HI, Tom. I picked up a DX384 last month at a local Hamfest, including a DSP40 signal processor, for $60 CDN. Pretty good deal. I just opened it up and the purple wire was already cut. When tuning around I noticed that it has auto dual speed tuning. When the .1Khz tuning step is selected it switches to the 1Khz step when I turn the dial fast and switches back to .1 when I slow down. I couldn't find any reference to this in the manual. Nice hidden feature.

Paused and chuckled at the 00:54 mark. :o) As I'm sure you've either found out yourself or from the fellas below in the comments. This is a fantastic piece when it's all modded out. That's a shame that those things weren't done from the factory. But the different filters etc.etc. would have added cost, but IMO it would have been better just to do it correctly from the beginning. I have a manila envelope with all the mods I did and new features done to mine. I have 2 small SPDT switches installed between the headphone jack and the badge above. Fine receiver.

Have you done the knob mod? That's a great one. And the getting it below 150kHz trick. Despite its faults I quite like mine, it's a 'B' model.

For shortwave any long wire antenna with shield coax cable for lead in will work.
