After leaving the church and stopped paying tithing, my wife and I started putting the 10% into an emergency fund. It’s incredible how fast that fund has grown.
It's sad that 10% of a dollar (probably less) keeps people from the priceless blessings the Lord has to offer. At least you and your wife are together on that move (for a time). Hopefully you will some day see through the lies of the adversary and you and your precious wife will once again allow the plan of happiness to enter into your lives again.

So maybe now its closer to 5%? Which is better, but still hardly a charity. I'd be upset if I found out UNICEF was claiming to be a charity pulling these numbers..
That's actually what Jesus taught to do, give all our extra to the needy personally, so we know it all gets to them. He taught against trusting in formal religions or prophets or things like tithing. Tithing is a man made idea, designed to be much easier and sound better than what Jesus taught.

I went to Madagascar and not far from the airport is an LDS stake center right next to the US embassy, both buildings bright, beautiful, shiny, with a large, tall fence all around both. All around extreme poverty, I mean extreme, begging everywhere. I am a lifelong member and I was beyond astonished at that sight. It made me sick to the stomach.
I went to the Sikh golden temple, which is like the Salt Lake temple of sikhism. their doors are open for everyone, no matter what you wear or worthiness. They welcome you in, feed you let you hang around, sleep if you need. Then you have the LDS church flaunts its cash with fancy buildings, while putting up huge fences to keep out the unworthy people.
You simply can't enter the temple even if you are a member, unless you are worthy enough to recieved a temple recommend to make covenant with the Lord. That's why, the temple outside wordings said. Let us also not forget the D&C 64:23 outlines that if you pay tithing, you will not be burned at the 2nd coming. This implies that the statement "if you do not pay tithing, you will be burned" is also true. I have asked mormons to explain to me how this isn't a scam. People who believe give. People who believe obey. People who are willing to be subject to God and not fight Him, find his laws and obey them. I want to sincerely thank you for your time and efforts to make this video. It’s a shame so many will still view anything that cast’s the lds church in a negative light to be anti-Mormon. However, the lds church is changing over time slightly for the better because of exposure like this! I can only hope, at some point in time, tithing will be handled differently, as many will continue to pay blindly or fearfully.
And many pay faithfully because first they obeyed, then they were blessed in any number of pertinent ways, and their faith has become knowledge that this is a great law of the Lord. I love this law.
You say many members of the church will continue to pay tithing blindly or fearfully? You’re wrong. We love the law of tithing because it is the Lord’s promised way to bless God’s children and also tithing is the Lord’s way to advance the mission of his church to preach the restored gospel to the world, to perfect the saints, to build temples for sacred ordinances for the living and the dead, and to help the poor and the needy. In short, to invite all peoples of the world to Come Unto Christ. This is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
You forgot to mention the "modest stipend" that the General Authorities receive. That money has to come from tithing also yet we are told the LDS church does not have a paid ministry. So that too is a lie.
When I was about 12 or 13 years old I remember a neighbor being really upset, her husband had lost his job, it was close to Thanksgiving, she asked Bishop to help them with food, I remember her saying that the Bishop refused, she said that she felt like a criminal, I remember her being very distressed. They soon moved and I never saw them again. Giving food or financial help is up to the discretion of the Bishop?
Hi @BartonBagnes, I guess you deleted your message. I just wanted to say that you for sure don’t have to believe me at all, it’s just my experience with the bishop’s store house and not representative of the whole church, and for you to say that you’ve heard of people bragging (BTW who does that? Who brags about church assistance? Weird.) doesn’t mean that the church only has loving caring members, because it doesn’t. There’s good and there’s bad, so chill on the defensive apologetics. Thanks.
It is not totally at the discretion of the bishop. Financial help is not initially provided through tithing funds. It starts with fast offering funds (FOF). Sometimes the needs of ward members exceeds FOF. The bishop is allowed to spend more than what is available in FOF which will be covered by tithing fund with the approval of the stake president. If the bishop lacks money too often from FOF, he will be reminded of two things from his stake president: first, teach your members to be more generous in fast offerings and, second, spend money from the fund more wisely! As a former bishop, this has frustrated me much and often. I was seeking out for the poor and the needy in my ward regularly. I was not waiting for them to come and ask for help. I would get many warnings until I have decided to refuse any callings from the church leaders. The church will cover up from other wards' FOF where there is less poor and needy. Since members have no access to church's expenditure, members have no clue what is happening with any funds.
I've known some who got help especially food but a few got some bills paid that was cool...It comes from the ward the person would be in so if it's a poor area there's less funds to help the members. They should change that and it could be far more helpful .
And if you're always really broke, you're supposed to get the idea that you need to give even MORE so you'll be more "worthy " of more "blessings," right?
Same tactic the socialists use to get a stranglehold on a nation. Make it so people can't make their own way, and have to depend on the government for their needs, and then they'll be subservient, obedient, and supportive of governmental overreach and control.
What on earth are you talking about? If you have no money and get some from the Church, then what's the trap? I've gotten money from the Church when dead broke, there's no trap.
When hearing about the SEC settlement, I was honestly not too surprised about the settlement happening, when you covered in 50 problems with the Mormon Church pt.1 you mentioned that the church hasn't been transparent on it's finances since 1959 and I knew it was only a matter of time before they would be called out for it and it finally happened.
As a convert I paid my tithing over paying the irs and the state nearly $3k. Fast forward a year I now find myself in bankruptcy because of the cost of living increases and putting that $3k on credit cards. Not a single “blessing “ was received. Not unless you include getting rejected and ghosted by my own sister missionary, and over 500 sisters. Joining the church has turned into a complete nightmare for me and will be the single most catastrophic failure of my lifetime
I would suggest that next time you pay everything as you go and not let it pile up, that was your big mistake. I may not agree with the leaders and feel they are far astray and absolutely can lead us astray, I have experienced the blessings of paying my tithing and it doesn't come from or through the church it comes from God.
It is better pay our thiting to emergency needs and we can help people in need or in medication with that, not pay to the bussiness believe system such as churches.
It's unfortunate that you have been misled. All federal and state taxes can be put on a very small payment plan and most of it actually forgiven with the writing of a short letter; especially in your financial situation. Paying unpaid taxes on a credit card is a disaster and whoever told you to do that should be hung by their toes. Find a financial expert that can help you with this, you need the help. You will not learn financial savviness from friends or parents, you need the advice of experts (and some schooling).
I remember when Dallin H. Oaks was called to be president of a Far East mission, years ago. He required all the dirt-poor, adult, male members to show up, to their Sunday meetings, in a white shirt 👕 (sorry, not green 💚, nor short sleeves). The cost of that one shirt was like a month's worth of regular wages. Oaks didn't care: to look like a "white-collar person" was more important to him than anything. (And, it exemplified Dallin's emphasis on two of his own intrinsic 'values': conformity and uniformity.) Now, if Elder Ronald E. Poelman had been supremely cognizant of those two 'values', he, himself, would not have made his huge blunder (cough, cough), in a talk he gave in October 1984... Hmm! 1984 Orwell would be pleased.

