Camping Trip Surprises Are The Best... Embrace Them! // Tugaloo Georgia State Park
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 сер 2024
- Even though we had to backtrack to find a GA State Park campsite on a weekend we're glad we did because Tugaloo State Park ended up being one of those awesome surprises. We've learned it's not usually the Grand Canyon stops that leave a lasting impression... well they do for sure, but the ones that are real surprises... where your expectations are not set too high and then... then... it turns out to be a jewel! That was the case with Tugaloo State Park in Georgia.

hahahahaha.... "that looks like our van!.... wait a minute... that IS our van!" LOVE IT! ❤❤
Yep, that’s what happens when you get turned around.
It’s good to see Owen feeling a little better. That’s was cute him riding on that scooter. Glad he was he was able to do the hike. Also he was able to you some hamburger steaks. That looked really good!
I’m not so sure it was a good idea for him to ride that scooter with his back… but he’s been talking about for so long and i guess it was good for him to try it out. Thanks for watching,
I think Owen was enjoying that scooter just a little to much! LOL
Yes, he was… he’s been wanted one for quite some time now.
What a great relaxing park. And that burger and veggies, Owen, you really put your brand on it. Thanks so much for your helpful and hospitable channel. Thank you for sharing.
You are so welcome and thank you for watching.
We appreciate the good fun you two have. Like each of the other state parks we have visited, (5-6 to date), Tugaloo looks beautiful. Thank you for sharing! I'm happy to see Owen in a more mobile condition. Your dinner looked as good as it must have tasted. Safe travels and we look forward to your impression of both Unicoi and Helen.
This area has been so surprising with all the great things to do and see and very diverse. I’ll have to say there are things we have loved about all the places we have visited on this trip.
Love your bloopers 😂
Thanks, we appreciate you watching until the end.
Bless you two. Thanks again for sharing. Safe travels.
You are so welcome and thank you for watching.
You said it correct Owen. Worcestershire sauce is not only great on burgers, but here in Scotland I love it on roasted cheese on toast! Love your content and seeing the lovely state parks. Take care Lynn, Owen and Maggie! About to watch your next vlog about Helen, Georgia!
Thanks so much Linda for watching and commenting.
You guys manage a sliver lining from every cloud and the hamburger steak with mushrooms and all those veggies looked amazing. Owen, don’t be abusing that back! It’s got to last you many more years. Take care now!
We do try to look at the silver lining, it makes life more enjoyable. I keep telling Owen the same thing about his back. It’s just hard for him to not do all the things he wants/needs to do. Thanks for the comment.
Go Owen...cooking, scooter, and hike!!!
I know, but I think he did to much in one day.
Night and day difference in that Ekko. So apparent in your recent videos. Happy for you three. Continue sitting while happy dancing. Preservation for that lower back and cassette toilet duty.
Thank you. Owen needs to work his way back to the proper happy dance.
The next time you go back to N IA to the factory, come up I-24 to I-57 and make it a stop at the Gun Creek Campground on Rend Lake, we always stop there going to see the grandbabies in Chicago. The only caveat is to do it not during acorn season. We also did it during deer season and woke up to a sea of gunshots at the nearby state park & nearly every campsite had a deer hanging from an oak tree, LOL. Fortunately, that is a November thing!
Thanks for the suggestion, we will put in on our list but I’m hoping we don’t have to go back to the factory… wishful thinking 😁!
Congrats 🎉 on reaching 17K. 100K just around the next bend…. Great video. Thanks for taking us along.
Not sure we'll live that long to see 100K. 😂 BTW, I took down a comment that you were very, very supportive of us regarding the cassette toilet. Just wanted you to know in case you didn't see it that we love that you have our back and are so supportive. Your knowledge of all things camping is super impressive and very helpful to us too. Glad you're part of the team. -Owen
@@VANTREKKINGlifestyle I saw it… thanks… you two are amazing people that share I vthe experience. Can’t wait till our Ekko finally arrives. May we meet on the journey someday. Take care of that back of yours. That’s the one injury I dread and dislike the most. Best 🙏
Scrolling thu UA-cam and see Tugaloo State Park. That's my park! Lol I'm a local and worked there in the park as housekeeping supervisor over the cottages for years. I'm retired but don't live very far away..Hartwell,Ga. Too-ga-low..a beautiful place.
What a gem of a park! Glad you found us! Enjoy your retirement. Guess we butchered the name huh? 😂
Great video! Bloopers were funny! Oh no Owen did too much his back hurts him again. Hope he’s ok! I hope he gets better soon! I’ll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Love you both!
Thanks for your prayers… Owen is feeling a lot better.
