once you get this song in your head it is incredibly hard to shake it out. this album is unbelievably strange, beautiful, and utterly addictive. great art.
Would have been impossible - the projection on him was as teen idol. Scott was bookish, emotionally intelligent and an artist. Something rather more than.
He was great 40 years ago! now he´s on his own, another space, another time, THE MOST UNCONFORTABLE ALBUM OF ALL TIME, but i love it and i can not stop hear it!
This song, and the entire album are mesmerizing to listen to. It completely sucks you in and envelops you in its atmosphere. Scott's vocal cords are ear worms for sure.
Good Stuff. The best fan video I've seen. In a perfect world, there is an afterlife, Scott Walker beat us there and is nursing a neverending bottle of gin.
I just glanced of your comment and saw Kronenberg and thought "what would a Scott Walker/David Cronenberg collaboration be like?". Can you imagine that? It would be trippy and fucking terrifying.
i love the way you mixed the imagery. it was gripping how you contrasted war footage with everyday life footage. whether intended or not, it makes a statement. wonderful.
Interesting juxtaposition of film and music. The music is brilliant and the editing, in rhythm with the drums, is excellent. I prefer listening to the album (The Drift) on its own, though, preferably very loud in a darkened room. Better than any horror movie.
im not responding to this video but those albums of scott walker are outrageous they are exactly what i want to hear, you should'dt need to explain why they are under the skin, brave unique grand artist.
Actually it was the other way around I chose the song for the footage. I was given footage to work with and had no ideas. None of it had sound so I was listening to music in the background and this song came on and was inspired. In the end the intention really became about life going on as normal at home remaining far removed from the horrors of whats going on elsewhere in the world.
I hope that horror movies could do this to me, some movies cant be very atmospheric but this is so intense, great album i just would like to hear music like this but i dont know anything else like this... but bohren der club of gore- black earth is pretty good doom jazz/horror jazz band ! i recommend it :) 5/5
I really enjoyed this. Generally, I can't stand "fan" videos on YT, especially ones that insist on heavy-handedly interpreting the music, but this was done with a craftsman's touch.
Also, great job on this video, guy! Don't think I didn't notice those edits starting around 1:30, they way they lock in with that erratic snare drum chatter. Good timing, guy!
@kingoftheelves The Footage I think is available online. It was funny it was a couple days after I put the video up on youtube and I saw a still on the front page of the Vancouver Sun, and there was a long article about the trolly footage.
@lunafesto Even more unsettling is the fact that he sang what would probably be considered the total opposite of this. It's like if the Beatles released two more albums after White that were composed entirely of songs similar to Revolution 9.
@kingoftheelves The reason for the mix had nothing to do with when the war happened and when the vancouver footage happened. It was first a found footage project, so I worked with what I had. The two together worked really well to outline the idea that while we go about our everyday lives All this other bad stuff is happening around the world.
Ever notice how the people are just crossing the railroad tracks? No different than today. I've come to the conclusion that people actually want to get hit so they can take the company to court.
I actually made this for a found footage project for an editing class in art school. I don't recall where the war footage was from the trolly car, and the troops in the tent were from an old film reel of Vancouver BC.
Thanks for introducing me to Anohini which I had not heard about before.. I agree - very similar to Scott Engel. This opinion is at the risk of yet again upsetting Kyle McLachlan. I guess, if you are that a passionate fan of Scott Walker, you are not allowed any opinion whatsoever otherwise.
I'm just saying, sorry if I came off as an asshole. I don't mind at all that you phrased it this way, I just found the other guys' comment annoying because kyle's correction was completely reasonable.
He was serious about doing what he loved. But as he said in an interview, there is occasional dark/weird humor in it. People have a hard time dealing with something that is serious and non serious at the same time. On the other hand, if you're not enjoying his later work at all it's probably not for you. I just happen to dig it ... But admittedly, I'm pretty odd. However, he was making rich soundscapes very early on...it's raining today, plastic Palace people, such a small love. So i consider that innovative part of him artistically legit. Fact is, his later work is dark and crazy: part of the reason for that is that he is possibly serious about having had nightmares most of his life and to some extent, his later work was an outlet for that and other sincere interests he had. You could make a similar argument out of Death Grips. There's both humor and more negative/sincere emotion in there. Considering the amount of material they have out there, it inevitably becomes a work of passion despite the occasional very elaborate joke in their lyrics.
