Whenever I listen to Tommy play, I get inspired to dedicate my time to guitar mastery, learning his stuff. Then I go, wait a minute, I am primarily a singer/songwriter. Duh, I make and need songs with lyrics. So I go back to what I was doing. Then in this interview he points out that the importances are songs, melodies, singing, connecting with people. Very interesting that the guitar master recognizes the very same priorities that I do as a singer. Universal truth. Technique is important to the degree that it facilitates the communication of the message that connects and means something, moves people. On the other side of the coin, one can display technical expertise which is itself sufficient to create an emotional impact.
Listening to Tommy speak about his music is just as joyous as listening to him play music. A lovely interview, nice work 💜
