BRASSICAS ARE A FLOP & a Few Other Hiccups in Gardening Adventures

- We did all the things! Fertilized, watered, protected and nothing helped our brassicas to bear fruit! And that’s a huge loss to our winter food preservation.
A few other questionable things happening in the garden that we would appreciate any advice or input you care to share with us!
And of course there is still lots of positive, good things producing and growing 👩🌾
You have a beautiful garden and I think more wins than losses 🙂
Thank you so much 💜 and yes so much more to be grateful for 🙏
Such pretty flowers Thur out your garden! Thank you 👧🏻
Thanks Lyn 💜
That pretty blue top you are wearing is your color! 💙 Beautiful! Your garden is amazing! I'm so sorry about the beetles. I hope you will be able to get rid of them once and for all before they do too much damage. Super hot here too with high humidity. We got a couple of five minute showers over the last coupe of days. Not enough, but thankful for it just the same. No real chances for rain here for at least another week. July is a tough month down here. Sometimes we get some thundershowers in the late afternoons and we sure could use them right now. Trying not to complain and remain thankful for everything though! The Lord is so very good to all of us! I hope the rest of your week goes well. Blessings! 💙💙💙💙💙
Thank you so much Carolyn! I don’t wear brighter colours very often I guess, I’m always subdued and plain 😉 The last 36 hours have been raining hard which I’m very grateful for..it’s been so long! I just checked this morning and the rain didn’t seem to deter the beetles much. I’ll start getting at them again when the rain passes. You take care 💜
I'm so sorry you are having struggles too, mine this year is zucchini and I've never had issues with that in all my years of growing.I just want fried zucchini and Colleen's mom's chocolate cake 😂 OH sweet Uno.... our dog follows me in the garden begging for snap peas, the girl is obsessed with them, she picked one herself today 😂😂😂
LOL! At least your dog eats healthy 😉 Too bad about your zucchini ☹️ So far we have been lucky with ours 🤞 Your growing season is similar to mine and I think you still have time to plant one last round if you do it soon. Take care 💜
Your garden is beautiful despite the brassica problem, we have had so much rain and have seen not one cabbage 🥬 moth, so we’re having a great broccoli harvest do far. 11 meals in the freezer so far! We now have the heat and humidity which will make the tomatoes and peppers 🌶️ happy! Wish you lived closer I’d give you broccoli!
That’s fantastic Jane! It’s a great start when you can preserve the earlier crops 😀 You’re so sweet…I’d let you give me one broccoli 😂
That’s all we have had, heat and humidity for weeks!!!! Ugh 🥵

Just picked three more broccoli heads! The bugs are so bad this year, I bought a net thing for my head!
@janeschultz9951 Wow! How many did you plant? Those nets come in handy. I have a hat with a roll down net if needed, so far this year I haven’t 🙏

Not sure…about 15 I think.
So sorry about yout broccoli and cauliflower. So much work, it is disappointing. One suggestion I used to do is when the brocoli or cauliflower go on sale at your local grocery this summer, I always ask the staff in veg area for a case of it. I took the case home and processed it down for winter. At least then it's Cdn produce at our summer prices instead of paying those crazy winter prices for imported food.
Thank you Jean that’s a great idea! I’ve never had to think of an alternative solution and this would be perfect 💜
Hi new friend here from Australia, your garden's lovely and I really need to get stuck into mine. We are in the last few days of winter here. 🌈🌦🌸
Hello! Thank you 💜 You must be looking forward to gardening after winter…soon I will have the long winter (ugh!)
I feel your pain! I've had a total fail on beets due to our odd weather so far. We've also been dealing with a lot more pest pressure than usual in the PNW. Trying to not let it ruin the magic, but it's definitely overwhelming! Also trying cocozelle zucchini for the first time this year and I'm soo excited! The garden is looking great!
Sorry you’re having pest problems too! This has been the worst I’ve ever had and so early. You’ll love the cocozelle, it’s delicious! Thanks 💜
This year has been a strange gardening year that's for sure. I have been having issues too. Please do an update video on your Olpaka tomatoes when they are ready. Curious to know what happens.
I will definitely update on the opalka tomatoes! I’m just as curious (and anxious 😬) to see what happens. Thanks 💜
So sorry about your brassicas such a lot of work you've done. Mine are ok at the moment but it's been so wet in the UK so far who knows what's going to happen 🙏
We will try for a fall harvest and hope for better luck 🤞I hope yours continue to do well, Thanks Julie 💜
It looks like vine borer to me...but this heat is really taking its toll on everything... Also drought here in Ohio valley...I've been watering like crazy!
That’s what I’m dreading Debra is the vine borer 😩 If it is I hope he’s happy to stay just to that plant! Thanks 💜
Is it not the weather that the Brasiccas and the cauliflower is not doing well? My went immediatly went in to flower. The weather in the Netherlands is verry different this year.
I’m glad we Don’t have squash Beatles. We only have the Colorado Beatle.
I don’t know what was happening with the brassicas??! The Purple of Sicily cauliflower never even formed a head 🤷🏻♀️
I have never heard of the Colorado beetle and I’m pretty sure I don’t want to know or see it 😉Thanks Conny 💜
I think it’s the heat
Belinda, you think the heat is the problem for the squashes? Or the brassicas too?
