@@xr6lad before you go bring so stupid to someone that you do not know, maybe you better get your head out of you derrière. I’m entitled to an opinion, and you can have enough respect for someone you don’t know.
That passing motorist that saw Polly Ann and her partner dead in their car was my grandfather. He, along with my grandmother and aunt were on their way to church when he noticed a car pulled off the side of the road. He was always one to help others, and thought maybe they were having car problems. When he walked up to the window, he noticed they had both been shot in the back. He went and notified the police. I still live in Texarkana, and people still talk about these killings to this day. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity while a student at Texarkana College in 2005 to talk to a gentleman that lived during the killings. He and my professor were discussing the topic while I was in the room doing some local research for a sociology project. I asked if I could sit in on their conversation, and they were kind enough to let me. I wish to this day that I would have had a tape recorder so I could listen back to what he recounted from the actual 1946 killings. A lot of what he said was not told in the movie in 1976. He said it was a very scary time for Texarkana, because at that time it was a small Mayberry like town where things of this nature did not happen. There are so many questions I still have, and it makes me sad that there are not many left from that time to ask these questions to.
For all we know it could have been a shop-owner--looking to make a little money! If we just defeated the Germans then who needs personal-defense-weapons, aye? People were losing business because of the relaxed post-war vibe. Maybe a friend did it to generate gun/hardware sales? BTW: I read you're comment, and that's pretty cool. Be cool, Josh.
Awe heck yeah! The boys in my neck of the woods! Born and raised in the area. We all knew this story. Yet, there’s so many buried and “forgotten” stories actually more scary than this. I lived through a couple. The Red River close by has many local horror stories. Down in Fulton Arkansas a teenage boy was pushed in front of a train, by his pissed off girlfriend, right at the entrance of the bridge that crosses the river. He pretty much exploded from the impact. It was considered by authorities to be an accident but all who seen it happen knew better and kept their mouths shut. Just whispers. It’s who you know in that town. Pieces of him were left behind and local kids would bring friends to show off the decaying flesh and pieces of bloody clothes. I was around 10 or so. Back in the 90s.
Love when you two get together, sure means it’s gonna be a good one, and you two never disappoint. Great job and such an alarming crime. Thanks guys, love and blessings, stay safe
Really cool to see you guys making another video together and visiting this particular town. The film that was inspired by the true events is very good, though of course did have liberties taken with it. I’ve never been through Texarkana before, but I do know people who have been through there and they’ve said just by passing through it was both nice, yet there’s also a bit of an off putting vibe to it. Great video Chris, keep up the great work!
So strange to come across this video. My parents were teenagers and lived in Texarkana during this time. As a child, my family visited Spring Lake Park for picnics and I heard of these crimes at that time.
I saw that movie the town that dreaded sundown when I was a little kid..I was hooked on crime stories from that point on..this is the case that started it all for me.
Thanks Chris & Lamont, a very bizarre set of murders, it is strange that once he was caught and sent to the jail that the attacks stopped although this doesn't mean he carried out the attacks it was very strange, who knows really, it could have been him but equally the killer could have just moved on to a different state. Thank you for sharing, much love. xx ❤
Finally someone did THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN.,.. always one of my favorite stories.,.. every time my family goes to Texas to visit our other family we always stop in Texarkana for the night & stay at the hotel there.... Thanks for covering this I always wondered where these spots were located
Texarkana is close to Fouke Arkansas which is known for the "Legend Of Boggy Creek" Bigfoot sightings, also a few key shots from "Smokey And The Bandit" were made there, if your still in the area you might check out the Boggy Creek area, lots of scary stories from there.
I've watched the movie The Town that Dreaded Sundown a few times and every time it creeps me out probably because it's based on a true story and they never caught the killer.
Thank u for this. The history u give us is brilliant. And as a uk girl we don’t really hear to much about old crimes in America. So I personally thank u
Crazy that there's people out there like this. We all need to stay vigilant and always carry something for protection whether it's a gun, knife, pepper spray, Taser or whatever. Stay safe out there everyone.
I grew up in a little town straight south of Texarkana (Marshall, TX) I remember going to the drive in when I was about 7-8 years old (and I am well into my 50’s now) and watching “The Town That Dreaded Sundown”. I still have creepy dreams about the killer using the trumpet ( with a knife attached to it) killing of a young woman.. shivers😵💫
@@ieatedabee6943 Just the basic real story though. I hadn't seen it until a few years ago. Some funny stuff in it too. Like the part when the deputy has to dress up like a woman and sit in the car with the other deputy like they were in the car necking. That was funny.
I was there when they made the movie. Me my kids and grandkids grew up going to Spring lake park. It's changed alot. We live South in the woods but it was fun to get to go to town as a friend. I'm a nurse and first responder. Lol The memories there.
Been mildly obsessed with this case for a long time now after I found out about it doing research into crimes like this in my home state. Even used the Youell Swinney name as a band name and now my screen name because I'm lazy. There's a documentary about this called Murder in the Moonlight that even used some of my music, which still blows my mind. And before anyone gets angry with me, I didn't use the name because I think murderers are cool. I just thought it was a bizarre name. It's great to see you guys covering stuff in my home state. You should look into the murder of Amanda Tusing, which happened just down the road from me and may have ties to one or two other murders. Keep up the great content!
You guys team up really well. I remember the movie The Town That Dreaded Sundown. But only you two could make it seem real. Appreciate as always, the time, research you guys put into these videos. Looking forward to more collaborations between the two of you.
I just wanna say that You and Lamont make a great duo in these sort of videos, always full of interesting content albeit about sad and tragic events but done so with the utmost respect to the victims.
The Hall-Mills murders in 1922 outside of New Brunswick NJ in Franklin Twnsp. was like this. The area where the bodies were found is all built up now. Not that desolate lovers lane of old. Cool unsolved case though
@@MobileInstinct Here are a couple of other cases you might want to investigate. I believe the crime scene locations all still exist. April 22, 1942 Pueblo, Colorado murder of Alice Porter by Donald Fearn Sept. 24, 1973 Casper, Wyoming kidnapping rape and murders of Becky Thomson and Amy Burridge