I have directed my tithing to the charity hospice that cared for both me, as a carer and my late wife, who had ALS, in the last months of her life. It needs the money far more than the church does. I accept the "punishment....."
In the Old Testament tithing was not required by all and it was not money. The New Testament introduced the concept of grace giving. The 10% of your annual income idea is man made and not from the Lord. And any religious organization that requires or puts pressure on people to give money is clearly not Christian. You should give to your local church because you want to and not because you have to or are trying to get something out of it.

OK, so the law of tithing is not only that tithe payers will store up great blessings for themselves in heaven but also wealth on earth that will lift them out of their poverty. But if tithing is the poor person's way out of poverty, should we conclude that any member who is still poor is disobedient to the law of tithing? How did the General Authorities of the LDS Church get so wealthy? Did they pay significantly more than a tenth of their increase to compensate for the effect of the "widow's mite" in the treasury that outweighs their contributions, paid out of their surplus? What about Mitt Romney and J. W. Marriott, Jr.? Is tithing the secret of their excessive wealth? One might deduce from this logic that wealth in the hands Latter-day Saint is a dependable indicator of righteousness, not merely evidence of the love of money, but then what could Jesus possibly have meant when he claimed it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter heaven? I recommend mantra meditation or breath meditation, where you set aside say 15 minutes and focus on your mantra or breath and anytime your mind wanders you bring your mind back to the mantra or breath. This is far more helpful than going to the temple. I was miserable because of the hypocrisy of church members and had a real poor self esteem. I discovered mantra meditation after reading Meditation for Dummies and would choose a positive mantra and meditate on it 45 minutes 5 days a week for 18 months. This really boosted my self esteem and made me 10x happier than going to church and the temple. Can't recommend mantra meditation enough. Mormon church doesn't teach this kind of meditation. When I was LDS some poor members came to the bishop for help in meeting their needs. The church will lend you money, which you are required to pay back, sometimes by doing some kind of labor. I worked on the stake ranch a number of times without pay. I did also inventory work with other members, and the pay for that work went to the church. We used our own vehicles and paid for our meals on these assignments, plus my father and I cleaned our church building without pay. I was always amazed why the church had to have such elaborate temples where every material is the finest available. I know that church leaders say that God dwells in those temples, thus they have to have the best things, to be worthy of the Lord. But none of the ordinances performed in a temple require such elaborate surroundings. They could be done in more modest settings and save some of the money for more useful and charitable purposes. How does building a fancy mall accomplish the purpose of helping the poor?

Im not looking for an argument or for anyone to be defensive, just genuinely curious why people spend a lifetime fighting against the church?
I haven't spent a "lifetime." These videos don't take long to make. I make them because I think people make better choices with more information. I spent 25 years in the church, and I would have left much sooner if I knew half of the things on this channel.

And yet most of the members are still not aware of this.
Thanks.
The Bishop, is responsible to the Lord, not the whole church.
They should change that and it could be far more helpful

The people should keep their real money and the church can keep their imaginary. Blessings!
The less money you have, the more you have to rely on the church for assistance. It's a trap.