@@VANTREKKINGlifestyle
Glad to hear he’s feeling better. You and Maggie also helped him in getting better. 😊
Do not let Owen buy a scooter without a helmet & the elbow/knee pads, we are not 10 years old anymore and I cannot tell you how many close friends I have lost over the most recent years due to head trauma and their spouses receiving severe compound fractures to knees and arms. Ouch! That said, you cannot tell Maggie that the thrill of hanging her head out the window isn't worth the risk to getting bugs in her eyes!!!! Love you guys!
I totally agree with you on the scooter, it did scare me when he hopped on it without a minutes thought especially with his back. However, Maggie will disagree with hanging her head out the window… it is worth all the bugs that go in my eyes, it is her most favorite thing. Maybe we should get her some goggles.
It is cool to see a photo you took on the internet.I have one from a tower crane i was on at the top of the freedom Tower floating around the web.
That’s cool. Thanks for sharing.
Loved the video. Simple and restful. Since we downsized to our little van, we really get to experience the "Back country" gems. Our "kitchen" is out the back, chuckwagon style. Simple food is the best, I could small yours from here. We live out of the van, not in it but because of mobility limitations, what we see out the windows is the trip, driving or sittin' out by the campfire taking it all in....James
Sounds like you have a good setup and you are out there enjoying yourselves. That’s what life is all about.
Really enjoyed this video, grew up in that area and spent many days on Hartwell. As a matter of fact, will be just North of there in a few weeks at Tallulah Falls. Tugaloo River is created when the Tallulah and Chatooga Rivers merge.
All that area of NE Ga. Is home to me.
There are too many things to list that are worth while in the area.
Hope you enjoy!
We did enjoy that are a lot but I’m sure we did not even scratch the surface of all the great things to do.
Enjoying your adventures- I was your shuttle van driver when you hitched a ride back up the mountain on your 1st visit to the Virginia Creeper Trail in Damascus several years ago. Hope to see you again soon at Sundog Outfitters !
Well that is just the coolest thing to hear. We will probably return this summer for another bike ride and we'll be sure to try and find you. Thanks for keeping up with us all these years. 👍❤️
Looking good Owen! Slow and steady wins the race and heals the back. 😉
I think Owen is finally realizing slow and steady is the way to go. Thanks for your comment.
Very nice! Hope your back is feeling better.
Thank you. We appreciate you watching.
Thank you! Feel better, Owen. Thanks for all you share :))
You are so welcome and thank you for watching.
Great video guys! New Sub here..... and I really appreciate how "real" y'all are with your audience. One day I hope to go FT as well. Hope you continue to recover from all the fun you had during your stay there Owen! Much love to y'all from Washington State! 🥰💕❤️
Thank you so much for subscribing. I do want to say we are not FT, we do take 3-4 month trips but we still have a sticks and bricks. Good luck going FT though.
Enjoyed spending time with y'all this morning. We have been buy that park a hundred times on the way to South Carolina and never stopped. Next time we will. May your back pain ease and the rain stop. Happy tails and safe travels.
The park is worth a stop… a very nice surprise.
Man that EKKO sure looks good walking up to it. So a scooter is next? Hahaha Hi Maggie!!! Cheers 😙🥂😘
Not sure I’m sold on the scooter. There are a lot mor things on the list.
Thanks for sharing looks like a nice place to visit. The hamburger steak really look good.
You are so welcome and thank you for watching.
Y’all always figure out a way to have fun no matter what the circumstances or the weather. But if you get along generally, love each other and enjoy each other’s company, then you can figure it out - no matter what. Enjoyed seeing the park - looked like a lovely place to explore. Looking forward to your adventures in Helen. Hope you got to the Bavarian Restaurant for their fresh, hot pretzels. Yum!
We do try to have fun no matter what, but we did consider if we should go home since Owen was hurt. It’s a hard decision. But we are still out here and we’ll share Helen Ga next week.
We have e-scooters and we love them. Also have eBikes. The scooters are great to get around the campground, are light and fold up easily. Owen, go for it!
What kind of scooters do you have? Which one do you like best> bike or scooter?
@@VANTREKKINGlifestyle We have Unagi E500 scooters and Rad mini eBikes. The scooters are convenient because we can carry them inside of our RV -they are easily folded and only weigh 27lbs. We bought them at full price; they are now $599. Excellent quality, 250lb max weight, tires won’t go flat, but range is only about 15-20miles. For us, they’re great to “scoot” around the neighborhood or the larger campgrounds like Ft. Wilderness or some of the state parks. We also looked at Segway and a few others. Our considerations included weight, tires (we didn’t want to worry about getting flats), features, aesthetics, portability and convenience. Others may be better, but will now cost a bit more. The eBikes are good because you can go much farther, but they are heavy and take just a bit more prep to put them on the back of our RV. We bought our Rads based on your videos 😁
I've noticed your attached cutting board to your outdoor stove table. We went the cheap route and made one from plywood with a little tong oil. Sure bets the collapsible supplied sink! Safe travels!
