New guy here, and also a newbee bee keeper. I like what im seeing and subbed up for more.
I just went into my first colony yesterday for the first time since it showed up voluntarily last spring. The bottom deep was packed! And i was able to extort one full frame of nothing but capped honey. The middle deep had about 4 frames that were at 50% filled with comb that was about 25% filled with nectar. I added a medium super with queen excluder to middle and put the partial deep on top with they're own entrance. Did a mite test with sticky board and only found 2 after 48 hours. Its a very strong hive and has swarmed at least one time for sure because i witnessed that swarm fly away. That was a sad experience lol.
But i think it swarmed two more times because i captured two swarms from a peach tree about 15 yards from the box. So now i have 3 hives and all going strong.
On that note, i would advise all new bee keepers to be ready and prepared to deal with swarms beforehand because if your hive is doing well it will swarm. There are multiple ways to handle the situation and it would be prudent to be ready to split or remove queen cells when the time comes. Also be ready and prepared to capture a swarm.
Ive also discovered that i am not allergic to honey bee's like i am to yellow jackets, wich is a Very good thing and I've discovered that honey bee venom therapy really does work for treating arthritis. Its been a huge blessing.

Hey, thanks for the sub! Nice work on capturing those swarms and congrats on the honey. I’ve got some extra equipment in case mine swarms, but hopefully I can catch it before it happens and split the hive instead.
Also that’s great about discovering a treatment for your arthritis, I hope you continue to have great luck and success.

Shorewood wouldn't be Illinois by any chance? I'm a keeper near there so it would be great to share
