    This is WONDERFUL!!! Solves a number of riddles I have had for a while. I grow my blueberries, and there is only so much jam you can (or want to) make. Thank you. This is great for a number of reasons.

      Sure you can can them in water! But you have to use a pressure canner and they probably turn to mush

    Also, how do you "thicken" it for pie filling? Thanks.

    • @OurHalfAcreHomestead
      @OurHalfAcreHomestead  2 роки тому +1

      When I go the make the pie..I strain the blueberries. Pouring the juice into a pot putting the berries in the pie shell. I then add a TBS of butter and two of corn/tapioca starch...heat it up whisking as you go. As soon as it begins to thicken pour it over the berries!

    My berries did not turn out well this way. I think next time I will make pie filling or jam/jelly. They ended up clumping in a large mass of smashed berries. Don’t know why.

    My blueberries and strawberries that I canned have leached the color into the water. I just assumed people normally do not can them because of that.

    Curious how good the quality would be after 5 yrs in the freezer? I know strawberries would definitely compromised, are blueberries an exception? Can't wait to see recipe. I'd murder some waffles served with blueberry syrup and lemon curd.

      All you need is a good Pressure canner..and ( As you saw) it can double as a boil bath canner..and a canning funnel kit comes with the jar tongs. all these can usually be bought at any walmart, lowe, Canadian Tire, Home Hardware and Amazon!