It is great. If you don't like it, that's fine. But if you go around in life as condescending as you are being here, may I suggest auto erotic asphyxiation when your family is on holiday? Thanks.
once you get this song in your head it is incredibly hard to shake it out. this album is unbelievably strange, beautiful, and utterly addictive. great art.
this could have been such a big Christmas hit
ploperator you could easily picture it in the current top 10
Sesamestreet
He already has an "Xmas Song". Granted, it's about how a Romanian dictator was tried and executed... but still a christmas song.
Maybe a Krampus hit
Better than Mariah Scary.
I don't think anyone who listened to the Walker Brothers in the 60's imagined him doing something like this.
Hmm. It was foreshadowed, but no; no-one expected this.
Would have been impossible - the projection on him was as teen idol.
Scott was bookish, emotionally intelligent and an artist.
Something rather more than.
He was great 40 years ago! now he´s on his own, another space, another time, THE MOST UNCONFORTABLE ALBUM OF ALL TIME, but i love it and i can not stop hear it!
rip scott walker. thank you for the terrifying soundscapes
I just discovered this song a few months ago on a Gothic Spotify playlist. It’s been in my head ever since.
He saw the conflict that would signal the great pause in our trajectory. Greater than what we have experienced thus far.
This video deserves some kind of award. Very well done.
RIP Scott :-( Your music will live on
This song, and the entire album are mesmerizing to listen to. It completely sucks you in and envelops you in its atmosphere. Scott's vocal cords are ear worms for sure.
Good Stuff. The best fan video I've seen. In a perfect world, there is an afterlife, Scott Walker beat us there and is nursing a neverending bottle of gin.
I'm crying like a baby right now, goodbye Scott, you shall be missed
Not only is Scott Walker's music totally out of this world - but this video is over the TOP! Fantastic job on the editing...
One of the best ever made. Amazing composition.
I just glanced of your comment and saw Kronenberg and thought "what would a Scott Walker/David Cronenberg collaboration be like?". Can you imagine that? It would be trippy and fucking terrifying.
I'd go see it/buy it :D
Brilliantly edited video, great work aligning it to the strikes of the song. Powerful. Existential and filled with dread.
david bowie listened to this music and said it was music for musicians. perhaps this influenced blackstar.
I can 100% hear this in Blackstar
David Bowie has good taste
i love the way you mixed the imagery. it was gripping how you contrasted war footage with everyday life footage. whether intended or not, it makes a statement. wonderful.
*huffs own farts* mmm yes splendid
This video is perfect for this song.
Thank you
What a beautiful voice
When you listen to Scott Walker, the temperature of your blood drops. But it was never this rewarding to have cold blood...
The video work, particularly the little time leaps syncopated to the drum beat is exemplary. Fits the song supremely well. Chappo!
Scott Walker took an opportunity he had as a profitable artist to devote himself to confronting the 20th century head on.
BRILLIANT
Araki s yes
Early Vancouver and modern Scott Walker - great combo !!
I actually new him from some older stuff from the 60's but never really got into him till a little while back.
You could easily picture this in the current Top 10 (3:32).
You did a fantastic job! The video really complements the track especially now the Cossacks are charging again in Ukraine!!!
best track off DRIFT and cool imagery
Scott is a true visionary. Shamanic edge.
Great perception. Video journeys well and reflects the sombre lyric. The syncopated editing works well. Good job
Rip Scott Walker
What I was searching for without knowing.
I'm been looking for this forever.
this is a tsunami of talent...
the video rocks too. its one of if not my fav video on youtube, in terms of art nd editing
i could not agree more, genius interspersed with ads for cars and movies, do us all a favour and get rid of them
Very good work ! The images goes very well with the song. The whole is impressive. Congratulations.
The cossacks are charging in...those lyrics became a bit too real
great vid well done love this track
I hope that horror movies could do this to me, some movies cant be very atmospheric but this is so intense, great album i just would like to hear music like this but i dont know anything else like this... but bohren der club of gore- black earth is pretty good doom jazz/horror jazz band ! i recommend it :) 5/5

Excellent footage!
Aw, this song reminds me of my childhood
the song talk against cossacs ? I dont speak english, can you help me?
Great found footage work.
perfect match
well done
thanx
just perfect!
best video in time and space.
The superb Jolson and Jones (track 4) and Cue (track 5) are the best on the album. Always play them following each other.
Me encanta esa batería.
love it.
@NosotrosEterno The drumming on this reminds me strongly of "Banging the door" by Public Image limited.
