chapter" and, the funniest, "let's boycott this chapter"
So far I’m actually enjoying her loving her changes and everything 8/10
