- Xiaomi Triggers a Price War with Tesla with EV Launch | Vantage with Palki Sharma
Chinese phone maker Xiaomi recently launched their first electric car (EV). Within the first 24 hours upon its debut, Xiaomi's EV model was booked by over 88,000 customers. These cars cost $4000 less compared to Tesla, and that makes them more attractive to buyers. Xiaomi's market value shot by 16% today and surpassed the total valuation of companies including General Motors and Ford. However, Xiaomi is reportedly set to bear losses with every sale. According to one estimate, the company would lose $10,000 on every car they sold. Why is Xiaomi entering the EV sector then? Palki Sharma tells you.

I am not sure if Palki understood what she was reporting. If Xiaomi SU7 generated 88,000 orders during its debut on the first day, but Xiaomi is losing $10,000 for every SU7 sold because of China's state subsidies. However, the SU7 will only be sold within China. So, Xiaomi is selling its SU7 to its own Chinese consumers at a discount. So, how does that contribute to "anti-dumping"?

Let’s be honest most consumers know Chinese anything is cheaper. But nobody wants cheap cars like cheap Chinese electronics
No. Xiaomi is like a drug dealer giving kids free drugs. Once a market is established and competition eliminated what will happen to prices? Through the roof.

Xiaomi has a proven strategy of offering high-end specifications at a low price to establish themselves in the market, followed by leveraging the economics of scale to turn a profit. They are now applying the same strategy to their EVs, with a focus on gaining a strong foothold in the market. Given that Russians have been loyal Xiaomi customers for quite some time, it's no surprise that middle-income Russians are likely to be drawn to the Xiaomi sports EV. The car bears a striking resemblance to a Porsche, comes with an affordable price tag, and can be easily started up during Russia's harsh winters, unlike combustion engines. It's a no-brainer, really.
according to me, market should be free, buys don't see where product is manufactured they see quality and price. if china is providing good quality at lower price why is west so worried they are also free to to same thing. we buyer want good quality products that's it.
Proud to see Indian brand to compete with a word-wode top company
What's a disgraceful bashing. You've been feeding with misinformation and spitting nonsense...not the same level of playing field, coming for everyone, no longer who sells the best car...bla bla bla. Domestic and foreign car manufacturers get the same subsidy or benefit in China, and each country protects its interest. Chinese EV cars are on par with established brands and certainly way better than Indian brands. Are you denying Indian consumers to get more affordable cars? You call for governments to boycott or put high tariffs on Chinese cars. Don't you know that sanctioning or practicing protective tariffs works both ways and the consumers are the victims? The US and Europe better not ban the sales of Chinese cars or else they would kill their own industries by not having access to the Chinese market. Instead of bashing Xiaomi or BYD, why don't you encourage Tata Motors to roll up its sleeves and show Indian supremacy? Use your head!
Xiaomi is an incredibly capable company, with very loyal customers. I predict they will be a major manufacturer.
Unlikely if the world wakes up to the predatory strategy of the Chinese government which subsidizes these cars.
junk cheap products.
india can do the same thing, tata has 2.7 billion dollars cash and modi regime also has a tremendous amount of money
There is zero chance China would buy a single Indian vehicle. India makes Suzukis - how many are sold in China? Near zero.
@@michaelnurse9089 China is not the target, india can sell india-made EVs to the usa , europe , japan , korea, canada, australia and middle east.
@@michaelnurse9089 like Chinese cars don't do well in India. Likewise.
@@lukeecle117 none needs make in india crap