Great minds think alike.
You look like you were having too much fun on that scooter! Hope your back is doing better! Hamburger steak looked yummy!
Owen’s been wanting a scooter forever. He loved it…
You guys are really special people - Maggie included. Thanks for being a friend. My new 'solo' lifestyle gets lonely and makes me down sometimes. Your kindness and encouragement this past week was a warm sweater on a very cold day. Owen, I'm so glad you are getting around a little better. Those beautiful trails would've made me try to walk on them, too. Thanks for all you do to take me along. Peace & Prayers. BTW, You are almost HALF-WAY to 18,000 at the writing of this!
Thank you Grace, you are so sweet and inspiring. We appreciate you riding along with us and leaving us such wonderful comments. We hope to meet you on the road soon.
Great state park and so peaceful. I was wondering as you walked in the wooded part do you ever have a safety concern being around the wildlife, with and without Maggie, such as bear? Do bring anything along with you on the hikes? As a soon to be solo traveler with my Maggie and Max, just wanting an idea on what I should consider bringing along. They enjoy their walks too! 😉 My bucket list includes seeing as many state and national parks as I can, which will be different because my husband and I used to travel & stay in KOA type parks. As always thank you for the videos and information you share…..love tagging along and getting ideas. Happy tails 🐶
No surprise that you two always seem to come up with the most interesting places to camp and eat. Like a really cool vacation without getting out in the cold now that winter has arrived. I think the State Parks are my favorite places to camp. A bad day of camping is still better than a good day at work, or being buried under lots of snow. Safe travels and belly rubs for the little one.👍🇺🇸🙋🏼♀️🚗🐕. ( My vet suggested a tube of YUK for one of my dogs that would not stop licking her leg, it may work for Maggie)
@@judystreich7333 Dare we imagine what a tube of YUK is? The things we've seen Maggie eat we can't imagine what it must be for her to not lick it off. 😂😂😂
I always enjoy your videos! When one pops up, I watch! Owen, you should probably go see a Chiropractor! You are walking a bit crooked. 😢 Love to you, Lynn and Maggie! 💕🙏🥰
I keep telling him he needs to go to the Chiropractor… thanks for the reinforcement.
Nice video, enjoyed. Love seeing the fall leaves, pretty. Glad Owen is doing some better, best to not overdo. Love all of the north Ga SPs. Helen is fun during the Oktoberfest, but gets a lil too busy at times. Keep enjoying life, rain or shine. 🙂👍
Yes, we purposely missed Oktoberfest and the crowds. But man we loved it there. Will be in next Sunday's video. Thanks for always being with us!
@@VANTREKKINGlifestyle I'll be looking forward to it.
Moccasin Creek State Park, it's not too far from Helen. It's small and Is on Lake Burton, beautiful there. They have a fish hatchery and some nice hiking trails. Love your videos!
Thanks for the suggestion. We’ll put in on our list for next time.
Love Tugaloo, one of our favorite Ga Parks, especially if you get a premium site on the water. A couple of years ago we stayed Thanksgiving week and the two sites next to us were families who brought a pickup load of pallets and spent 3 days busting, sawing and hammering Christmas signs from them. Really ruined a peaceful holiday. Hey, we headed up to Blairesville, Ga to moochdock with our brother and after passing Tallula Falls Park I saw an Echo, Nov. 8, but couldn't see if it was ya'll. If you have time book a site in Moccasin o
I hate it when people take away your peacefulness. We woke up to fireworks this morning at 6:30 that lasted for an hour. That wasn’t us at Talulah on the 8th, we left on the 4th. It would be great to see you on the road sometime.
Another excellent video. I know how hard it must be to produce every week. I don’t like editing. So much time for little personal reward for me. Must start back though. Can’t wait to see you guys later this week. David and Juanita aka grey goose adventures
I’m glad Owen is the one that edits. We are so looking forward to seeing you guys too.
Love and appreciate your weekly videos. Happy travels😎
Thank you, we appreciate you watching.
Owen still Rockin that Detroit Lean I see!! Get better soon.
“Detroit Lean” 🤣… he is getting better, if he doesn’t do something crazy and hurt it again. Thanks for your comment.