OK, so the law of tithing is not only that tithe payers will store up great blessings for themselves in heaven but also wealth on earth that will lift them out of their poverty. But if tithing is the poor person's way out of poverty, should we conclude that any member who is still poor is disobedient to the law of tithing? Mormon tithing is not a freewill offering. If you miss a tithing payment, you will be ridden very hard. People have been coerced into taking out a loan on their house in order to catch up on tithing payments. But is the bank which granted the loan which may go into default going to freeze the loan until one gets caught up? No, the bank is going to file a court order with the sheriff and out you and your family go into the streets.
You don’t have to catch up on tithing payments if you’re struggling, just repent and start again that’s what I was told if you can afford to back pay then do it but if you can’t just start over.

I hear you, but what are temples supposed to be built with? Unskilled member labor?
@@bloviax Temples and churches are made up unnecessary even destructive concepts. Jesus did not teach temples or churches, in fact he taught against formal religions and prophets, for they always lead people astray teaching truths mixed with falsehoods, for none are perfect. Even if temples or even churches were a true principle, which they are not, people could meet in houses or outside in tents or under a tree, like they did even in Joseph Smith's day before temples and churches were built. Joseph Smith used the temple differently anyway, for church or dances or public activities, not how BY started using them. As in so many religions, big fancy churches and buildings help promote belief. While taking care of the needy is how Jesus said you get to heaven, not by building and using impressive buildings. To build a church or temple to preach or practice in while there are people suffering from need is a sin which will keep you out of heaven.
Yeah. I’ve tested tithing for over 40 years and have concluded that it’s not a true principle.
Some people feel better when they pay tithing, based on the culture they've been indoctrinated in since birth. I really regret all the money I paid in tithing, and wish I had sent it to actual worthy, needy charities who actually do something worthwhile with it besides just pontificate, propagate, and populate.
The LDS church does more service than any charity ever has or will. That’s just you thinking that instead of actually looking at where the money is going.

I love your closing statement, if the church did those things, and became more friendly to LGB I probably would go back (just for the people, the story of Smith and the BOM is a joke). The most sincere and kind people are in that church.
This was a fantastic summary. Thank you!
The only time during the year the local leader meets with the congregation is to ask them about how much money they gave the church.
I am and always have been on the edge of poverty. I make too much for help, yet barely can pay my bills. I am denied a temple recommend because I can't pay tithing. I used to pay bills with credit cards so I could pay it. I refuse to do that anymore. It wasn't an original requirement for temple entrance. When did that happen and under what prophet? Has the bishop helped? No, not a bit.
Stopped going to church as they deceived me about what true meditation is and they teach that feelings like fear, anger, jealousy and pride are evil. I am an INFP personality type. My dominant trait is feelings.
These Men are truly Evil
Who's getting rich off my tithing? Do they own the companies that build the temples? Nope. There is no huge cabal of oligarchs scraping money off tithing. This whole thing really is the building up of the kingdom of God on the earth and the establishment of Zion.
OMG. This so EVIL. You must pay tithing to receive the blessing of the church? Everyone needs to think hard about that. U have to buy blessing? That's one of the reason I dont believe in a religion.
I just don't get it. Do they honestly think it's God's commandment and pay tithing brings blessings???
Yes, they do.
Yes. My parents said my brother'a car only worked when he paid his tithing.
Yes. That is the Biblical law of tithing!
When I was on my mission, we used to teach investors that not paying tithing was the equivalent of robbing God.
Yes I do. Yes it does. It's very freeing. I lust after shiny stuff way way less and it's been great. I feel unease about money and the world much less, and it's been great, and it's been decades.

Thank you sir. I was a TBM for 20+ years, paid boat loads of tithing. Quit the church about 15 years ago, haven’t really noticed any changes in my life circumstances except now I have saved quite a bit of money. I suspect that TSCC’s modern insistence on paying tithing has more to do with creating a sense of dependency within its membership. A sense of saving for a rainy day except I think that TSCC horribly abuses the consequent power imbalance.

Malachi 3:10 was written to the Levitical priesthood, which was robbing God. They were keeping the portion of the tithe which was suppose to be fiven to thenwisowed, the orphaned andthe poor..
The church is using coercion, shame, and holding peoples salvation hostage. These quotes are disgusting and shows how little compassion the leadership has for it's believers.
People want the progress without living the laws, how's that gonna work? I can see how frustrated they must get with people being so unwilling to have a little faith over a decent span of time. Christ always complained about people that wouldn't give just a little faith and kept clinging to the things they could see with their eyes and hold in their hands. It bugged him too!

I haven't spent a "lifetime." These videos don't take long to make. I make them because I think people make better choices with more information. I spent 25 years in the church, and I would have left much sooner if I knew half of the things on this channel. @@TheMormonInformant Thanks for sharing, I definitely respect your opinion. The first thing I thought of after reading your comment was why then do we all pay taxes? The leaders of our country are so far from being stand up ethic citizens (both red and blue). Do I pay taxes, absolutely... am I happy doing it... absolutely not. but I do it because it's the law.
