I was looking at an amp to buy that was great sounding, completely analog and looked like Hifi jewelry as well. I considered this one but I ended opting for the Yamaha a-s1200. I know it is more expensive but it gives me a greater owner’s pride feeling and has a better, more robust built. I’m am considering the marantz for a second room. Thanks for the video.
Thanks man. Yeah truly, both devices are awesome warm, bass heavy amps that can fit many synergies and rooms easily. And can bring lovely warm sound that makes all music more listenable far more easier.
Interesting review 👍. I got a great deal on an ex-demo 40n about 9 months ago. Hooked it up to my Lintons and Fluance RT85 TT and it is wonderful. Full bodied, warm and plenty detailed enough for me (music lover rather than an audiophile). Have been pleasantly surprised by the phono stage too. Will shortly add the CD60 then that’s me done! But I totally understand what you say about the Model 50.
Nice review, I just got a cracking deal on the model 50 £695 & the cd60 £350 both on ebay. Both purchased in late 2023 by the original owners. So far I love the model 50, only had it a day but the clarity of my vinyl records is amazing. The cd60 not got a massive opportunity too yet because we'll I don't have many cds, but decided to match it up with the amp. Two dislikes I have to say, the remote controls awful, the power button on the amps remote doesn't switch off or on the cd player, despite it clearly showing it CD on the remote! The input select on the cd remote doesn't flick through all the amp input selections. Both have way to many buttons. The solution, I've actually stuck with the remote for my marantz pm6004 which controls both amp and cd player, power, volume, input How mad is that, a 10plus year old remote controls both amp and cd player when the newer remotes do not. Also the front panels very difficult to see the controls, ie you cannot see them whatsoever in a lamp lip room.
That`s crazy that remote can not have synergy between cd player and amp (I know that it works well between cd50n and model 50). But I am glad you found your solution, and that you enjoy your new amp so much. Thanks for watching it is appreciated.
I think this are two diffrent beasts. Audiolab is a bit more "audiophile" device, as it is a bit richer and have better trasnpernacy and detail unraveling. But marantz is this grand big sound, with amazing bass and smoooooth mids. It is meant for more easy listening than clinical listening. So it all depends what you want from an amp. :)
I've had the Model 40n for ~ a year now and I think your review is SPOT ON! The only thing I disagree on is the quality of the internal DAC which I believe is on par with DACs/Streamers
At the end of the review there is a compression part with 3 amps. Similar in sound signature (Denon), more neutral (Musical Fidelity) and better, precise and more detailed treble (Rega). They are all in the same price range. I am also considering buying CXN100, but I am a bit on the fence should I wait for Bluesound Node Icon. But there is going to be a review of one of this two streamers sooner than latter. Thanks for watching my review, and I am really happy you enjoyed the review. Kudos for the L'Enfant Sauvage.
Great Review, I purchased this Marantz 8 months ago after doing much research. I wanted an Integrated Amplifier that was a Quality Product by a Trusted company that is Well Built with Quality Components Inside, that is All Analog with Good Power output! Its running my Vintage Tuner, Tape Deck and Technics SL3300 thru Project Tube Box S2 into line input and Technics SL 1200 GR into phono input = Great Phone Pre inside. If I want Digital streaming etc, I'll get the CD50N to match and spin my cd's. Peace
Thank you for a nice review. I have used Marantz PM 6006 since 2018. I use it with Dali Oberon 5 floorstanders. It is a great match. I have tried to combine the Dali Oberon 5 with other amplifiers as Smsl AO 200, Fosi ZA3 and Audiolab 6000A. Here in Europe the Audiolab is more expensive than the Marantz. But of all combinations the Marantz gives the best sound for me with the Dalis. Its rich, holografic and very satisfying. I think the Smsl was second best for me. The Fosi and Audiolab did not create the depth of the soundstage as the Marantz does. And it sounds a little to harsh. According to you, is the model 50 a big upgrade from the PM6006, which is an very good amplifier? The successor to it is the PM 6007, which is in the 600 euros class, even though you often can find it for about 440 euros new here in Europe. Thanks for your work and have a good day!
Yes Dalis ard wonderful with marantz. It is a big upgrade in sonics, but also in price. Everything you liked about 6006 will be better, plus a lot better treble and detail retrieval. But you have to taper your expectations a little bit. It is 1200 eur more expensive amp, and will that amp be a 1200 better will always be subjective and sometimes such a price rise can not meet expectations. But it is certainly a sonic improvement. Thank you for watching my review.

In that comparison Model 50 is better sonically, but Denon 1700 have a more better versatility, including DAC and have a great phono stage. But Marantz have that unbeatably musicality, smoothness and just amazing for nocturnal listening's. So yeah Model 50 or 30 if you have the money is way to go.