If you can book a state park campsite only one week in advance, you are very blessed indeed! Out west, you need to book a year or more in advance to get a state park site. Same for popular forest service campsites. I grew up on the east coast and remember the days you could pull into any campground and take your pick from several sites. Not any more. The spontaneity is gone. Even boondocking sites are often all taken.
We have been lucky, sometimes we try last minute at state park to see if there are any cancellations especially in more popular places.
I hope ya'll have a Blessed day also !
Thank you. I hope your day is blessed also.
We are going your way next month nice spot have fun
Sounds great!
I see a scooter in your future. I have one…but it is foot powered.
I'm discussing with the finance manager of our journey. HAHA. I think it does fit inside the garage of the RV better. But it doesn't really replace an eBike for us so for now we'll just be like you guys and drag them on the hitch behind us.
Favorite time of the year for me. Glad to see Owen is on the mend...Happy Trails 🐕
I love this time of year too… it’s becoming my favorite time too.
Great video you two. Watch it on that scooter Owen.
That scooter made me pretty nervous too. Thanks for watching.
I knew you two had a great videos and I am so happy that you are up to 17K !! Enjoyable video with the scenery and Maggie chasing squirrels!!! Thank you for sharing this with me. As always BS & BK & BC !!!
You are so welcome and thank you for always being with us. Much appreciated.
Love my Sunday morning with Lynn, Owen and Maggie. We love to use state parks as overnights on our travels and look forward to your videos of new places to put on my bucket list. Like Owen I have back problems and can’t hike like I used to. Liked some of the Maggie perspectives in the video. Maybe she needs a Maggie cam. Til next week. Thanks.
Sorry we share that in common. It's a pain for sure and it makes everything you do a little harder doesn't it? We've done a Maggie-cam a few times. Will try to bring it back. Thanks for being with us.
Thank you for showcasing the state parks of my home state. I'm ashamed to say I haven't visited them all so I'm looking forward to what you guys experience. Thanks for sharing.
Our pleasure! Don't be ashamed at all. It's actually harder to plan to see every park in your own state... you're too close to home so something always draws you back there. And when you're planning it's just human nature to go somewhere "different". We have been to a lot of our NC State Parks... but not all of them!
Another great video. Get well soon Owen! I see a scooter in your future maybe for xmas! :o)
Owen’s been wanting a scooter forever. Maybe Christmas.
What a lovely park! I’ll bet that’s a hoppin’ place in the Summer.
Nurse Lis talking - it’s time to see a Chiropractor to get you back in alignment, Owen. Those injured tissues/muscles become inflamed, stay that way, and then it takes even longer to heal. Ice packs, some gentle horizontal stretches, a TENS unit to increase blood flow to injured area(s), and I SWEAR by Arnica Gel. It’s a homeopathic gel that not only relieves pain but inflammation as well - and the best part, it really does work!
I use Arnica Gel made by Boiron; truly is great stuff. You can find it at any drug store, grocery or chain store.
Safe travels wherever you are and hugs for sweet lil’ Maggie. Be well.
Thank you sweet friend. I actually am a lot better today than I've been in a while. I was much better earlier this week but when putting the bikes back on the rack I did it again so it was days of icing and resting. But I'll get Arnica Gel if we can find it. Thanks for caring. Maggie says thanks for the hugs... she never gets those around here you know. 😂❤️
@@VANTREKKINGlifestyle So glad to hear you’re doing better; back pain is no fun at all. I don’t know why, but UA-cam isn’t even alerting me of your replies to my comments. I read in today’s Sunday video that you found some Arnica gel. Keep it on hand because it’s a wonder - if you have a sore wrist, run into something with your leg and get bad bruise, bad back, tight shoulder, etc., that Arnica works wonders. Just be sure to use it at least 3 to 4 times per day; it actually reduces inflammation (which causes the pain) and also cools the injured tissue(s). I don’t leave home without it lol. Take care; safe travels and be well - hugs for sweet Maggie.
The burgers looked great! I hope you get a scooter Owen.
Owen’s been eyeing a scooter for awhile now… so we’ll see.
Whoa! Back up! Need more info on the scooter!❤
Researching. That one was pretty cool though!
Take care Owen 🙏🏻. You guys are great🥰🥰🥰. Maggie 🥰
Thank you, we appreciate your kind comment.
You go to bed with a fire going? 😳
When i heard the 'call it a day' i thought it was time for pie & Brian & Michelle (LivinRVision or sonething like that) were going to make an appearance! 😄
Have fun!
