- ostlink.com/extras - Find out if acting/modeling/or being a movie extra is right for you.
Most aspiring actors think the acting industry is very competitive and hard to break into, while it's true that this is a competitive industry there are certain tricks to the trade.
One opportunity that a lot of actors neglect is the ability to be a movie extra. It's a great way to build up your portfolio, gain experience, and also learn more about the industry, and the great thing is that some movie extra jobs are paid, and it doesn't require a whole lot of experience to do.
If acting is your dream then you should be attending open casting calls and auditions, but you should also not neglect movie extra jobs. It's a really great experience and it will only benefit you in the long run.
One Source Talent has 13 locations nationwide including Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Providence, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington D.C.

IT REQUIRES being on time, NEVER EVER being late.....give yourself over 2 hours in la if you have over 50 miles to drive each way (traffic sucks) and never use your camera to take anyone's photo....that will get you fired. and never ever ever speak to an actor unless THEY DO IT FIRST........i've been in over 265 productions..central is best to be with..on Flower in Burbank plus Jeff Olan Casting in Sherman Oaks
I was an extra in captain america:2 The winter solider
Being an extra on movie/tv sets is so fun. Your within feet of some of your favorite actors, the people you work with are very cool and you get a close look at how things are put together. Oh and THEY FEED YOU! Good food by the way. If you don't live in NYC or L.A. finding work as an extra may be slow going. If your in the San Diego area give Stu Segall Productions a call and their staff will take care of you. If at all possible ask for a Taft-Hartley before accepting an assignment. Once you have 3 of them you can qualify for union wages. The Screen Actors Guild (SAG for short) is a great union. Joining them should be a priority if you plan on making it in T.V./Film. I worked as a extra before and had so much fun wouldn't hesitate to do it again.
Hey, thanks for the Stu Segall Productions lead! May check it out!!
I worked on movies for many years. It's not that hard to be an extra. But being an extra can really SUCK. Keep in mind the weather, being hungry, and sitting around for hours upon hours doing nothing.
That is unless the production also includes food for their extras. Some don't! Some do. Which are one of many other things people should look into and ask about before jumping the gun to run off to be an extra even. As they should not all expect to get paid all the time either. Sometimes, some productions only offer credit for their time as an extra.

I would love to be an extra, to start out, even if they don't provide food.
I have a sort of unique skill. I can speak jive.
Well ya never know what they will ask for as far as what they need/want for any particular extra. Sometimes they'll ask someone who IS an extra, to have a minute small part to speak in a line they need (i.e. taking an order at a table for the main characters or others in that certain main scene part), or just random lines said in shirt/spoken/or even an action with an impact in expression etc. Then that kind of thing will be noticed by another producer or what not, and they'll see something and say, "What about this guy/girl? Who are they, where are they? We want them" Not always. But depending on the impact of that very small part you might be given as an extra, could help in gaining notice for a larger part later on in another film! :)
The point is you got paid
Ray Charles Extras are not allowed to speak. So you won't be speaking on any jive. ;)
I was an extra on the HBO show Entourage. I got paid $89.00 for 12 hours worth of work. Not a whole lot of money but I got to hang out in Hollywood and with the actor of the show. Ari, the Asian guy Loyd, Babs and a bunch of the other cast members. I learned a lot and the kicker was I didn't need the money. One Source Talent got me the gig and the nice thing is that I still have the check as a souvenir.
Where you in a movie for a extra ? If so what movie
This is something im very interested in. As soon as I buy a car so I can drive to a film shoot im signing up.
Having Extra work as an Actor does NOT look good on your resume. That being said, pursuing extra work is not a bad thing by no means, but do not put any extra work on your resume if you are looking to reach for the stars.
Exactly. You nailed it. I think those that are green and new to this believe that being an Extra is their ticket to stardom. It's a thankless and worthless job, even though it's needed. Movies need people walking around in the background so that it looks realistic. That's all you are. Part of the crowd walking around in the background. I agree with Juston. Keep it off your resume! The entertainment industry doesn't take extras seriously.
what does it pay?