@@HIFIDaydreaming Model 50's phono is MM only, but it is the NF-CR type, which seems excellent sound quality and is smooth. I had 8006 before. moreover it seems to be better than PM8006. Regarding speakers, are B&W better suited for Model 50 than Dali? I think Dali is good for classical music. . . Am I wrong? I would like to hear your opinion.
@@kazususumna2651 Marantz goes better with both B&W and Dali it is a great match. But classical music have a huge dynamic range when you listen to it. It is hard to say which one is better for what, as you have really big lows with double contrabass, you have piercing highs with violin and high notes on piano. Classical music is really expanding on both part of scale. So it is important what matters to you, maybe if you prefer musicality, Dali would be better choice as it has a better bass, but also more musical and expressive mids. That would be my choice, but if somebody really loves pronounced and detail sound, maybe Bowers would be more for him as he would enjoy more music like that.
Well, different strokes for different folks. I would never switch my 40n with 50. In Model 40n I've got everything I need in one box, with warmer, punchier and more full-bodied sound that I love, compared to Model 50 . The implementation of the DAC and the headphone amp is so great that I hardly use my separate DAC or headphone amp. And I strongly disagree that a more expensive DAC or streamer will drastically improve the sound of Model 40n. If one likes the sound, timbre and tonality of Model 40n, to them a leaner sounding DAC, no matter the price, might even be considered a downgrade. Lastly, I was looking for a silent amp, and 40n with SN Ratio of 86dB (measured by "Audio" magazine) is much better in this regard than Model 50 with SN Ratio of 79dB.
Listen I agree with you to extent, and thank you for sharing your insight and expiriance. This reviews are highly subjective, so therefore it could drastically differ from yours. But hopefully I managed to express my opinon clearly enough, and made this review interesting and informative enough. I used model 50 with 3 diffrent dacs, and 3 duffrent streamers and did vs. With model 40n. And form that cross refrecing i derived my conclusions. Thank you for watching my review it is appreciated.
The point of having HDMI arc is to turn on/off the device by using TV remote and controle volume over the same remote. How does model50 + cd 50n succeeds in that regard? I understand that we can control cd 50n via TV remote but there is no trigger on model 50 so it needs to remain tuned on all the time or user should turn it on/off every time he/she wants to watch movie or listen to some music. That beats the point of having hdmi arc. If there is some other way to control both devices with TV remote please share with me.
See Hans Beekhuizen's review of the Model 50/CD50n pairing - he confirmed the HDMI works, and the TV remote will indeed control the volume on the Model 50. This was his answer to me: 'It doesn't need to be in pre-amp mode, It does it too when in cd-player/streamer mode. The amp than does the volume control by using the tV remote .' But even if it doesn't auto switch on/off is that really a big deal?? This is after all not a home-theatre solution.
Honestly i dont know, i never used my devices like that. I use it to conncet my pc, sony playstion 5, blu rey player etc. Just to get that fantastic bandwidth and flexibility of hdmi arc. I have a single remote to control model 50 and cd 50 i never had need to control and tv with that. I connect all those devices and with marantzs remote i adjust the volume. I know this was not of much help, but hopefully someone will help you.
Personally I think Marantz take some beating. They have models at the starter end of the market which are well built and sound good. These at the middle ground which look very interesting and if you have the means high end which i know will sound fantastic
That seems rational, but i have not managed to get to listen to it yet, so i can not comment on sound quality comparisons. Have you had a chance to do so, to listen to them?
@@HIFIDaydreaming No I have not It gets great reviews from owners and reviewers I was just looking at my own path Every thing I have ever got involved with ends up in serious mission creep I am at the point where I vacillate between wanting another SE tube amplifier or DAC or speakers for a new speaker build or whatever and just getting an M1 and some Pearl Acoustics Sebelius speakers and a couple REL Classic 98/99 subwoofers and selling/donating everything and just calling it a day. It would simplify my life if nothing else.
Well they are for two different listeners. Arcams, are more neutral with hints of masculinity. Marantz have this cream, warm and smooth sound, with far stronger lower end. Both models of Arcam have more power, with Arcam A25 going with 100 in 8 ohms. Also Arcams come with DAC, while Marantz does not have. Certainly there is more clarity and details with Arcam, while Marantz have this great musicality around it for easy and great listening sessions. They are both great it just depends what kind of listener you are and what you listen.
After your reply will be getting Marantz. Warm and smooth sound - that's what I want. :-)) But now I found Model 50 and PM7000N. The latter also has a DAC. But soundwise will Model 50 be significantly better? Or both will appropriately the same? Thank you in advance! :-)
@@dimabesk Get Model 50, and than down the road get some fine DAC. Or just use any source like cd player, music streamer etc. that have DAC inside. That is my recommendation.