We wish they would show up since we have so much in common with them. Maybe one day. No the fire was out. We'd never do that. Sometimes we may go inside for a closing shot for the video but most of the time the fire is out before heading inside. The reflection during this video was actually the fire of the camp host right across the road from us. 👍
Looks like the cassette really puts you up close & personal with your "waste". It's a pass for me. 😂 However, Owen's advice about protecting your wife can be applied to all aspects of your life. Too much "protection" is actually harmful.
Good point!
What a great park! We have come to love GA SPs! We have not been to Tugaloo, but is definitely on our list, now. I think the scooters would definitely take up less space than an e-bike, but I wouldn't want to fall off either. What do you think, Lynn, would you trade your bike for a scooter? Thanks for bringing us along on this beautiful trip. Give sweet Maggie a hug for us! Much love from SC, Jane ❤🙏
Jane, I would not trade my bike for a scooter, I do like getting the exercise when I ride and I don’t see getting much exercise with a scooter. Owen would trade in a heart beat. Thanks so much for joining us this morning.
@@VANTREKKINGlifestyle ❤️
I have a lower back problem, when it goes out I use AUVON 24 Modes Dual Channel TENS EMS Unit, and so far it works you might want to check it out.
Thanks for the great suggestion!!! We have a Tens Unit that we travel with and Owen has used it several times during this bout with his bad back.
Worcestershire sauce…”Did I say that right?” Lol I heard someone say it was called “wash your sister sauce.!”
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! That might be the funniest way to say it yet!
Always enjoy your videos. As a physiotherapist, I would like to suggest an abdominal binder (Amazon has them) and hiking poles for Owen specially for hilly terrain. This gives his back some protection while it’s still healing from injury and prevent re-injury while enjoying the outdoors.
Thanks for the advice and love. We'll research that. He is doing much better today... but that's when he usually hurts it again.
Hi. If you happen to see this, would you happen to remember which site you were at?
We just booked for this fall and we didn't get a chance to ride through to see firsthand. But I just wanted some place with water and I think the site that we found at least has a view of the water. We're not on it but at least we can wake up and look out and see it.
Great video.
It was site #59.
worse-ta-sher (or woos-ta-sher) sauce. Never woo-stuh-shire or worse-tuh-sheer. 'Nuff said. 😝
And since we're on the subject.... Caesar salad (named not after an ancient Roman but for an Italian who owned a restaurant in Mexico named Caesar), was made NOT with anchovies, but with worcestershire sauce that, as you now know, has anchovies in it.
And now you know... and knowing is half the battle. Not sure what the other half of the battle is, but I'm too hungry now to care. Wanna go get some Caesar salad?
Caesar salad sounds good! Thanks for sharing all your wonderful knowledge.
Looks like air pressure on Owen’s right side is a bit low. He needs a little “on bod” air compressor to fix that up!
I only wish the air compressor would fix it 😁. He is getting better.
@@VANTREKKINGlifestyle trekking poles will help
Ah, Owen… you look like my husband does when his back is acting up. I can tell by that crooked, canted walk. He’s a huge hiker, active and trim like you, but he’s also 82 this week and those things start catching up with you. Luckily you have a ways to go to get to be *that* old, but it’s good to pay attention to the signs and signals and get on top of it when you’re younger.
(PS, you were close on the Worcestershire pronunciation but it’s a little more compressed: “Wustashur” or “Worstershur”)
Tell your husband Happy Birthday this week. We hope to get Owen an appointment for the Chiropractor when we get home. Thanks for sharing your comment and for the pronunciation for Worcestershire.
I won a bet one time saying there was anchovies in whisker sauce
I guess I need to start reading the ingredients… it is good.
Have you tried trekking poles for a little extra support for your back
We do have trekking poles and Owen has been using them. Thanks for the suggestion.
Really enjoyed this video. 2 questions thou, 1st, Owen I noticed you are leaning to your right while walking. Am I correct in assuming that is for comfort and not a natural lean going forward. If its natural, you may want to get that checked out. 2nd, do you know if the lake is way down cause of a drawn down or is it now a concern for the state park? Be safe and Be Well.
First thanks for the concern over my back. Believe me it's been a journey for sure. The "leaning" while walking is happening due to muscle spasms and only happens on bad days. These days it's less and less so I'm definitely getting better. The lake? It's down because of drought and draw. Ranger stated the lake was down almost 50 inches this summer. And the morning we were there was the morning of the dam release as well... so it was really low.
Does the Solo stove eliminate or minimize the smoke in your face while sitting around the fire?
It does but it depends. If any of the wood is burning above or near the top of the rim of the fire pit then there will be smoke. Not as much but still some. If the wood is green there will still be a little too. But for the most part it does what it advertises and keeps smoke down.
More Maggie please
Will do.
Are the plates insulated?
Yes the plates are insulated and good and sturdy.
