Thank you! I was looking at how to generate fur, and this guide just solved my question. For anyone in a rush, a lot of settings with the world lighting and stage is done at the begining of the video as it's setting up for a render, however if you're just interested on how it's done then the important information starts at 6:40. This works great with unreal engine btw! I was looking for this information to add fur to gear, like capes, coats, hides, etc. it works 10/10!
Thank you so much for the kind words! Very happy it works with unreal engine! Would you mind me asking what your workflow is to get it form Blender to UE? Just curious :)
@@NinoDefoq basically you just have to export the hair as alembic from blender, and in unreal works binding the "groom" element to a skeletal mesh, here's a great video showing how it's done. ua-cam.com/video/mj6P1shl28c/v-deo.html It's just magic + - + It's not meant for gaming but I suppose just a little fur here and there is fine from a performance point of view :> I'm thinking on making just some hairstyles which metahumans already have, and some fur details with little hair for gear. Hopefully nanites will work with skeletal meshes soon, then we'll be able to go crazy with it.
@@redxivmods That's amazing! Thanks for taking the time to explain it. Love to see it being used for multiple purposes. If you gave some UE results at some point I'd love to see it!
amazing video, ive only started using the the hair particle system and you have really taught me the ropes of using it. Subbed and liked, hope you keep making more videos. Cheers
Very nice and detailed tutorial, not too slow and not too fast explained. Please more tutorials about Blender, maybe something about Sub D moddeling. Keep it up
Yooo I spend a lot of time making realistic animals in blender. I'm STILL struggling to make REALISTIC fur. Any chance you can do a more advanced tutorial for realistic fur? Thank you
By any chance would you be so kind as to upload the .blend file? I'm getting different results when trying the same settings and am trying to figure out why.
Hi! when ı click add/shader on shader editor, there is no option to add "Principled Hair BSDF" there is only Principled BSDF, glass, emission, diffuse so on. Do you know how to solve this problem? Also what should I do to adjust the color of the hair on it, not the object itself? Since I click on the object and create the hair, they are connected with the object.
Hi there Dila, can you make sure that you're working in Cycles render engine? You can double check that in the Render Properties. Principled Hair BSDF won't appear for Eevee. If you want to separate your hair material from the object, you can simply add a second material on the object. Then, under the render settings in the hair particle system you can set the material to the second one you added :) Let me know if that helps!
@@NinoDefoq Principled Hair BSDF. i'm pretty sure, my project turned black so i had to use particle effects instead cuz of short end time for a assignment.
This has been popping off! Thank you so much for all the support. Would you like to see more fur & hair tutorials?
I've just followed this and think you are an excellent tutor. Yes Please!
@@philthepanic Thank you so much! That means a lot! 😇
Yesss more animal hairstyles!!🎉❤
This is one of the best particle hair system tutorials I've watched. Been interested in sculpting animals lately, so this is gonna help. :)

I don't seem to have this Principled Hair BSDF, is that an addon or something?
Change your render engine from Eevee to Cycles and it wil magically appear 😇

16:42 in my case, color didn't change a bit whether i changed my melanin concentration values or not... why is that
Are you sure you selected the hair material in the particle settings?
This one is the best :)
Thanks!!
Does this need a powerful PC?
mine can't keep up.
is this just for cycles or does it work on eevee also

when adding the hair principled BSDF my object turns black. what do i have to do to fix this? is a weight texture ruining it?
Are you talking about adding the Principled BSDF or Principled Hair BSDF?
@@NinoDefoq Principled Hair BSDF. i'm pretty sure, my project turned black so i had to use particle effects instead cuz of short end time for a assignment.
this happened to me too, i still dont understand it
That green navigation thing is kinda distracting, making it small or using gray color could help, other than that absolutely great tutorial mate :)
Thanks! Noted, Thanks for letting me know 😇
What about wool, feathers, scales, leather and skin?
I've got a tutorial on feathers if you're looking for it. The rest, not yet.
@@NinoDefoqdefinitely would love if you could do those as well. :)
please tell me why there is no wool in places?
What do you mean exactly?
CAN ANYONE HELP PLEASE. MY "WEIGHT PAINT" ISN'T WORKING #NewToBlender
Hair Bsdf wont show up for me, how do i fix this issue??
Switch the render engine from eevee to cycles should to the trick 😁
