New Knitting Podcast - One Stitch After Another - Episode 1 - Come See my North Easterly Blanket

- Hello and welcome to this , my very first knitting podcast as One Stitch After Another. Here I share some WIPs and recent yarn acquisitions.
I'm mindful in this current economic climate that not everyone has the luxury of having disposable income to spend on squishy yarn and with that being said, I aim to be knitting my way through my extensive stash and hope you will join me on my journey.
I have been knitting on my North Easterly for almost 2 years now, off and on and I am predominantly using yarn from Elderflower Stitches 2021 yarn advent. The yarn from @ElderflowerStitches is so unbelievably soft and comes in such gorgeous colours.

Your North Easterly blanket is the prettiest I've seen. PLEASE DO talk about what you buy... I so enjoyed your video! Thank you for sharing.
Wow, thanks so much for your very kind words, sorry it has taken me so long to reply 🤗
Also a woman of a certain age 😉. My understanding is that those marks in the purple sweater would steam out. The blanket is amazing 😊✌🏻💕🧶
Thank you so much for your comment. A steamer is on my list of gadgets to purchase as I’m a sworn linen garment lover! 🤗🙏😊🤓
Hi so lovely to meet you x love your podcast 😊
Thanks so much, I really appreciate you taking the time to comment 🤗😊🤓🙏
Lovely podcast greetings from edinburgh
Thank you very much! I would love to visit Edinburgh, I understand there is a beautiful yarn store in the city? 🤗🤓😊🙏
Really enjoyed this thanks x
Aww, thanks, really appreciate you stopping by, Ann 🤗🙏😊🤓
Lovely to meet you and to see your ongoing projects. I’ve been knitting since I was 5 and I’m just about to hit 70. I live just outside of Maidstone in Kent. I’ve still got all my old numbered needles and crochet hooks as well as millimetre versions and patterns going back into my early teens costing 8d! My first knit was a cardigan from June & Schoolfriend’s Christmas annual - (used to get “Jackie” teenage magazine too!) I think I was about 8 or 9. Just found some fancy mohair (Avocet Caspia - discontinued ) in my stash that cost 95p per 50g. I like knitting & crocheting garments & blankets so very happy to see your northeasterly blanket. Looking forward to your further episodes. Linda xx
Wow! Knitting a cardigan so young, well done to you 🤗 I think at that age it was definitely just scarves for me 🤣🤣🤣 I really appreciate you taking the time to comment 🤗😊🤓🙏
I have an extensive stash also. I have sworn off buying single skeins of variegated fingering. I have so many and will never make socks out of all of them.
I know what you mean, but sometimes they are just so pretty 😱 Thanks for stopping by 🤗🙏😊🤓
I have just found your video, and I am simply enchanted by your content. I'm in New York (USA) keep it up! Hugs
Thank you so much! I’ve visited New York twice, once in 2008 and more recently in 2020, just before the world went into major lockdown. On my first visit I planned a pilgrimage to yarn stores, including Purl Soho which I simply loved! 🤗😊🙏🤓
Hello from Kansas, middle of USA! You just popped up in my feed today and the background pic of your blanket really pulled me in! I love working on small things also.... tiny embroidery or applique, and really fine knitting yarn.... i am besotted with shetland or russian lace! Looking forward to future podcasts!
Wow! Wizard of Oz territory 😊 I’ve never done Russian lace, but I do enjoy simple lace patterns. I used to do really fine cross stitch and needlepoint but my eye sight isn’t what it used to be 🤣 You are very welcome here, thank you for watching 🤗😊🙏🤓
Oh I love your northeasterly blanket, it’s the biggest one I’ve ever seen! It’s beautiful. I’m here for your tangents - it was really interesting hearing about your job for the knitting designer, those sorts of stories and recollections are fascinating. Look forward to episode 2! Happy crafting
That’s real,y kind, thank you so much 🤗😊🙏🤓
Hello from Hampshire! I was so interested to hear you mention the Patricia Roberts knitting book. I have a copy from the 80's and made a couple of the sweaters then which I was very happy with. I had a total disaster with a cardigan, gauge issues I think, I didn't really know about swatching at that point in my knitting. UA-cam knitting podcasts have gone a long way to improving my knitting knowledge. Funnily enough I kept the cardigan all these years and frogged it earlier this year. I am going to try and tackle it again...
I really enjoyed your podcast, and look forward to the next one 😊
Thank you so much for your lovely comments! I rarely swatch which has led to a couple of disasters in the past 🤣🤣🤣 I think a lot of Patricia’s patterns are timeless. I knitted one years ago from scraps which I wore until about 2000 then I gave it to a charity shop, I wish I still had that particular sweater. Perhaps it will go onto my ever increasing “to do” list. I hope to see you here again soon 🤗😊🤓🙏
Enjoyed your podcast! Joanne (from Iowa)
Wow, another viewer from the States 🤗 So many people from all over the world have dropped in 🤗🤓😊🙏
Really enjoyed your 1st podcast. Insomnia due to tamoxifen (BC 2020), so listen to podcasts in the night. Been knitting since age 6/7. Crochet too. Local knitting group has been my sustenance over a difficult few years. Look forward to your next edition. X 🧶 SW UK.
Oh, bless you, I’ve been there, on the old Tamoxifen. I had to stop taking it when I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer. I hope all is well with you now and thanks so much for stopping by 🤗🙏😊🤓
Hello hope you are well on my old channel a few years I was subscribed to your other channel and love it glad I've found you again take care x
Oh wow! I’m so glad you found me again too 🤗 Thanks so much 🤗😊🤓🙏
