Thanks Denis, niece video - another catalyst. Started me thinking differently about other Chopin pieces too. Always a pleasure. 👍

Another helpful video, about a piece I've always struggled to play with the kind of subtle expressivity that can make it such a beautiful work. Sometimes the "easier" pieces are the most frustrating, cause I can play all the notes just fine, but nothing I do seems to change the fact that it just doesn't have that magic. Your advice is very useful, especially about the phrasing in the opening melody. I've never really known how to interpret the phrase and slur markings in the first three bars, so your demonstration helped me understand how to shape and close those phrases. Still, I really wish I could play it with the kind of subtlety and gracefulness that you do at 4:18 with the F to Eb, or especially the jump from Bb up to D at 5:50. I never thought I'd find playing two notes at a slow tempo so difficult!
As a former English teacher who used to teach many Slavic speaking students in Prague and Belgrade, I must make one comment about the title of this video, hopefully you don't mind. In this case you should use the definite article "the" rather than the indefinite "a", so it would be more correct to say "The Fragile Beauty...." rather than "A Fragile Beauty." This is because beauty is a singular quality, so we only use "the" to say things like "the beauty of the sea" or "the beauty of her singing." Although there are of course different types of beauty, so you could say "the haunting beauty of Chopin's nocturne" or "the remarkable beauty" or any other descriptor you wanted, but always with "the." All my students hated articles because the rules for them are so confusing or contradictory, and there are many examples where most native English speakers couldn't even tell you why one article should be used rather than the other.
Anyway enough grammar, thanks for another great video, looking forward to practicing this piece with your tips in mind.

Thanks for correcting me, the title is very important! I wish I would know and feel English as good as my mother languages😓 however this is a stupid mistake, I could guess🤣
Yes, reaching a true sensitivity and plasticity in touch is incredibly difficult, I have taught many even conservatory students who couldn’t imitate such seemingly simple gestures. It took me years of conscious practicing to reach a stage when I can get from a piano exactly the sound and timbre that I want. But it’s amazing you do care about that, and work in that direction, because for most of people such subtleties are not even necessary.

Where do your eyes go while playing this? Especially going from right to left. I often mishit keys before or after a jump. Like there is no spacial consistency. Btw, for me opus 10 no 9 is far easier.

Try practicing hands separately with closed eyes, develop a tactile sensation of the keyboard. Start slowly and take your time to find the necessary key and feel it with the finger, and only then press it.
But in general you can glance LH leaps, since the right hand is mostly close, and if you have a good fingering there is no need to watch it all the time.

@@DenZhdanovPianist Thank you for the quick response! I’m now playing Bach’s 2nd prelude in c minor for a while and funnily enough it’s become easier to play it with eyes closed and it sounds better!
I’ll try that with the etude as well, thanks again!

Учителю в школе кто-то платит, а конкретно - налогоплательщики, то есть фактически вы или тот кто вас обеспечивает.
Или может я должен вкладывать десятки рабочих часов бесплатно на производство подобных курсов, только потому что вы падки на халяву?
