honestly this is one of the toughest riffs I have ever attempted I would rate Reb Beach's playing way above anything Kirk hammet has recorded. his style is so much more complex and has a solid foundation sound to it that grabs a guitar player and makes him want to play due to the difficulty and all the little tiny mutes and switches. extremely difficult riff. awesome job teaching it to me Mike. 👍 thanks dude you rock.
@@therockstar7443 yeah uh Bro we needed that pat on the back and someone to sit behind a screen and challenge us to a dick measuring contest in a teaching forum. obviously your also watching this video to learn this riff but your most likely way better than any of us here.. so ok ill bite where is your video im challenging you post your solo of this song and we will have a little contest to see who is better
You are completely spot on about Reb. Amazing, highly underrated guitar player. I was at Pianos n' Stuff in Blawnox, PA one Saturday in the early '90s, and he walked through the door (he grew in Fox Chapel, not far away). Super down-to-earth guy, happy to show people standing around watching him how was doing certain licks. His tapping back then was an evolutionary step beyond the tapping before him.
Reb is the man...you said it bro. I been playing/studying for years and I still can't play as good as him. Neil Schon as well...why we love music and want to rock the instrument. Thank you for what you do as well. Been a fan for years.
Reb is probably the best guitarist I've ever seen live and I've seen Nile, Dying Fetus, hell RUSH lol, some incredible guitarists, but he stands out... truly amazing, his tapping on Headed For a Heartbreak was unbelievable in concert.
you hit the nail on the head mike. reb is very skilled. thanks mike ive learned enough from you to actually record my own cd thanks for all your lessons!
I've always loved Winger, man. You should remember that. Reb was the man! I hear they're coming out with a new album, but it's been like a year and a half since that announcement.
Oh, man! I just looked him up and he's the guy that plays guitar on Paula Abdul's "Straight Up" and "Cold Hearted"! Awesome! No joke, but just last month, I was looking for 80s songs to cover and Straight Up jumped toward the top due to the funky guitar parts! I didn't know it was Dan Huff until you mentioned the name and I looked him up. Thanks! Great session guitarist (those guys are the best!). Looks like he's playing on as current a song as Taylor Swift's "Red" too. Fantastic!
Wow i'm impressed! You're actually one of the very few people on youtube that actually plays this song correctly aside from reb beach himself haha. Even the guys at jamplaydotcom play this song wrong and they are supposed to be the professionals!? Good job man!
I very much agree, Mike. Similar things were said about Def Leppard being "glam rock" and I believe it was said about Bon Jovi as well. It's just insecure people that have to talk trash about someone else to feel better about themselves.
Reb is a guitar God, before Winger he worked with Fiona, Chaka Khan, The Bee Gees and Howard Jones. That in itself is a great resume'!! Just started playing again after a near 20 yr layoff, wife, kids job kinda took priority. Stumbled upon your videos and have to say Thank You!! I get inspired by your playing, you really explain all the little stuff that makes a big difference in ones style. What do you think of Steve Lukather?? Another under-rated bada_ _!! thanks again!!!!
I always like doing the intro on accoustic then go to the strat and kick it out and sing it play. Awwww the 80s kids today like all the riffs and power chords.lol
Reb is an amazing guitarist, and Kip is an extremely gifted and talented musician. Musicians that actually play music know this if they have ever tried to play their stuff. I never stopped liking Winger because of Metallica's video. I understand a little ribbing from one band to the next, but taking it as far as not listening to Winger because of a Metallica video, or a critics opinion...It makes me ask where people's ability to think for themselves went. If you ever had a chance to go to a Winger show and didn't... I feel sorry for you. You have definitely missed out!!! If you ever get a chance to catch a Winger show with Reb and Kip, don't pass it up!!! I see them every chance I get, and I will continue to do so. They are amazing to see live!!!
that first Winger album was fantastic! Maybe do lessons on some of the lesser-known songs such as "state of emergency, time to surrender or hangin' on? All awesome songs!
I agree with you about Reb being waaay underrated. Have always thought that. The haters ruined that band in my opinion. Beavis and Butthead did that one skit on them and I think everyone caught onto it and thought Winger was uncool and killed their career!
Winger had some of the most talented people in music in their band. Reb is one of the best guitarists on the planet! Never understood any of the hate they got. I guess Beavis and Butt-head is largely responsible, and I absolutely love Mike Judge, although Winger never deserved the hate.
Absolutely. i'm not a huge Winger fan, but Seventeen showcases MASSIVE talent and mastery by all members of the bad. just incredible power from all and the composition is fantastic.
PS... IF you are able to do this .. I want it DONE IN UR TONE.. I LOVE UR TONE,, and I have a Rp155 and if u mess with them or have or would i would love to create it so i have something like ur sound, to make ur sound in in my Rp155 would be sweet.
You said it, Mike! It's too bad that a lot of fans of more "serious", "dark", and "artistic" heavy metal bands can't appreciate other genres. There are some great guitar players to be found (usually much better in fact than heavy metal "shredders") in the poppier glam bands of the day (not to mention players in country, blues, and even disco dance tunes). Heck, Steve Lukather's on Olivia Newton John's "Physical" and he tears up a great solo on that very fun song which doesn't get its dues.
Okay, most of these guys commenting on here aren't old enough to remember, but back in the day (80's) there was a large divide between glam rock and metal! It was a fact of life that we all understood very well. Needless to say, you wouldn't catch a guy blasting poison while cruising around on the weekend, well at least one that wasn't black and blue afterwards! Sure there were those bands that crossed both genres like Motley and maybe Skid Row, but I'm sorry to say that Winger was not one of those. Sure I thought Winger was a great band and listened to them quietly while no one was looking, and as a guitarist we all knew Reb was awesome. They made a choice just like Metallica or Slayer did, glam bands played for the ladies and metal bands played serious music for aspiring musicians and true lovers of the craft. I'm definitely not saying that Reb didn't lay down some extremely technical pieces over the years, I'm just framing how it really was back then. We were dumb kids, oh well!
Great job Mike, bro you are absolutely right about what you said concerning anyone putting down other musicians, Howard stern doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to music anyway, but when another musician dose it, it makes me lose a lot of respect for the musician talking the smack, I lost a big part of my respect for malmstien when he said Eddie Van Halen didn't know what he was doing when he played, EVH sure sold a lot of album's for someone that didn't know what he was doing, so I agree 100% with what you said bud, keep on rock in brother.
