I would have known by tracks and rubs….. you don’t place the cam if you don’t recognize the terrain, go to look, find the trails, see buck prints and note key worthy of a camera. THEN see what and size potential is there; set your goal and HUNT. You can’t get set a camera without knowing where to go, what to look for BEFORE you hunt.
@@howtohunt1777 It’s motivation when you see em for sure 👍🏻. Elk are ghosts in my backyard for sure. I had some major growls from a possible bull elk on the last day. I haven’t been in there all year and he heard me stalking hunting in my trail. 30 years of next year!!!
You absolutely have to know the area has good potential before you even think of putting a camera. The fact the camera shows you certain bucks are there certainty doesn't guarantee success especially the vast area Steve hunts. Cameras are a helpful tool but the hunter is the one who has to game plan. Steve is a legend with many hours in the woods. I consider myself a good hunter but Steve is on another level.
That must have felt like an amazing accomplishment when you went completely against your better judgment and knowledge to follow your gut and raced to find him right where your instincts took you Steve!!!! Congratulations!!! You deserve to get away on your own whenever you have the urge or feel the need!!!! Good for you! Blows my mind thinking of that big buck weighing 350 pounds dressed out!!! What a monster!
Congratulations, Steve! What a TRUE hunt! I don’t know how the heck you can pack out 350lbs in that terrain 🤯 AND, you STILL take time to bring us along❤️
Congrats Steve. About twenty years ago a friend of mine killed a ten point whitetail in coshocton county Ohio, after field dressing it weighed right at 300 lbs.biggest bodied deer I’ve ever seen.
I found your channel many years ago and loved the hunting stories, have loved the journey into knowledge of the real world with you Steve, however, I really missed the hunt stories. Thank you Steve. Keep on keeping on brother.
Congratulations on your buck especially a target buck you’ve scouted for. Mule deer hunting is my life it was a hard year here in Wyoming this year due to winter kill. You’re a badass brother!
I am always thrilled when someone makes their goal! Be it hunting or something that is important to the individual. Congrats on your endurance to making that goal a reality. I really liked the parting song you put in. Thank you so much for sharing this amazing experience!
My buck wasnt that big but no less rewarding, I know how you feel! You are a great story teller and I learned so much from you, which I used to make my hunt a realty ! Thank you!
This is what i like most about your channel. I hubted my first time on public land in michigan lots of huning pressure went to the obvious over looked spot and boom was on some deer. Just nothing i wanted to bring home
Wow, that is what I would call one great hunt for sure, where I, for one, am really grateful that you took the time to take all of us along with you on this special hunt of yours. It was a much-appreciated hunt by this old timer!!! Thank You!!! It's hard to conceive that a mule deer can get that big, but I do know for a fact that they can get that big, because in Utah, where I used to hunt, they would have some 300 + pounders with 7 and 8 points on each side, where their name for them would be Majestics! Yes, I do have a Sabe' story that will blow your socks off but writing it all down might be way too long for you, but I still need to get it to you, because it tells all of us just what they are, big time, to where I have been watching your story telling now for over 3 years!!! Thank you for what you are doing for the people!!
I second that! I want to learn whatever I can. I always wish that people who wrote in saying "sorry if this is too long" or "I'll keep this short" and "I'll have to write in about that other bit another time" would have really decided to put that extra effort into that single email Steve just happens to be reading right then. Steve hasn't ever been put off by the size of any email that I've seen. I've heard him make mention of it as much himself. Don't be afraid just send it send it and be heard. I listen to 3 videos and sometimes more of Steve reading accounts daily while working and doing other things. We need more voices from the experienced and make sure it is as long and detailed as you can be. No shame in writing a book If your able and willing as this is exactly the right place to be heard and thanks in advance for contributing whatever knowledge you decide to share with us all! It will be received most appreciatively I assure you! 😃 🍻
Awesome buck Steve! You’ve renewed my hope/perseverance to keep hunting the general area on Utah’s north slope where my Grandfather always harvested deer near our family cabin. There’s some giant bucks in the area, but gets pounded due to our states shitty elk management! Love the content and always looking forward to more! Thank you Sir!
Dang Steve! Nice buck! Wish I had more land to hunt here but i did find a piece of publick land nobody's hunting. But very first hike in the swamp and a big tree fell not 40 yards in front of me! Didn't scare me but I definitely respect. So went back in the next day and found that tree was a dead fall. No tracks... but im going back in my kayak
Your hunting stories are the stuff of dreams for many of us. Awesome job keeping it real, sharing the struggles, and man what buck. We are the same age, and though I’ve tagged a hundred midwest whitetails I long for that wilderness hunt. God Bless brother!
What a great accomplishment.Your channel it the best. I grew up listening and telling hunting stories with my family, and these are all golden. Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences with us. Harvest your own meat... so cool.
What a BRUTE MULEY!! Love all your videos ands stories man!! Great job telling them. You’ve had an awesome life having made the right choices.. smart bro
It’s amazing how the gut instincts kick in. I’ve had a couple experiences like that too. I just need to be somewhere. Smashing a goal is awesome. Especially when you have to work hard for it. That was me last year getting my first big game with a bow. Spot and stalk/ambush 180 mule deer buck. Congrats on the old giant! Great story.
DUDE!! Kick ass FU NG video!! Oh yeah, nice job on the ol' Mossback too, I reckon! You are too much, my friend, God love ya for it too! I showed this video to Sage and Wyatt, my boys, 21 and 19 respectively, and they thought I worked hard for the Muleys here in N Colo. We all three of us think that you are just the shit, buddy! We're prouder'n three pups of ya, thanks for everything you do to guide and teach us (and give us something to shoot for) Figuratively speakin, a course!!

Man that was a beautiful animal and a killer story! Seeing you as you shared the thrill in that moment as it just happened.. it put me right there with you man! Been following you on your facts channel soooo long now and saw this pop up and thought hell yeah let me see Steve talk about his hunt for a change. I'm glad I did. Congratulations on that beast!🍻
Hell yeah Steve. I was hoping you would do something like this for this buck. He was a cranker for sure man. Keep it up as long as you can man cause time goes faster with our age.
Wow. I love and know that feeling. Moved to Virginia where my son lives and he’s 39 and never got a deer until three weeks ago with me. His first was a button buck thought was a doe. We are meat hunting so it was fine. Two weeks later he got a 8 point and a doe. 35 minutes apart. I was so excited not caring if I got one. He’s mounting the 8 point. I’ve told our story 20 times. So proud and happy. Keep up with the hunting tips and stories. Your babbling is very informative so stop apologizing and keep it up. Thanks Steve. I listen to them several times. lol. You and yours have a safe and wonderful Christmas season. Ps. I called and racked in his buck. He ran under his stand two minutes afterwards. I was stoked. Thanks again.
When you get that feeling in your gut that tells you to get to a certain spot, always follow your gut. Its worked out for me multiple times, just as it worked out for you. Congrats on a nice mulie
Great Job! Amazing area with those genetics and the interface of Blacktail, Mule, And Whitetail. Steve, what is your take on the genetic mixing happening between these species? are you seeing any hybrids?