No meaning of featurs if it does not sound good, recently I wanted to buy i.e. Marantz stereo 70s but side by side marantz 8006 was available, and as soon as I turn the volume of 8006,it's blown my mind and I can't listen stereo 70s.
Hi Tim and thanks for watching my reviews! You have to look at Model 30 which is perfect for those speakers, as I think Model 50 will not do a great job fully driving them. You need around 100W in 8 ohms in order to truly drive your speakers and model 30 would, I personally think do a fantastic job... It is an wonderful amp, with a lot of power form 100W to 200W, that means that it fantastically handles lower output speakers. I only listened to it in demo room, so there is not much I can say, except it sounds a bit more better in every department to Model 50; and I could not have afford them so I want to choose between this and Model 40n. So probably there will not be a review of this amp in near future. I would really like to review it, so who knows maybe somehow I acquire it, but there is no plan in near future to review it.
@ Thank you for your response, appreciated, I guess I will give it a go to order the model 30, keep up the good work of your reviews, I believe you are doing a great job here.
Try somwhere 703s3 with 40n and hear is it for you. For me its fantastic combo. Model 30 have more power but its class D amp and its less warm than 40n. On other side 40n have enough power for 703S3 so dont wory about that. Model 30 maybe can be too much for 703S3 and you will get harsh sound on tweeter. You need worm amp for B&W. Didnt hear in person m30 with 703s3 but its my suspicious because model 30 is more analytical and cold.
@@duleendlesssport6513 I went for a listen, and I loved model 30, tighter and more controller over the 40n, which I found a bit dull, but as model 30 was not in stock, we need to wait for it for a listen at home..

You know what they say Vietnam is a new Japan... I am just kidding, it is maybe same like how Canon and Nikon are for some model outsourcing development in other countries. I honestly don't feel any lacking in quality levels on Model 50 to be honest.
Oh my god, ever since i uplouded the review I have been thanking about that. How this coud have been more complete and future proof amp if it had a balanced input. It is such a missed opportunity. And something that they should have.
@rob it's not your grandmothers class D . my wife is a hard core AB fan and mocked me for getting the Class D model 30 , but then i turned it on for her and she turned and looked at me with big eyes and said "Damn ! "
Unfortunately when I was buying the Marantzes it has not been unannounced yet. They announced it when i was done waiting this review. But seems as a promising device.
@mw12387 while it can certainly drive them good enough. 703 are really hungry speakers, and I am inclined to more recommended model 30, for b&w to show all its power, soundstage, and bass.
I have auditioned both Model 50 and 40n, using Tidal, Dali Epicon speakers were used. I thought, thos two units should sound almost identical, but in the end, I found 40n being simply better. While Model 50 provided a bit wider sound stage, the instrument separation was a bit confusing, I was disturbed by detail here or there. I found 40n more focused and overally enjoying it much more. I have Cinema 50, so analog model 50 would be a natural match, but - model 40n is not much more expensive here, so I would choose 40n, even if I have streamer with Cinema 50 already. The difference is in DAC - 40n uses Sabre, while Cinema 50 just TI DAC.
Dali epicon ♥️! I said in review that sound difference is neglable. But as I said, this is a subjective review, and I presented my points to why i choose 50 over 40n. But the best, judge of sound, is always gonna be your own ears in a demo room. So def if you found 40n more enjoyably than that should be your next amp.
The amp than does the volume control by using the tV remote .'
But even if it doesn't auto switch on/off is that really a big deal?? This is after all not a home-theatre solution.
Honestly i dont know, i never used my devices like that. I use it to conncet my pc, sony playstion 5, blu rey player etc. Just to get that fantastic bandwidth and flexibility of hdmi arc. I have a single remote to control model 50 and cd 50 i never had need to control and tv with that. I connect all those devices and with marantzs remote i adjust the volume. I know this was not of much help, but hopefully someone will help you.
Great review!
Personally I think Marantz take some beating. They have models at the starter end of the market which are well built and sound good. These at the middle ground which look very interesting and if you have the means high end which i know will sound fantastic
Yes exactly, they cover vast range of market. Something for everyone, and it is a sound that can fit a lot of people's needs.
I would have picked the Model 50 as well
If I were starting over I would just get the Marantz M1 at $1k and some nice speakers and be done with it
That seems rational, but i have not managed to get to listen to it yet, so i can not comment on sound quality comparisons. Have you had a chance to do so, to listen to them?
@@HIFIDaydreaming No I have not
It gets great reviews from owners and reviewers
I was just looking at my own path
Every thing I have ever got involved with ends up in serious mission creep
I am at the point where I vacillate between wanting another SE tube amplifier or DAC or speakers for a new speaker build or whatever and just getting an M1 and some Pearl Acoustics Sebelius speakers and a couple REL Classic 98/99 subwoofers and selling/donating everything and just calling it a day.
