    BW 606s in my Marantz amplifier particularly in source direct is too lean and bright to my ears. Replaced it with Focal Aria 926 and boy I'm satisfied with the sound. Warm, neutral, smooth and clean sound. With tight and punchy bass and enough top end extension to make the sound engaging and lively without being too bright and sibilant.

      @HIFIDaydreaming  Рік тому +1

      Absolutely agree, for B&W you need something dark to subdue it. Marantz is smooth and bright by nature, so cohesion will not work. While Focal Aria is airy and dynamic, and can far easier accommodate big range of amps.

    I bought Dali spektor 2 + Rotel A11 mkii combo...Amazing sound!. Do you think about 606 s3 is better Dali spektor 2?. Great video.

      @HIFIDaydreaming  10 місяців тому +2

      No matter how much I love Spektor 2, and think they are the best budget speakers. 606 s3 is just better, and more expansive speakers, they resolve more, have bigger soundstage, and deliver more rounded and mature sound. But they are 4-5x more expensive, and more difficult to pair with amps and room placement.

      @HIFIDaydreaming Buy a pair of 606 S3 speakers on offer and listen to them with the Roksan K3 integrated amplifier. I really like the sound of this system, because the advanced treble of 606S3 is very well balanced with the warmth of the K3. Good video!

    Great review as always! Is it possible that you will review Polk r200 and Oberon 3 in the future? Or make a video about popular speakers under 1k and compare them?

    • @HIFIDaydreaming
      @HIFIDaydreaming  Рік тому +1

      I had Oberon in the past, maybe sometimes I will do retrospective review. I was even thinking about that. Polk I did not spend enough time with it, nor I had it in past, and some other speakers have priority over them. So I highly doubt I will do Polk R200 in near future. I was thinking in January to do Best Phono Cartridges and Best Speakers under 1000. So probably that will come. Take a look at a new review coming today, it might be interesting amp for you.

    Hello! In your opinion what is best choice? Bw 606 s3, monitor audio silver 100 7g, wharfedale Evo 4.2 or Linton 85th anniversary? Thank you

      The price is different in all of this, so i can not say exactly who has the best value. But if you can afford every one of this speakers than it is between Linton and 606. 606 are more punchy and with a lot of energy and treble, but Linton is speaker that opens more is dynamicly rich on both end and has a bit more easy listening sound. More refinement in mids and bass. So it depends what you like. I would personally go with Linton.

    I owned the Polk legend L100's and i can say first hand that the 606 s3 are a world above the Polks. Not close. The polks lacked any low end and the highs were just nowhere near the detail level of the 606 s3. I tried multiple amps and subwoofers to help the Polks and gave up. Sold em and unfortunately the price of them took such a nose dive that getting $400 out of them was nearly impossible. Also i, as im sure many will agree, believe all bookshelf speakers benefit tremendously from integrating a subwoofer. It isnt just for bass output. It relieves the speakers from needing a super low end and crossing over a bookshelf at say 60-70hz, depending on model, makes such a difference. Take the Arendal 1961's. A very detailed and enthusiastic speaker with a ton of quality high points to its sound reproduction. Without a subwoofer, it is about 40% of the enjoyment of its full potential. With even an inexpensive subwoofer (say an entry level Rythmik) it becomes this listening experience that one would be cheating themselves out of if not for the sub. Any decent subwoofer should be able to incorporate itself with the speaker and become one. If you can hear your sub, you should adjust accordingly until its one cohesive unit. Just like components, they need to play nicely together and not accentuate each others weak spots but rather compliment.

      Hey Joe, really great post and comment, thank you for writing it here. I honestly have nothing to add here, it is a great thing to have sub, but I disagree a little bit that ig is a must especially for smaller rooms, or just for people who are not that much is weight and scope of sound and bass. But benefits od subs are countless and many. The only thing more I can say i have been dabbling in Arendal speakers for some time, I will do the review of bookshelfs in few months probably. Really great speakers.

    Hello, thanks for the wonderful review. I wanted to ask about what is the best amp with the B&W 607 s2. I was torn between the Audiolab 6000a and the Music Fidelity M3si, but I ended up buying the 6000a and using it with the Chord Mojo 2 as a DAC, and I really liked the soundstage, the imaging, and the separation of the instruments. Now I have owned Audiolab 6000a for about a year and I am considering the Music Fidelity M3si. What do you think? I am looking for a large soundstage with a warm, holographic and dynamic sound with excellent separation between instruments.