Lovely to meet you Ashley. I enjoyed the natter. I'm 67 and was taught to knit as a child by my mum. I used to knit a lot but some 30 years ago stopped for some reason, but have recently taken it up again. I'd never heard of circular needles or blocking. I don't block, I just use a damp cloth and warm iron. Thanks to UA-cam I'm learning a lot of new things and different techniques. I enjoy colour work but am not very skilled yet. Hope to see you soon. Oh, I'm in southwest London/Surrey.
Thank you so much for stopping by and commenting 🤗 I really appreciate it 🤗🙏🤓😊
You have very nice podcast. I love your drawer wallpaper.
Thank you very much 🤗 My wallpaper is quite new 🤗🙏😊🤓
Hello From Maryland, USA
Hello 👋🤗 Thanks so much for stopping by, I hope to see you again 🤗🤓😊🙏
Great first podcast. Subscribed immediately! Love your little critters with the wonky ears. Is there a pattern? Would love to make a few. Could use up my many scraps. Look forward to more videos. Will check out your other channel as I’m into mixed media, journaling, etc Slow stitching is my latest new journey! All the best to you.
@@kathrynborbacs3380 thanks so much! There is a pattern for the little critters, I think they are called bunny nuggets and I got the pattern on Ravelry 😊 I don’t know where you are based, but there is a UK yarn dyer called Sherry Iris who has a UA-cam channel, she is also into slow stitching. Check her out! Thanks so much for subscribing 🤗😊🙏🤓
Thank you so much for the pattern referrals-I’ve downloaded them all! I’m also following & subscribed to Sherry Iris. All the best from the state of Pennsylvania USA. ❤
@@kathrynborbacs3380 you are most welcome, Kathryn 🤗😊🤓🙏
Lovely podcast from a Uk knitter and all you say is like listening to my own experience since childhood. My crafty start was with my Nan who would have been 124 today 1st Oct.
Thank you so much 🤗 My Grandma’s birthday was 2nd October and she would have been 109. Much missed but fondly remembered 😊
@@OneStitchAfterAnother-kx1qy looks like we have a lot in common. Will take a look at your paper craft podcast.
@@bevabberley1524 thank you 🤗
Nice to hear from someone in the West Midlands -I come from West Bromwich myself on the other side of Birmingham. Your yarn journey is so like mine. My first memory is getting proper sheepy wool on holiday in St Andrews and knitting a hat on size 8 needles (4mm) in the caravan. I was probably 9 years old. I would sit with Kuldeep from next door and knit. I'm stuck in bed with the lurgy at the moment and you have cheered me up. Thanks 😅
Oh no, I hope you feel better soon 🤗 I know West Brom well, my first teaching job was in Wednesbury and before I had a car I had to change buses there! I didn’t knit anything as complicated as a hat when I was 9 so well done to you 👋👋👋🤗🙏😊🤓 I hope to see you back
I love your podcast… especially your “tangents and remembrances” ❤❤❤
My experience with silk is that it gets much better after washing.
Your tangents are fab. Keep it up!
Aww, thank you so much 🤗🙏😊🤓
Fantastic first episode Ashley, well done! I actually knitted the cooked breakfast from Jackie magazine about 15 years ago when the pattern was online. I have bought the gnome pattern and some others from that designer, can't wait to start! Wish I had attended the virtual mill event, it looked great. Fab purchases! X
It’s great to see you here, Sophia 🤗 Keep an eye open for next year’s event! I’d love to go in person too 🤗🤓😊🙏
@@OneStitchAfterAnother-kx1qy looking forward to your next episodes, great stuff! Think I was on holiday for this year's virtual event, will keep an eye out for next year!
You just popped up on my suggestions and I'm so glad! Those John Arbon Vegetable Patch colours are gorgeous. Do you have enough to knit the Gallus Scarf by Amy Palko I wonder? I think it would look great. Just off to make a cup of coffee and watch your next episode!
I’ve just subscribed to Amy and have seen her scarf, it might be a good shout! Thanks so much for stopping by 🤗🙏😊🤓
Finally a podcaster who lives very close to me! I knew you were local from your accent, how wonderful, welcome! I personally crochet but enjoy any chatter about yarn and I did knit as a child am yearning to learn again, knitting my own garment is my dream.
It’s never to late to start your own knitted garment! I think some of the patterns by Petit Knits might be suitable for a novice knitter.
How exciting that you live close by. I belong to a local knit and natter group and welcome anyone who crafts with yarn or thread. A couple of us want to learn crochet 🤗
Lovely podcast Ashley. Really enjoyed learning about all the yarns you had. I learnt to knit when I was 7 as my mum was always knitting and I thought it was great fun. Haven't knitted now for about 10 years as it hurts my arms and hands but I have recently taken to crocheting again so maybe one day I'll have a go with the needles.
Great to see you hear, Christine 🤗 I have heard from people whose hands and arms hurt that knitting on a circular needle can help as the weight is on the cable. Perhaps give it a try? 🤗😊🤓🙏
That was a fun episode, love the new yarn and the sweet gnomes
Thank you very much 🤗
Loved your podcast Ashley you have some beautiful projects on the go and scrummy yarn in your stash , I live in East Sussex xx new sub here xx
Thanks so much for stopping by from East Sussex and subscribing too🙏🤓😊
Thank you for sharing your wips and acquisitions ❤ That beautiful pink yarn looks amazing on you! Definitely make something special for yourself! Breast cancer? You are a WARRIOR! Embrace that! Loved the podcast 😊
Thanks so much, Sherry 🤗 Much appreciated 🤗🤓😊🙏
Love your podcast, so interesting and enjoyable, well done x
Thanks so much, Mary 🤗😊🤓🙏
4mm is an old 8 - I still have shedloads of old needles..... I used to read Jackie too.
I still knit a lot of jumper in pieces - this new fangled circular knitting is scary
I do know what you mean, but it is also nice not having to sew a sweater up 🤣
@@OneStitchAfterAnother-kx1qy - so true - before my hands started to play up, it used to take a week or so to knit a jumper - and a year or so to sew it up

