- Selena Quintanilla’s sister, Suzette Quintanilla, opens up exclusively to ET’s Deidre Behar about what’s to come in part 2 of ‘Selena: The Series,’ premiering May 14 on Netflix. Suzette says part 2 will include moments like Selena’s elopement with husband Chris Perez. She also confirms viewers will see conflict within Selena’s family, relationship with Chris and her blossoming career. Suzette also reflects on her sister’s death in 1995 and adds there are moments in the series that are difficult for her to relive. The former drummer also reacts to the success of ‘Selena: The Series’ part 1, which was met with both celebration and criticism. Suzette weighs in on the critiques over Christian Serratos’ portrayal of her sister, praising the actress for her performance and reminding fans that there’s only one Selena Quintanilla, who can never be entirely duplicated. Suzette opened up to ET ahead of her sister winning the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 63rd annual GRAMMY Awards.

As a Selena fan I’ve much rather of seen more of Selena and Chris then her father’s story
It’s best to read Chris’ book “To Selena With Love”. This show is the family’s version and Chris’ version is in his book. I’m not even that excited about Season 2 cuz we know what happens. Also, I’m still not happy with how her family treated Chris since her passing. I’m riding with Chris all the way.

It’s so sad that they can tell Selena & Chris’s love story, but Chris can’t. I always said that Selena’s father had a unnatural obsession with his daughter. The Bible & the courts say husband first. Everyone is allowed to tell their own story, their own truth. But for some reason it didn’t apply to Ab. That part of Selena’s story is just so sad. The way he was treated after she passed. I can’t imagine what he felt like. That you just didn’t matter!!! SAD!!

I absolutely hated the fact that we all knew the ending and that not even the series could change history
Just to think on April 16th this year Selena would have been 50 years old. Thank you Grammy 2021 for giving this woman her credits. Selena was the first Mexican singer I was totally invested into, her music touched me.
It's really sad that Selena will have her story continuously told through someone else's eyes. A lot of truth was still left out and basically the Quintanillas want make sure that their image stays up and Chris telling his side of things would've tainted that for them.
I try to imagine how Selena would react to all of this.
There are reasons that the Selena movie hit the mark - and the biggest reason is that the cast members actually spent a lot of time with Selena's family and had access to footage never seen by the public. Jennifer Lopez actually stayed with the Quintanillas for a little while so she could really learn all she could about Selena's life and personality and study her characteristics and dance moves to make the performance as true to life as possible. Also, Jon Seda and Chris Perez became very good friends, and Jon would check with Chris to see that he was portraying the situation in the story in a true way. They are still good friends! In an interview, Suzette admitted that in this series the cast members did not meet or spend time with the family before shooting the series. I think that had a big impact on performance. The series is not as successful as they're making it seem. I was very excited to watch the series, but honestly it did not have me glued to the screen and the acting was not that great. I felt like I was watching a series about a different family and not about Selena's life. Add to the fact, the Quintanillas deliberately left Chris Perez out of the project and have been trashing him on social media - when all he's ever done is show respect to that family. He had no idea the series was even being made. I have little to no interest in watching the second part of the series.
@@remy9021 actually, many movies and series based on real people are unauthorized stories and so they don't get the benefit of true portrayal and get almost everything wrong. I don't know how many movies now that I've seen on LMN that have been so inaccurate. Just because the internet exists, doesn't mean that you can do enough research online to be prepared to portray someone's life. And actors didn't HAVE to meet real people to do their research. A lot of them didn't have that option because the person they're portraying died many years ago and there likely is no one to ask. Jennifer Lopez didn't have to stay with Selena's family to prepare for her part, she was FORTUNATE enough to do that, and I believe the family wanted the most realistic portrayal of Selena and that is why they wanted to do it that way. What I'm saying is they did not put the same kind of effort into the show that they did the movie as far as getting a realistic picture of Selena's life.
@@remy9021 to say that EVERYONE who knew Selena has said the series is better than the movie is a pretty broad statement, and I don't really believe that to be true. Bringing more recognition to Selena's legacy is a good thing - but it doesn't mean that everyone loves the series simply because they loved Selena. I am a huge Selena fan and was really excited about watching the series, and was disappointed. It just fell really flat for me. And I don't really consider it to be a story about Selena, but more about the family. And I think it's a shame that they left Chris Perez completely out of the project and at least give the courtesy to let him know they were doing it. That's my opinion.
@@remy9021 Well, it is a broad statement unless you actually know every single one of those people and had access to all of their opinions. As for Chris's book, I read it years ago and I don't particularly remember things in his book painting her family in a negative light, other than describing some of the things that Selena felt about certain situations. Chris has always been positive and respectful when talking publicly about Selena's family. I might check out the interview you mentioned - but I'm not really wanting to go down that rabbit hole either. lol. There's so much to the story and I guess it just comes down to whoever people thing is being the most genuine.

Exactly... she lacked sense of humor, personality and charisma. Selena was FULL of that. It seemed like Christian was more so quiet/laid back and just tried to smile through it all but Selena was way more than just a smile. When it comes to Selena we just have very high expectations.
Plus her dancing was wayyyyy to sporadic and crazy. Could have at least taken some dance classes for the role.

I could get past the fact that she doesn't look like Selena. What bothered me is you could tell Jennifer put in the work to speak like her, act like her and perform just like her. Christian did PHENOMENAL as Selena. She really captured Selena's goofy personality. The only negative thing I really even have to say is the lip syncing could've been better but that's really it.

Well that’s how it was in real life. When you’re a minor you don’t have your own life until you’re an adult. Abraham made a family band/business. So they had to set the groundwork on how Selena’s beginnings started. It was her fathers dreams for his daughter to be a singer. We won’t see Selena living her own life making her own decisions until part 2. When she starts rebelling against her father. Dating a guy he disproved of and starting a fashion business that he thought was just a distraction from her music career...

They've included Chris only because they can't tell the story of Selena without him. But they really don't like him. Notice in the movie with JLo they said Selena bought the red porche but really it was chris’ . Selena had a black one and she loved his red one more so he gave it to her. I'm curious if they'll lie in this series as well

Well she never said “Thanks To The Fans” cause in fact the series was a success because of the fans not because a story of Mexicans-Americans. She said she is proud where they come from... but the cast all are Latinos but white skin... she knows that they don’t look too white back in the 90s they are all brown skin but at the same time seems like they’re ashamed to show what the reality is. Overall it sucked.... you can tell they weren't really into it and they let other people do their thing it's sad. I feel like if Chris would have did it it would have came out a lot better more accurate better actors just more thought you know what I mean.

I think Chris Perez should have did a Selena show in his book (to Selena with love ) it says suzette told Abraham that Selena and Chris had a secret relationship they just dint want to make suzette look like a snitch btw I think Chris would do it better
He did try. Way before this series was even planned. Selena’s father sued him and stopped him. Netflix originally approached him.
Chris needs to bring his book to live....now everybody would love that