    • @HIFIDaydreaming
      @HIFIDaydreaming  8 місяців тому

      Hey man thanks for watching, it is appriciated. The thing is, with that change you will lose a bit of imaging and soundstage, but you will get more details and strength and weight to your music. I think best thing is to demo at a stores to see if you like sound like that. I think audiolab and bowers and wilkins work really good, fantastic synergy. But the sound of music fieldieity is different, not worser but differt. And maybe to what you expect will not fit those needs. But who knows maybe you would like the sound to have more definition, insight and weight. But don't expect big improverments in soundstage and imaging.

      @@HIFIDaydreaming Thank you for the response. I expect that I will continue using the Audiolab 6000a. My friend advised me to use the 6000a as a pre amp, and I tried using it with the Fosi Audio Za3, and the performance was really shocking. The bass became cohesive and controlled very nicely, and the separation between the instruments became better. The audio performance in general was Very beautiful to me
      But I feel that I need warmth and body in the sound, especially in the midrange
      I thought about adding a tube pre amp or a tube integrated amplifier to my 6000a. What do you think? Do you have any suggestions for me?

    • @HIFIDaydreaming
      @HIFIDaydreaming  8 місяців тому +1

      @@throyl2706 I think you are a bit complicating too much. :D If you know that you are listener that loves warmth and body, than focus on the integrated amp which is warm, and also speakers. Audiolab 6000a is too balanced, so it is in different spectrum from warmth and bigger weightier sound. Using Audiolab to get that sound, is in opposite direction from what you need. You can add some tubes, you can add some overtly warm speakers. But you are now piling gear, and spending more money. For something that could be fixed with speakers and integrated amp that have sound characteristics that you like. In HIFI it is not so much into what gear is bad or good, it is mor to find a gear that fit`s your needs. So in short yes, adding some tubes, and warm speakers can fix your problem, but it is more expensive, than just selling your gear and finding the one integrated plus speakers that fit you.

      @@throyl2706I had an audio lab 6000a with my B&W speakers and found it a poor match.
      The problem is B&W 606s are hi end speakers at an affordable price and need similarly good quality electronics to make them sound their best.
      I settled on a Fiio R7 streamer, musician Draco DAC with a ladder Bach pre amp and hypex class d monoblocs using supra cables.
      Smooth, rich and detailed sound.

      All this three speakers are different. Sonus is warmest, with the sound which is full and fun, and dynamics with best bass of all of them. Kef ls50 is super transparent and clean, with best soundstage of three. B&w is very detailed, foreword and punchy.

      I have seen great synergy between monitor audio and marantz. As marantz is warm and smooth, monitor audio gives it more weight and punch. Also from this video is polk is a great match. Also not in this video, q acoustics 5020/5040 is a great match.

      @@HIFIDaydreaming Out of these 3, since Marantz is leaning towards warm, can I assume that it's better pair with B&W to compensate for the bright and punchy sound?

    • @HIFIDaydreaming
      @HIFIDaydreaming  Рік тому +1

      Weightier the sound, better the fit with B&W. So Marantz is good, warm sound by default is a bit rounder and fuller. Cambridge Audio, Rega are not by default a good fit as they tend to spike the treble. To me "darker" weightier sounds of like Denon and Music Fidelity was a good pair. But warm amps like Marantz can also be a great synergy.

    Do B&W sound better? Will 606 be suitable for rock music and EDM?

    • @HIFIDaydreaming
      @HIFIDaydreaming  4 місяці тому +1

      It is much better than bronze. But regarding silver, i think treble and resolving power od bowers are better. But silver have a better bass, which makes the sound more grounded and a little bit less fatiguing. Even thou both are treble rich. I think both can really work well for edm and rock
      But edm should sound better on silver, while rock a bit better on bowers.

      The problem with some B&W speakers is that they are actually hi end products that you can afford.
      Accordingly most people end up matching them with mid fi electronics.
      Mid fi electronics tend to be harsh sounding because they use cheaper components and mid fi speakers tend not to be very revealing. B&W speakers are highly revealing, and when matched with high quality seperates with synergy they can take music to the next level.

      True. But there is more than good production, as how well mastered the recording are, how the instruments are being played, what production techniques are being used. Etc. I personally love when percussion is overly being used with different textures and materials to them. If the recorded it correctly it is a joy for me to listen.

    B&W speakers are not in High Fidelity league.... totaly unnatural sound and presentation... maybe good for HT - home theatre. From 6' bookshelves to 8's D floorstanding speakers IMHO.
    Why is with B&W speakers always debate about listening fatigue and matcihng and bla bla bla?? HI Fi is not about aggresive presentaion of details but in it is about natural sound presentation of instruments... and the basic are classical instuments.

People like treble amped, with all the details, textures and dynamic that comes with it. It is an acquired test thou, but we all pursue different sonic thrills, and that is what makes hifi such an awesome hobby with all it's flavours. 700 series is far more subdued in this regard.