There is something fundamentally wrong with this bulletin..how can cheap vehicles be bad!! Others should lower their prices too..thats what competition is all about..
This strategy is common in Internet companies.
Those Internet companies lost money for several consecutive years at the beginning,
Then, when they have enough customers, they start making profits.
We end users are not complaining , we will buy the cheapest , America should worry less
excluding R&D expenses, Xiaomi may not make any profit, but in no way they arw losing money on every car sold. They will make profit in future for sure.
As a consumer that's not a bad thing.
When you said about lowering prices and killing competition, it reminded me of Jio and the price war!!!
China is *democratizing* ownership of high quality cars.
any bets they won't allow it in india .. just to protect tata motors ... remembering the 1970-1980s when we protected hindustan motors and bajaj scooter etc
Yes they just want Indian consumers to enjoy junk EVs for exorbitant price lol..
@@Indianinzhongguothey’re not even that expensive
@@IWasInBerlinDuringWW2 the kind of EV product an Indian consumers gets for their bucks is simply not worth the price tag..
@@Indianinzhongguo what??? Indian EVs are cheaper than Chinese ones. It’s the Chinese who are overpaying actually
@@IWasInBerlinDuringWW2 u are seeing the expensive ones and comparing to Indian Lowest priced EVs.. Chinese EVs 2 seater start from as low as 3 to 4 lakhs indian INR & 4 seater sedans start from 10 lakhs 😀 whereas Indian EVs start from atleast 15 lakhs! For Ex MG sales their EV in India for more than 25 lakhs INR whereas in China they are selling from 12 lakhs.. huge difference..
Toyota Prius won the car design award for 2024. Meanwhile, Xiaomi SU7 won the award for Best Copy of Porsche Taycan...
India should learn from china tech industry
The allegation of Xiaomi lost USD 10,000/car was based on Tesla price structure.
Unlike Tesla, Xiaomi does not have to build the factory from scratch but used the available - huge facility of State owned company.
Xiaomi is a world leader in producing a very good reliable handphone at much lower price of Iphone and Samsung
Right now, the overall condition in India is such that the majority of people cannot afford to look at whether the company is Chinese or not. They just need a cheap commodity. Be it a smartphone and whatnot, this is the case as money is super tight in India right now.
Imagine offering the phone at a discount if you also order the car! Literally can eat smartphone and car market!
She's trying to spin everything to a negative on China. In 5 minutes of videos, she talked about
* Xiaomi is losing $10,000 on every car it sells
* Xiaomi and other EV makers over capacity is due to government subside and makes other government worry
* Xiaomi got so much order on the first day so there is a long waiting time to get the vehicle. What about over capacity, doesn't that mean more product produced than there are buyers? Why there are so many buyers waiting? Is it more of better product driving out less efficient competition?
Bottom line: Xiaomi debut an impressive car at incredible price, selling it at a lost is common practice to gain market share, the cost of EV parts will decrease in price over time and it will lower even further with production of scale. So who knows whether it will succeed like they did in the smartphone market, I think this is great news even though I am in US and won't be able to buy it. I am sure it will put pressure on Tesla to make their car better and cheaper.
You really think they are going to take a loss of 10,000 when the car costs 200,000. No way that is true!
Most of the vehicle costs are research and development expenses, which are one-time expenses. The more cars you sell, the less R&D expenses are spread out per car. So when there are not many cars sold, it is indeed possible that you are losing money on every car sold.
This is true. The Chinese government wishes to give these good things to everyone for free
This EV's definitely will bring down oil prices in the world matket to our temporary relief
They Lost Nine hundred Million USD but gaining more than 7.5 Billion Dollar. Stupid
you know, if the quantities increase, the average costs are down. It will make profits in three years if the demand increase.
not every one like her have money ,cheap and quality is good for us low income
Thanks to China 😊us lower income can afford things
Actually, the strategy is freaking genius!
they point is not the losing money part.
They want to destroy the western EV market.
It is called an introductory price like they did on their smart phone, right now they have a bigger chunk of the market share, and now their smart phones are worth comparable price to other brands especially for their mid range phone
6 months waiting period is nothing. Toyota and kia have 6 months waiting period too.
TOYOTA HAS A 6 MONTHS WAITING TO REPAIR SERVICES PERIOD.
Free market trade right in globalization right?
US and India, the good example of what sour grapes is all about. 😂😂
Design looks like inspired from Porsche. It's so beautiful.
It's better, 1/3 of the price.

That's their strategy. Develop technology in silence and be ready to flood the market.
This is good news for consumers -- I don't care whichever car (Japan, Germany, China, America) if it offers the best price/performance ratio.