It would simplify my life if nothing else.
Thank you for the review! How do you compare Marantz 50 to Arcam A15 or A25?
Well they are for two different listeners. Arcams, are more neutral with hints of masculinity. Marantz have this cream, warm and smooth sound, with far stronger lower end. Both models of Arcam have more power, with Arcam A25 going with 100 in 8 ohms. Also Arcams come with DAC, while Marantz does not have. Certainly there is more clarity and details with Arcam, while Marantz have this great musicality around it for easy and great listening sessions. They are both great it just depends what kind of listener you are and what you listen.
@HIFIDaydreaming Thank you for the reply! Very useful. :-)
Try this, you will not be dissapointed my friend. Or marantz model 40n if you want streaming and dac in one box.
I own b&w 703s3 speakers, looking to buy the marantz model 30, how is this match?, are you also reviewing model 30 later on?
@@duleendlesssport6513 Model 30 arrived yesterday, what a great amp in combination with 703s3's, effortless power, warm / rich and still detailed, love it, far less listening fatigue compared to my old amp, warmly recommended.
I've just stumbled across this channel by accident looking for genuine hifi reviews. I've watched some of the videos about you ranting on about how good equipment sounds but then it finally dawned on me, where are the hifi equipment. Nothing shown in your room with you. Maybe if I join your patron I might see them. Ahh sorry just realised after seeing you UA-cam name daydream....
Hey friend, i am sorry I dont fit your needs as a reviewer. Hopefully you will find someone else that will satisfy your needs as a watcher of this reviews. As for accusations, I always mention what gear i used for cross examening. And regarding pictures that all depneds from my free time, work, and just people in my house. I will try to deliver as much of visuals as ppssible, but sometimes its just not ppssible. Thank you for watching my reviews thou.
looks beautiful
Really elegant and modren amp.
You should review the small "Pro-Ject MaiA DS3" class A/B amplifier if you have the opportunity. :)
I would definitely love that. Who knows maybe in future...
I can combine the 50 and the 60 CD player, I don't care about streaming.
Well i can not speak directly on quality. But cd50n have more connections, plus hdmi, and have a better dac inside. But it is a much more extensive device. So if it is just to listen to cds it might be a better value option.
If you review the kEF Q Concerto meta, let us know how this pairing sounds. If you review the Cambridge Audio EXA100, let us know how it compares to the Model 50 or better how it pairs with the Concerto Meta. Have a lovely day
Probably will not happen in 2024, I will look to buy Those new Q meta models at beginning of 2025 if my finances allow me that. I would really love to hear and review them, including New EXA models from Cambridge Audio. Thanks for contributing and being part of this channel.
what about the 50 vs the 30?
Hi, I already told someone here that I don't have enough expiriance with 30 to make a real comparison. I wish i did honestly, but someday.
@@HIFIDaydreaming fair! thanks
@@siriosstar4789 Not exactly, I have both.
super ce modèle 50 , il sonne vraiment bien ; qu'en sera t-il de sa fiabilité ? Pourquoi a t-il été fabriqué au Vietnam ?????
You know what they say Vietnam is a new Japan... I am just kidding, it is maybe same like how Canon and Nikon are for some model outsourcing development in other countries. I honestly don't feel any lacking in quality levels on Model 50 to be honest.
The build in DAC degradate sound sound quality of the amplifier. The build in DAC must be turned off all the time.for better sound.
Yeah never dying debate separates or integrated... but yes in 95% separates are going to be better for plethora of reasons.
No balanced input though. Balanced inputs show up at the $8k mark for denon and marantz.
Oh my god, ever since i uplouded the review I have been thanking about that. How this coud have been more complete and future proof amp if it had a balanced input. It is such a missed opportunity. And something that they should have.
Ufffff!!!!! Que paliza!
What about the model 30 (Class D)?
Unfortunately I don't have that much expiriance with model 30, for any detailed compression.
@rob it's not your grandmothers class D .
my wife is a hard core AB fan and mocked me for getting the Class D model 30 , but then i turned it on for her and she turned and looked at me with big eyes and said
"Damn ! "
The 60n looks good also
Unfortunately when I was buying the Marantzes it has not been unannounced yet. They announced it when i was done waiting this review. But seems as a promising device.
Hello, hass model 50 enough power for floorstanders bowers 703 s2?
Ty
Thank you for sharing your expiriance and insight, and for watching this review.
why not the 30?
@@JohnSmith-zl8rz A different price level, whereas the price difference of the 40n vs 50 is some 250$ here.
Acchiappapolli da spennare 😂😂😂😂
With no digital inputs no way... just obsolet... I would get a cheaper 60N or 40N.
Those are also great choices!
