I can’t believe it the lessons are getting better every day !!!!!!! The system is in place to succeed!!!! God Bless y’all ( everybody on the Judy farm) Ben and Isaac 👍
Dad wants the same set up! Just spoke to him this morning about this.he has the same Kawasaki 3010Mule as you do and the background looks exactly like here in Missouri!
This video was great, but I would have liked to see you putting it in place and doing the plumbing too! Thank you. Hope you show how to connect it to the pond.
Or maybe a whiteboard drawing explanation of everything prior to this point (the tire tank install) as far as the water system, pond size/angle, clay, lines running out, making leakproof, trenching and installing lines etc. Im fascinated by all this as ill have to do it on my own...
I thought you said that you always fill the entire bottom with concrete, otherwise it won't completely drain and water will lay in the sidewall. Still trying to figure out what seals it so it doesn't leak. Just trying to plan this all out so I can install some. Thanks for the video, can't wait to see the rest of the install.
Tire doesn’t Melt. All other Installs on Tire/Wells, I’ve watched, have the cement Just Cover the inside Tire bottom. However, Greg’s been doing this, in Central Missouri for Decades.
Pepper 1099 - Not for long, if at all. Tires are very inert. Stable chemically. 1 Exception - ChInese Rubber Compounds have questionable chemical makeups. They’ll Often, Stink to high heaven for months on end.
@Leroy Jenkins humm, okay yep, I can see your point. I don't have cattle, but I was looking at this as a possible project for an under ground water or fish pond in the garden area. IDK for 2-3 koi. Thank you for your comment.
I wish there was video of the new pond build and water line install. Later using a trencher? to run the line out to the tire and how that comes up into the tire. I guess you have other lines running to other possible tiretank sites also? As always, thanks for the invaluable education. Water install is the #1 infrastructure that is hard to record the whole process, kinda leaving me in mental limbo on how best to accomplish this foremost important task best ✌️
A video to go with the book! makes it that more understandable! we don't really have these type tanks around here.. Would tractor tyres work aswell, or do you need the height?
For my sheep the thinner tire would work. this deep water tank would not work well for small sheep. The cattle are much taller. I get the cattle would try to get in the tank without an electric wire above it.
I personally like the lower profile tanks for both sheep and baby calves. Actually hired an outfit to slice an existing installed tire tank in half for those reasons. Also if sheep or calves get in the tank, there is no way for them to drown.
How did you decide the level of the tank with respect to the pond depth?? I assume the pond level will vary greatly throughout the year, so is the tank going to have a ball valve type water level control set up?
We use tires from mining equipment & cut them in half & bury them in the ground w/ 12" to 16 " exposed . Never have to bank them & small calves can drink as calving is in May/ June . Use a round bale feeder to keep cattle out of tanks . It takes 2 bags of bentonite & 14 bags concrete . Fill it up w/ 6" water over the center . There is a 3" overflow w/ pee valve . I also have a smaller tank w/ a heat chimney & drink holes w/ a top & have No problem w/ winter watering
How did you level the tank? Did you put your level using the bead in the bottom of the tank, or top of the tank or did you put some water in the tank to see how level it was?
What I found worked best was making a level pad with some crusher run gravel and then just setting the tire. Not really worried about it being perfectly level.
@@mattmartin3886 i just set 3 tanks. Excavated out the pads. Added crushed limestone road base rock and made a level pads. Set the the tires on the pads
@@gregjudyregenerativerancher hi Greg, really appreciate the prompt reply I know you're a busy man thanks for the info. Returned home to Ireland after 20 years in California and have started farming again and looking forward to implementing some of your excellent methods on the farm next spring. Thanks again and keep up the good work, looking forward to more videos.👍
I have a couple of self loading motor scrapers that use tires about that size, those things new are a good $2500 on the cheap side, they basically paid you to take it, lol. That'll make a fine tank!
They were blems, they had a mfg. defect that made them too dangerous to use for commercial construction. Contractor probably got the replaced for free and sold them for cheap to make some extra cash.
Nice to see an example of you instructing the guys. Your patience and gentle words make you a wonderful guy to work with. Those young men clearly appreciate your humor, too!
It’s vulcanized rubber for goodness’s sakes. I’ve sent numerous water samples out to be tested. Nothing but healthy pond water. Folks get all freaked out about rubber tires, completely ridiculous.
Not trying to be a smart arse or any-thin of the sort, But unless you have more money than you need i'm thinning it may be a little on the dumb side to use a new tractor tire when there are so many used ones around! lol

Great video
Thanks for not promoting boring face time
Thanks for having the dogs in the video, that made me smile. I lost both of my dogs in the last year,
Once a farmer always a farmer👍👍👍
Thank you for all the lessons!
Ben and Isaac do good work!
GREG - I can’t believe this works, it’s quite amazing.
I love the regular work talk in the video! You guys sound like you have a allot of fun together

next time a little dryer will work easier... its all good in the long run. these tanks look great. I might make some for our operation.