Brilliant
EXCELLENT
Also, great job on this video, guy! Don't think I didn't notice those edits starting around 1:30, they way they lock in with that erratic snare drum chatter. Good timing, guy!
Thanks :)
Strong music, strong video
@Soilwar I think "that's a swanky suit" sounding terrifying is more of an achievement.
So good
+niallcolbeck yes Ed!
Hell yes Rory! Haha :)
+niallcolbeck Hope you had fun in Ibiza!
+Rory Peacock scott walkers return to form being a parellel to the reintroduyctiong of Old LAobur through the voting of corbyn
I wonder if Corbyn digged bish Bosch?
@kingoftheelves The Footage I think is available online. It was funny it was a couple days after I put the video up on youtube and I saw a still on the front page of the Vancouver Sun, and there was a long article about the trolly footage.
flowers of romance' vibes
scott 1,2,3,& 4!!!
My skin is crawling
Good song of bad world.
WOwwwwwwww!
@lunafesto Even more unsettling is the fact that he sang what would probably be considered the total opposite of this.
It's like if the Beatles released two more albums after White that were composed entirely of songs similar to Revolution 9.
Scott Walker is fucking crazy.
0:16 youre heartbeat when the mushrooms hit and the windows start breathing.
Haha. Very true.
Jean-Luc Godard brings me here.
5 people didn't understand a thing... it's sad...
(adding this to favorites)
I can´t understand the lyric, against cossacs or not?
@kingoftheelves The reason for the mix had nothing to do with when the war happened and when the vancouver footage happened. It was first a found footage project, so I worked with what I had. The two together worked really well to outline the idea that while we go about our everyday lives All this other bad stuff is happening around the world.
Were do you steal the coverage of Vancouver from from,Great
are some of the lyrics lifted from Scott reviews?
Ever notice how the people are just crossing the railroad tracks? No different than today. I've come to the conclusion that people actually want to get hit so they can take the company to court.
hey man i have the album and there are no ads on it!!
watershed...
It's totally okay. I was just stating where the clips came from.
I would assume the stark contrast?
WHAT THE HELL IS THIS MY GOODNESS!
fucking great song, remembering NicoLinkousFennesz
did vancouver trolley died?
Was this footage also used in Unforgivable Blackness, Ken Burns' documentary about Jack Johnson?
I actually made this for a found footage project for an editing class in art school. I don't recall where the war footage was from the trolly car, and the troops in the tent were from an old film reel of Vancouver BC.
@TheBullhannigan It's also totally uncompromising. Walker now makes the music he HAS to make for himself and nobody else.
for a similar effect, try diamanda galas' version of "gloomy sunday"
That's a swanky suit.

Great video, although WW2 didn't take place in 1907. In fact, WW1 hadn't even taken place at that point either.
@66richardson I'm sure he "did" more than one Joanna!
i'm fucking depressed
svend kjærbye might I recommend some ice cream? Haagen dazs strawberry cheesecake? That'll cheer you up.
Seriously, don't put a fucking ad in front of a Scott Walker song.
take out the ads!
His voice is reminiscent of Anohni's.
Scott Walker's voice is reminiscent of Scott Walker. Anyone else is reminiscent to Scott Walker.
+Charismaticart it does sound counter-intuitive to call scott walker reminiscent of an artist which he predates by 30 years, doesn't it?
***** Would you prefer it if I edited my comment?
I'm just saying, sorry if I came off as an asshole. I don't mind at all that you phrased it this way, I just found the other guys' comment annoying because kyle's correction was completely reasonable.
*at your comment
it all seems too weird...old 1907 movies of Vancouver mixed in with war movies from later years....it just doesn't mesh.......
listen to sten wilsons fluid tap. thank me later
steven*
Haha, replying to my own comment here. I just realized that you didn't mean that WW2 took place then. Nm, sorry.
I never really understood if Scot Walker is just some elaborate joke.
He was serious about doing what he loved. But as he said in an interview, there is occasional dark/weird humor in it. The Kings New Clothes Again!
Someone has told you this is great.
The voice is magnificent but the content is beyond horrible.
"Someone has told you this is great."
- Please, try to be a little more condescending .....just to see if it's possible.
It is great. If you don't like it, that's fine. But if you go around in life as condescending as you are being here, may I suggest auto erotic asphyxiation when your family is on holiday? Thanks.
"Someone has told you this is great."
And now here's someone else telling you it's not, what a magnanimous arbiter of taste you appear to be.