What about if your under 16?
Wouldja still be able to do /something/?
No problem, glad you like the info, Desmond!
We've got a similar situation here in Michigan which is why a lot of movie makers are choosing to film here as well :)
When I was a kid I want to be a doctor, artist, movie director, etc....and one of the career that I want when I was younger is to be an actor. I used to want to be in movies and t.v. shows when I was a kid. Later on I grew out of it. Now I'm in college and I'm thinking on going back to have a career in acting. I hope someday that I will be in an extra in movies with positive more values. Than later on to have cameos and afterwards to have bigger roles. That was my plan when I was a child to build up in acting job.I like entertainment business..I might be a actor, movie director and a artist to work on special effects. I might do it all.
i need to get an acting career and fast
Being an extra is soo much fun and i totally recommend it!
I always wanted to be an extra, but I don't live in an area that films happen.
I ALWAYS THINK ABOUT GOING TO AUDITIONS, BUT I NEVER GO. NOW WITH THIS EBOLA ISH, I AM JUST PLAIN SCARED.
I'm one now and yes you can be an overnight success it just varies with people . try making Friend other extras. Facebook is the best.
Please open a location in Philadelphia Pennsylvania.... New York is too far away for us who don't drive or wanna travel far from our homes
right
I hear ya. I'm in Delaware and they used to have casting calls here to do extra work, but it was all in New York, so I never joined. I always wanted to though.
Yes that sucks i hear you back, that is way to far and stressful to get to.... people like us are not rich and want the jobs to get up higher in life. We cannot afford to travel far and pay to stay in those expensive hotels for a maybe, we need close spots to get to easily and Philadelphia and Delaware are too big spots it is weird that they have none here
interested in being an EXTRA
I filled out that information minus the pictures... I'm regretting it already. Guys thats not a test or something once you fill out that stuff thats almost like a resume and YOU WILL be contacted if they like you.
Very emotional
I did a couple of elementary school plays so I should be a shoe in for the upcoming filmings happening here in Las Vegas, where they are giving tax credits for movie makers that choose Nevada to film here. thanks for the info, bud.
my brother jonathan cooper and braden swope are in the Terrible Horrible Very Bad Day with steve carrel and jennifer garner...im so proud of him
You shouldn't have a problem then! Your brother would be the one to ask hands down! He'd have more answers for you, as he is someone you could trust for answers and more information.
Good point! Except both of them are underage and i am close to 21. I am qualified for much more mature roles than them. And I know Eddie Soto
Carlie Cooper then you could advocate for them both in areas where they couldn't and things, terms and such they wouldn't understand
why would I want to be an extra? I WANNA BE A STAR!
What about being an extra with a band you're in? Kinda like how Reel Big Fish did in Baseketball. I'm guessing it all depends on what type of movie it would be then?
-Rob
Thank you! I have been acting since I could talk... thank you so much it helped!! :)
You live in Michigan? I live there too! Are there a lot of movie extra jobs? I would love to start doing stuff like that. :)

i didnt watch this video to learn how to be a movie extra...
I have no interest in being an actor. I just clicked on this video because he's cute.
cool.
Sweet! :D
I'm 12, can I still look into this?
It depends on the working laws in your state.
how old r u
anyone know of places where i can find extra work in nj or ny with out having to go through a agency?
I look hot and tall like a model can I still be a movie extra? What if they think I am too hot/sexy and might take attention from the main character?
wow.. modest too
I REALLY hope that was a joke
Susan Sumari, if you got some acting experience you can probably get a minor, very minor role in the movie (like playing a dumb broad or an airhead) but if you don't than you're screwed 'cause that is all they will have for you. An extra.
Just don't ask questions. I like you the way you are.
***** I know right...
Yay thanks I really wanna make it even though I'm not gunna be a lead I LUV acting me and my friends were acting for 3 years we were in drama too it was fun I hope I make it I really wanna ill keep beilieving
That was mean. You don't have to be so mean to Veronica. #DontBeABully
I want to be the extra that gets to kiss Josh Brolin.
haha. Extras don't kiss anybody. They're the background players walking around.

Feminist and Fangirl 7 No. Now that you've applied, a representative will be in contact with you shortly. Good luck!
you don't have to pay to be in extra do you?
Hi Jamelia, I don't know if they have answered your question yet. But to be an actress or actor means that you have to audition for being a part of onesourcetalent.com... They pay you to be an extra. I am actually a client at one source talent. I have been on it for about 3 months now and its been pretty good. If you don't have experience they give you acting classes too!
Thank you for telling me that.
Hi Jamelia :)
To answer your question. No you don't. You do have to audition most times. To be an extra, sometimes there's no need for any serious audition unless you're going for a major role. And for that, you'd also need to follow some guidelines they'd ask you for. Like a picture (per their requirements), and any experience (if any, per their requirements). If you're just going for an extra, you will build your portfolio/resume on that. Then add on, with any other roles/extra parts you acquire along the way! And as you move along in this area of a potential career, you will most likely get called for a definite role one day! :) As far as casting calls, you just keep looking for those, and attend them. That is, if it's something that you're interested in, or they are looking for! Some casting calls ask for certain things. Like, hair color, eye color, height, cultural aspects, etc. etc.. Hope that helps.
P.S. As for the "onesourcetalent" spoken of in this video, I am not sure all they require or how they do things. I'd say do some research and look into them. Then use your judgement there. But make sure to contact them, get names, and ask all the questions you need/want to know. And ALWAYS take note of them all.
thank you for telling me that
