I LIKE this!!! I turned all of mine into pie filling :( Your way, I could put the juice in a lemonade and the berries for muffins! I NEED to do this! Thanks Anna!
Great video! I’m going to try canning wild blueberries (bilberries) with different sugar levels in the syrup/brine, and also just water. Will be a fun experiment, as we prefer it natural if possible for many things. As I haven’t canned blueberries yet I can only guess what happened. But I think that was completely normal. The skin on a blueberry is so thin and when the berry boils it cracks. Try boiling a blueberry in a pot on the stove and see what happens. I think it would be very hard to can blueberries and keep them whole. Perhaps your located on high altitude, if so I stand corrected, but NCHFP states that if process time is 10min or more there is no need to pre-sterilize. So your 15 min should be well within. Unless your at >1000ft. ;) Thumbs up and you’ve got a new follower!
That's how they can up. Just like when I make pie filling. There are small pieces and larger pieces in the sauce. But it makes excellent crisps, topping on pancakes, on ice cream. I'm planning on making pie fillings this winter with all my fruits I grew this year. Plus jams. Going to can strawberry rhubarb pie filling. I also got 3 fat ziplock gallon bags and a fat quart zip bag of rhubarb in the freezer. And that was picked about 3 weeks ago and it is ready to pick again. So I think the leftover rhubarb I'll make juice and can that. Happy canning everyone!
Looks delicious! I'll bet your canning pantry is getting quite full these days. You and Robert should be in good shape for the zombie apocalypse lol. Love that green shirt you were wearing during the taste test! And I loved getting to hear your roosters crowing toward the beginning of the video.
I just watched another video on canning blackberries and their ratio was 1 cup sugar to 4 cups water. The blackberries retained their shape so I am wondering if using less sugar would keep the blueberries from dissolving in the syrup when canned.
You can watch a channel called … Flat Tire Farm. This lady is in Alaska. Very sweet and very knowledgeable too. She has a great video on canning blueberries without any sugar. They turned out great! 🌺
I just did the hot pack and I was shocked at the point where one is dissolving the sugar with heat and I lost half my berries. Soooo I then decided to make jam as I’ve already tried preserving peaches which turned into a whole lotta syrup with peach chunks 😂 So I figured jam it is then and added more sugar and took it to the gelling point. I was watching your video specifically for the results as I too want a recipe to preserve the whole berry. Do you have any updates on your search?
I’m new at prepping and I’ve been given a lot of bad advice and lost a lot of money on canning and I hope I learn well with you and am subscribing ❤by way how long are your blue berries stable for stored ? Thank you🇨🇦
Put you canned blueberries in the water. Bring to a boil. Remove the jars from the water. They will bing. Your 15-mins at a rolling boil actually cooked your blueberries.
Any liquid that is hot will ping the jars, I do it often with broth before putting it in the fridge. I’m game for select “rebel” canning methods but I wouldn’t personally be comfortable putting them on the shelf without the correct cooking time to kill off the nasties.
I believe you can use frozen blueberries but each fruit has a different ph level so you’ll want to find a recipe specific to each fruit you’re using when canning to know it’s safe.
@@FermentedHomestead you might be able to get a spicy blueberry and pineapple bread or something. Sounds wierd but I love sweet with spice. Also using honey and tumeric or middle east flavoring maybe?
You can use the blueberry water or juice for blueberry lemonade!

The versatility of this one is nice! If I want to make pie I can just add whatever I need after I open it! I bet your pie filling is amazing 😀

I love the way you think! The blueberry syrup to a ginger-bug sounds soooo gooood!

That sounds like a great experiment! It’s hard to know what you like until you try it all 😁 I’m happy to have you here!

That’s good to know! Not many people show that part of canning so it seems like it shouldn’t be. Thank you! 💜 those all sound delicious

We do have a bit of variety but certainly nothing like the canning queens on UA-cam! We might make it through a few zombies haha 😂
I think a light syrup would have prevented the berries attempt to be jam lol
I’m new to canning. I’m also new to your channel. I love your kitchen! ♥️
Welcome! You’re going to love canning! Thank you, I’m very blessed with my kitchen for sure! 💜

I agree with you. I can’t even imagine what 3 cups of sugar would do. I’m probably going to do the 1 cup sugar.
great on waffles and pancakes and use the syrup in your blueberry lemonade yumm!
Sounds great!
I’ve canned blackberries, but never blueberries! I always freeze my blueberries! Definitely going to try canning them!
Great to diversify the pantry!
WOW! That's a lot of sugar! I appreciate your video and you sharing your knowledge and experience, but I'll keep looking for a low/no sugar option.

Because sugar syrup and berries makes jam when heat is put to it
That video was a long bit ago so I’m not sure what the comment is referencing, time on the heat is also a factor in making the jam though
Would be a great cheesecake topping.
Yes it would!

I’m not too sure how long, we go through them fairly quickly. Canning can be a great way to put up healthier food at a more reasonable price
This would be glad to add to oatmeal or rice. I’m going for it. Thank you
It sure is 😃
Please tell me what brand of sanitizer machine do you use? I’m looking to buy one instead. Of boiling or oven as I’ve been told.
I’m not sure what you mean by a sanitizer machine?
@@FermentedHomestead when you were talking you said the back ground noise was your jar sanitizer

How about making quick refrigerator jam with them?
Oh goodness we have so much jam, I had a jam phase a couple of years ago but I didn’t stop to think that we don’t eat much jam! 🤣
@@FermentedHomestead lol 🤣🤣🤣 it would make great presents too
Can you do peaches the same as you did the blueberries.
Also using frozen fruits.

Hey! How did these hold up? I have a bunch of blueberries I need to can. Thx!

You referred to your syrup as a brine. I'm sure you didn't intend to say 6:50
Yep 😂 I can and ferment so sometimes I mix up the terminology
Blueberry are some of my favorite fruits same with pineapple lol
I was thinking of trying a pineapple blueberry dessert of some kind! You’re reading my mind 💜

Brine??? What’s in it please
At the beginning of the video, 4 cups of water, 3 cups of sugar
It appears it tried to turn into jam.
Haha it sure did try!