I’m a little confused as to what seals it as well, the only way I can think is concrete heats up when it dries melting the rubber a bit
Tire doesn’t Melt. All other Installs on Tire/Wells, I’ve watched, have the cement Just Cover the inside Tire bottom. However, Greg’s been doing this, in Central Missouri for Decades.
The concrete will adhere/stick to the tire once that concrete is cured that tire will be unmovible and well sealed.
I think w/the water already there in the tire just pour the dry mix in and mix would work find! Have you ever done a dry pour pad it works great!
I Use a heat gun to unglue pvc. 8 reuse fittings! Great tank!
Hey Mr. Judy, could we get a video on the spreader mounted on the 4-wheeler, and what you use it for? I’m assuming overseeding pastures?
You guys are doing just fine.
Could of used your concrete expertise George!!
@@gregjudyregenerativerancher I would love to come down and help you pour some concrete. Off season is coming soon.
Any chemical leaching from tire into water or from concrete into water over time?
I have a question: Is there any possibility of the water being contaminated by the "rubber" or other ingredients that make the tire?

You could have sprinkled some of your stone in there to fine tune the height.

What muck boots do y’all wear
Thanks for the great video!! Will one of those work for sheep?
2.5 feet is too tall for lambs
Great stuff! How heavy are those tires? Any chance of a guy loading one in the pickup by hand? Got one waiting for me in town
Excellent video. Do have a guard on the flex drain pipe? Thanks in advance.
In Brasil we do but with used tyre a new tyre like this one costs a fortune around here. All the best Greg
They where defective tires.
Ok I got it lol
I was thinking the very same thing
10 bucks for that tire. Wish I had bought all 200 of them!!
@@gregjudyregenerativerancher to dispose is probably $50.00. I'm in the tire business
The concrete man's mantra "if we have a little too much, that's OK, we just want enough. Oops I stopped you too soon, a little more, ohh that's good"
Is that leafy spurge by the drain pipe?
So maybe the concrete expands enough to seal the joint or doesn't it matter if it leaks a little?
I almost cried... $10 for a defective tire and there were 200 of them? Yup that's an incredible deal considering how much they cost !!
It is very nice to see the kangal dog of my own country. Kangal was born in the Turkish city of Sivas and spread all over the country and the world.

He did a video cleaning out an older one, and it had a jobe megaflow valve on it

If you have a tire center near you that deals in construction or skidder tires they will give them to you for free.
Just wondering bow you like your Kawasaki mule? Was thinking of getting 1,thanks. Love the content
Pretty decent machine, has it 12 years and have only changed the oil. No mechanical problems at all.

10 dollar scrap new defect tire
How much was that tire ?
$10
I am assuming you got the tire for free. What was wrong with it? It looks brand new?

I missed the "Greg Judy Green Pastures Farm" intro!
Oh BTW its great vid! lol
You're not concerned about the tire leaching chemicals into the drinking water? That's why I don't use them
I would've thought these may dry rot and crack over time like a truck tire after what 8 years or so here. No problem w/ that huh?
I’ve had 4 of them in for 25 years, still look brand new
Try not to put so much water in the mix, you will have much stronger cement.
Can the sheep use this tank?
Holly Thompson yea with straws but not one use straws organic recyclable straws
Nice to see an example of you instructing the guys. Your patience and gentle words make you a wonderful guy to work with. Those young men clearly appreciate your humor, too!
Lambs definitely couldn't
Joe depends how long the straws are to be honest, I haven't seen Gregs setup
I'm setting mine up at 13” high with some cinder blocks inside for lambs to get out.
Tires have known toxic chemical in them, so lets use them to store water in them. Yeh thats a good idea...😮

Next time have some clean rocks available to fill up that last bit, just make sure that they are pushed to the middle.

Dry concrete is definitely easier and works just as well. Just tamp it a little.
Am I the only one who isn't a fan of tires because of the chemicals that will leach into the water?
Hope thats a used tire (new has to ~$2,000).
It was actually $4000 brand new. I got it for $10 at a recycling center. They were going to grind it up for high school track surface!