Congratulations on your podcast. Paula from Australia r
Thank you very much, Paula 🤗🤓😊🙏
Hi Ashley, I loved your podcast❤️ I am 64 and remember Patricia Roberts, I had 2 books of hers and loved the patterns. Brought back memories of that era.

I’m not going to lie, I’m just a little bit jealous of you living in Devon 🤣 I’ve still got all my P R knitting books and plan to knit some patterns again.
I really appreciate your kind words, thank you 🤗🤓😊🙏
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment, Ruth 🤗 The pattern in the thumbnail is a close up of my Northeasterly blanket which is a pattern on Ravelry. I love knitting it

You are a joy to listen to. Wish I could go to your knit group at the pub, but I think a trip from Connecticut might be a tad too far.
Looking forward to more of your yarny goodness. So nice to bump into you Ashley!
Many blessings!

Yay! Thanks so much Kimmie 🤗 yes, Connecticut might be just a little too far away 🤣🤣🤣

Posted by Christine Adams. Hi Ashley just watched your podcast and must say how much I enjoyed it. I have recently come back to knitting after about 40 year's. I will be 70 at the end of the year. I'm currently knitting a cardigan for my husband . I'm taking a break from patchwork quilting. Looking forward to seeing your future podcast. Kind regards Chris.
Wow, a quilter! I admire people who create with fabric, it’s not something I’m very good at 😱 Good luck with your cardigan 🤗🤓😊🙏
Hi Ashley! I am also a lady of a certain age! I so enjoyed your knitting chatter and stories. Looking forward to your next episode. Best wishes from a Canadian knitting podcaster!

Wow! All the way from Australia 🤓 I was lucky enough to visit for my honeymoon, I hope to go back one day. Thanks for taking the time to comment, much appreciated 🤗
Great podcast! Your enthusiasm just emanates from the screen. For you delicious John Arbon marled yarns, you could do Andrea Mowry's shift cowl. It's lovely.
Ooh, that’s a cool shout! I’ve already got that pattern in my favourites on Ravelry 🤗 Thank you for stopping by 🤗🤓😊🙏

❓❓WHAT IS THE PATTERN ON THIS THUMBNAIL ❓❓. I’m 72, I taught myself to knit when I was 13 or 14. No one in my family knitted. After a year of rib knitting and stockinette I saw one of my school mates was knitting on the school bus. She helped me a little. I like to see your WIPs, stash and FO.
Hello, Ruth, it is the Northeasterly blanket which is on Ravelry 🤗
Hello, lovely see this podcast from the UK. Go over to Helen Ketteridge’s channel, she makes lovely knitted animals from your book. Thankyou. ❤
