      Great video! What laser do you use to make these?

      We made these on a Trotec Speedy 400, but these could be made on any laser, including small home hobby systems.

      @@smedleyworks Thanks for the info. I'm looking to get the xTool D1 Pro which is a 20W laser. It will be interesting to see what I can do what that.

      @@luvshak3095 From what we've seen, you shouldn't have any issues. This is the perfect project for it. Let us know what you create! :-)

      @@luvshak3095 I have the 10w xtool and it works great so the 20w definitely will!

    We're experimenting with different acrylic paints to apply to the cut/engraved design. Which kind do you use? Also, have you found a good "depth" for the engraving that works best for you?
    We have a Gweike machine, very easy to use, using Lightburn on Mac to cut/engrave, designs created in Illustrator.

    What kind of wood is the Santa's workshop made on?

      We made those quite a while ago, but it was likely made out of 1/8" baltic birch.

    Love the video, but, honest question, with the amount of time it takes in post, how are these profitable?

    • @smedleyworks
      @smedleyworks  2 роки тому +2

      Yes, the way we finished them required a lot of extra work. This was just a DIY project and not something we sell. We don't know if these could be profitable, as this would really require a cost analysis. There might also be shortcuts to make it more profitable. You could offer engraved black acrylic or wood which could be left unpainted. You could also spray paint them, instead of hand painting, which would speed up the painting step.

      @@smedleyworks thanks much for your response! I’m relatively new to laser engraving and still learning a lot. So I thought that there could be a better/more efficient way! Spray paint is a good idea but likely would require some cleanup on the edges. I love your video on the jigs. I just purchased a Cheetah jig kit and so far pretty happy with it!

    Hey There, great video! im was curious what laser cutter did you use for this project? thx :D

    • @smedleyworks
      @smedleyworks  Рік тому +1

      We used one of our 120w Trotec lasers, but given the materials and thicknesses, you should be able to make these on really any laser. 🙂

      @@smedleyworks thank you I’m looking into getting a budget one to start with. And I’m pretty new to the laser cutting world. I’m looking for any tips or vids on how to tune the speed and laser :)

    Watched your video and purchase these designs..Noticed your are doing an engraving but the files I got are set up for lines...Having to change every design to be able to engrave.

      Sorry to hear that you're having trouble. We set the files up with a red line for the vector cut and black for the engraving. We believe this is industry standard and has worked for us in a number of laser brands and the corresponding software. Depending on the software you're using, it may not recognize those colors for those purposes and you would need to tweak your settings to perform the proper action.

      I am having the same problem. I purchased the design and made the modifications for engrave and cut. If I set it up to engrave with the provided artwork, it blacks out the design. I can only score which is not what was advertised when file was purchased.
