The Obsession with Treasure Planet (and Atlantis)

- 20 years ago, Disney's Treasure Planet released to the theaters and was a major box office flop. Since then, the film has become a cult classic (along with Atlantis: The Lost Empire) and now some people want some live action remakes of them I guess.
I really wanted this one out last month but like a big belly alien pirate papa once said:
"Yee give up a few tings...chasing a dream..."

It's pretty sad that Atlantis and treasure planet went under because they're both pretty ambitious films but as you mentioned it's kinda pointless to remake them when all the magic with animation is gone
These 2 films are so amazing and where such magical films, hopefully they don't make live action versions that will butcher them
I grew up without a father. I'm well into adulthood and I've never had a father figure. I'm self-aware enough, and I've tried to teach myself to be a man and to guide myself through life, but it's been hard. Treasure Planet was, and still is, my favorite Disney movie. It was my personal version of the disney princess fantasy, and you're right, they had no business going that hard with the movie. But I'm glad and thankful, I can at least experience that bond through proxy.
One of the best aspects of Atlantis in my opinion was the design, a good amount of which was done by Mike Mignola who created hellboy, and I love that you can see the direct influence in the art style of the movie. If Atlantis was turned into a series with the attention and care of something like Andor it could really work.
One thing that struck me as a kid for Atlantis was how raw the actions scenes were. Disney went from only having one person dying being a focal point to Atlantis literally having over 3/4 of the initial sub crew getting killed by the Leviathan within the first half of the movie. It was brutal but so action packed at the same time.
Seeing Atlantis and Treasure Planet in theaters is such a joy. An imax screening of these two would be so amazing.
I fell for Treasure Planet, Titan AE, Atlantis and literally most of these immediately as a kid. I thought Treasure Planet was amazing
Hey now, Treasure Planet wasn't nearly racist, unfocused, or unsatisfying enough to be the Bioshock Infinite of Disney movies! :P
Ironically these are the only two films in Disneys catalog that make sense to make live action.
The amount of irreparable damage Helga Sinclair has singlehandedly done to my taste in women cannot be overstated.
Treasure Planet was workshopped by Musker and Clements over like 15 years, the script was
The peak of early 2000 cartoons by disney.
You know what's weird about Atlantis? First thing brought to my mind by Milo trying to get investors was another Nostalgic piece of my life; Stargate.
I have been OBSESSING over Jim’s Theme, literally it’s on my Spotify Wrapped. Fantastic movie
Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Treasure Planet, The Lion King, The Emperor’s New Groove and Brother Bear are easily my favorite Disney 2D animated movies.
Always loved these two and Iron Giant when I was younger, glad they now are getting the spotlight that they deserve
Silver's speech to Jim...he was watching the boy blame himself for Mr Arrow's death, knowing 100% that it wasn't his fault.
Literally watched Treasure Planet after watching this video Junko, and have to say you are spot on. I never saw it growing up because Disney did all it could to hide these movies, but they're both deserving of love
Grew up with Atlantis as a kid. Great movie. Always make sure you got your supplies like paper clips, big ones.
These are two of the best openings I can remember in Disney films as far as spectacle are concerned. The fall of Atlantis is absolutely gripping and watching the camera pan out to the spaceport are both jaw dropping in my opinion. On a different note, I remember discovering Atlantis right after I had binged Stargate SG-1 and noticing how similar a lot of the characters and plot beats were.
