I was at the Tijuca Tênis Clube in 2004 when Jacaré fought against Roger. I will never forget the atmosphere and the energy during the fight.

Jacare left BJJ many many years ago to do MMA. Roger stayed pretty much until 2010 winning a lot of titles. I wish Jacare would come back to BJJ once in a while

I hope so. He is now ranked 3rd in MW division and should get title shot against Belfort or Weidman if he wins Carmont.

I grappled with him in 06' he is like a giant spider... There is just no way out. The same day I watched him spar against Vladimir Matyushenko. I should have paid to be in that room. The perfect contrast of Wrestling vs. Jiu-Jitsu. Unbelievable it was like they cancelled each other out.

I honestly believe that aside from Anderson Silva & Vitor Belfort (As well as Gegard Mousasi & Rashad Evans if they move down). Jacare is also an honest threat to Chris Weidman's reign.

the reason why Jacare was poor even as the best black belt in the world is simple - stupid bjj rules... it is boring as hell and nobody wants to watch it. You have to do jj to watch it, world championships - 50% of seats empty... more people watch Synchronised Swimming as it is more exciting. It would be so easy to change. Here we go:
1. Pulling guard costs you -10 points
2. Throw is worth +10 points
3. No action for 15 seconds - -1 point

It is especially ridicules in no-gi fights - they just f**** walk around for 10 minutes doing nothing

and 2 weeks before that match while estima was training for the match of his life Jacare was in a 5 round war with rockhold for the strikeforce title. The match with estima sucked. was really bad and disapointing but i still wanna see him fight. Also he beat Drysdale in 2009 - looked good there

Jacare did not continue to "fight" after Roger broke his arm. He avoided Roger by running out of the ring many times, which should have resulted in a disqualification. Very clear in IBJJF rulebook regarding "deliberately" leaving the ring or stalling by not engaging or passing guard. Jacare won through bad officiating. The evidence is preserved in video on youtube for the whole bjj world to see. Hardly a win worth promoting or feeling honored about.
